The Calamity Awakens

Her fathers words echoed in her mind as she hiked the freezing cold mountain. She looked to Link, who was giggling, probably remembering something funny.

Indeed he was! He was remembering the time he ate rocks for Daruk. It was gross, but funny.

"Link!" Zelda cried.

Link snapped out of his trance and saw the Lizalfos about to hurt Zelda. Not on his watch. He easily defeated the monster and they continued hiking up the mountain. Zelda shivered, wearing nothing but a strapless dress, sandals and her royal jacket, which she would remove while praying.

They climbed the steep trail of stairs leading to the spring. Link's boots sunk into the snow, forcing him to lift his leg up higher to walk.

Gosh, I really need snow boots, he thought.

He pulled his royal coat closed as it blew open by the chilly wind. The wind stung Link's eyes as he forced them to stay open.

Zelda tried her best not to stumble, her feet turning purple. She used the ice pillars for support as they got closer to the peak. Finally, they saw the Spring.

Link stood at the entrance, back to Zelda, holding her warm fluffy coat. Link listened to Zelda crying to the Goddesses for them to bless her with her sacred power. He shivered, it was too cold for him.

Zelda prayed and prayed, hands clasped together, the water above her knees. Her body was freezing, her skin turning purple. Her lips were purple-ly-blue. She shivered, crying and crying. Suddenly, she felt warm strong arms pull her out of the water.

"No! Link!" She cried, kicking and screaming.

Once she was safely out of the water, Link wrapped her up in a warm towel.

"I won't have you having Hypothermia, Princess," Link softly said.

At the sound of Link's gentle voice, Zelda felt herself being filled with warmth. He truely sounded like a song. A song she played again and again and she never got sick of it.

"Let's head back down, shall we?" Link asked.

Zelda decided to bite the bullet. She stood up and straight up kissed Link on the lips. He was clearly startled. After Zelda pulled away, he just looked at her, shocked.

"Oh, Link, I'm so sorry, I don't know what came over me!" Zelda said.

Before Zelda could do anything else, their lips connected again. Zelda felt Link's tongue on hers. She giggled as he licked a bit of her mouth.

They finally pulled away, their cheeks red. However, you could easily say that it was from the cold and not the fact that the Princess kissed her Personal Guard.

"Zelda, I have a birthday present for you!" Link said. "Close your eyes."

Zelda felt something being placed on her head. She opened her eyes and saw Link holding a mirror. She gasped as she saw the beautiful tiara that sat on her head.

"Daruk helped farm the gems and Urbosa had her jewellers make the actual tiara. So, in a way, it's from Daruk, Urbosa and I," Link said.

"It's beautiful. Thank you," Zelda said.

"Now, you can replace one of your lousy tiaras," Link said.

"Hey! I don't have a thousand tiaras like some Princesses!" Zelda said.

Link laughed, before beginning to walk down the mountain. The two walked down the mountain, hand-in-hand.

As they neared the end, Zelda began feeling worried. What would she tell the Champions? That she had failed?...again? She'd have to tell the truth. She squeezed Link's hand, and he squeezed back.

"Well? How'd it go up there on the mountain? Don't keep us in suspense!" Daruk asked.

Zelda let go of Link's hand, hoping no one noticed. She casted her gaze on her feet. "I'm sorry."

That was all she needed to say. Revali huffed in annoyance, Daruk's smile fell, Mipha looked like she could cry at any moment, but Urbosa...Urbosa looked okay, almost as if she expected this to happen.

"There's no point in feeling sorry for yourself, you tried your best and that's all that matters," Urbosa said.

"But Father-" Zelda started saying.

"-will understand, and if he doesn't, then he's being completely unreasonable," Urbosa said.

Zelda hoped he'd understand, but she doubted he would.

Mipha stepped forward, holding her trident close to her. "If I may, when I'm trying to activate my power, it helps to think about something I care about. For me, I think about...I think about-"

Mipha was cut off by a strong rumbling feeling. The earth shook violently. Zelda stumbled and if it weren't for Link, she would've landed face-first.

"An earthquake?!" Zelda cried, as Link held her close, protectively.

Revali flew up, before gasping. He saw lightning. Pink lightning. Zelda didn't need to be told what was happening.

"It's here," she said.

The Calamity had awoken from its ten-thousand year nap.

"Champions!" Daruk said, suddenly getting very serious. "To your Divine Beasts! Little guy, ima need you to head to Hyrule Castle. You can count on us for support, but it's gotta be you who smashes Ganon to pieces. C'mon Champions! This is what we've been training for! Let's show Ganon who's boss!"

"Little Bird, we must get you somewhere safe," Urbosa said, grabbing Zelda's hand.

"NO!" Zelda cried, wriggling out of Urbosa's grasp. "I may not be much use on the battlefield, but I'm not going to sit back and do nothing! I'm going with Link!"

"Definitely not, Princess!" Link said. "Hyrule Castle is the last place your going!"

"But my father is in there!" Zelda cried.

"No! My father will protect the King, your father will be protected by one of the best knights in Hyrule," Link said. "I'm gonna take you to Impa."

"NO!!! I'M NOT JUST GONNA SIT AROUND LIKE A PRINCESS! I'M COMING WITH YOU AND THAT'S FINAL!!!" Zelda screamed.

"Fine, but don't blame me if you get hurt," Link said, grabbing Zelda's hand.

The two ran off together, but they had no idea what Ganon had in store for them.
