Chapter 3 - That escalated quickly
POV: Cactus
I laid in my bed, starring at my sketchbook. That wing didn't look quite right.. I glanced at my own wing, trying to grasp how to draw it. 'DRAWING REALISTIC IS HARDDDD!' I thought angrily, putting my face in my claws. "Why is drawing so harrrrdd......" I groaned into my claws.
"CACTUS?" I heard my mom call. "YES?" I called back, pulling my face out of my claws. "I MADE COOKIES IF YOU WANT SOME!" Mom said. "COMING!" I replied, shuffling out of bed. I needed a break from art.
I opened my door, stumbling into the hallway. "Hey sis." I heard my brother say. "Fossil, just call me Cactus." I murmured, walking to the kitchen. I saw Mom sitting at our table eating some chocolate chip cookies.
I walked over to one of the chairs and sat down. "Hello Cactus!" Mom chirped, Handing me some cookies. "Thank you!" I said, grabbing one and taking a big bite out of it. I saw Fossil sit next to me. "You added caramel!" I said in between chews.
"Only the best for my children." Mom said proudly. Fossil ate one and smiled. He stole a bunch. "Leave some for me!" I giggled. "Every dragon for themselves." Fossil said mischievously. I snatched one of his cookies and quickly ate it.
"I'm glad you like them!" Mom said happily. I looked over and realized Fossil had already eaten all of his cookies. "How?!?" I asked, surprised. "C o n s u m e." He said simply.
Suddenly I heard an explosion, and I jumped out of the chair. I turned around to see Skywings jumping through the door. "RUN!" Mom screamed. I quickly obliged, jumping up.
I found a window and jumped through, glass stinging at my claws. I briefly saw Fossil do the same on another window, while Mom hissed and tried to fight the strangers off.
I flew without thinking, soaring above the town. I hissed at the pain in my scales. I turned around to see a bright orange Skywing following me. I quickly sped up, my heart racing.
We lived near the claws of the clouds mountains, but even as I flew they seemed miles away. I wanted to land there and hide, but with this Skywing on my tail it wasn't that easy.
I flew through the mountains, fear clawing at me. Suddenly I felt claws on my wings and looked up to see the Skywing. I screamed, but he had grabbed my neck and was about to snap it.
Suddenly I saw a dragon knock the Skywing off me, and quickly took care of him. She threw the body down. I starred at her, flapping my wings to stay in the air.
She turned to me and looked in my eyes. "That'll be you if you hurt any of my siblings." I gulped. "Who are you? Thanks for saving me." I said shyly.
"Earthmover, Nightwing Mudwing hybrid."
