Chapter 2 - The sun might not shine

POV: Sunshine

I walked around my little home, humming to myself. I always loved the rainforest, it was so calming and perfect. I turned around to see my sloth laying in a little patch of strawberries I had grown on my windowsill.

"Awwww, is Rosie sleeping?" I whispered, petting the sloth. I had given Rosie an actual rose before, but now it was stuck in her fur. I didn't bother taking it out, it was just to cute.

I pulled my claw away. I saw Rosie start to wake up. She looked at me with the cutest brown eyes. "Sunshine's gonna go explore, but you can't come. It might be dangerous." I whispered. Rosie pouted. "How about I leave you with Banana and Apple?" I whispered.

The sloth slowly turned its head, but I had already picked her up. Rosie clung onto me, and started to snore. 'Sloths are so cute.' I thought, walking to my door.

I pushed the door open and flew out. I scanned the village to find the house I knew so well, and once I did I landed right in front of it. The bananas sorta gave away who lived there.

"Hello?" I called. Someone opened the door. Her scales were red with patches of yellow and green, but when she saw me she turned a bright yellow. "Hello Sunshine!" She said. "Hi Apple! Can you and Banana take care of Rosie while I explore?" I asked.

"Sure!" Apple replied, a smile on her face. I lightly grabbed Rosie, and handed her to Apple. Apple grabbed her just as lightly and put Rosie on her neck. "See you soon!" Apple said happily. "See you!" I said back, turning around and flying away.

I flew for a while and found a dark area at the bottom of the rainforest. I liked exploring like this, it gave me a place to feel emotions other then happy. My usual bright blue and yellow scales turned a dark somber grey, highlighted by some light yellows.

Numb. That's what I felt in this moment. I walked around, not really aiming for anywhere in particular.

I heard a rustle in leaves nearby and turned to the sound. I was a little glad my dark scales camouflaged with the darkness right now, but some bright greens started to peak through. I was scared easily after all.

Suddenly a dragon came out of the place I was looking. They were a dark blue with some dark yellows peaking through. 'A NightWing.' I thought with panic. My scales turned a bright green, contrasting everything around me.

The nightwing pounced on me, pinning me to the ground. I started to scream but they quickly shut my mouth. "I'm sorry." The nightwing whispered. And in a moment, everything was gone.

I woke up in a strange place. It was a cave, and I had a weird rock that was imitating a bed. My wings were bound and I had chains over my mouth so I couldn't speak. 'Or spit acid.' I realized with a jolt.

I looked out to see a river of lava preventing my escape. I grunted in annoyance, some of my scales turning a soft red. 'Where am I?' I wondered, looking around.

I heard flapping of wings and turned to see a Nightwing flying in. Her scales were various shades of dark red. She had a mischievous smile but when she saw me it was replaced with a look of worry. "Are you okay?" The nightwing asked, looking over me with her lavender eyes.

I looked at her with me most annoyed expression I possibly could. "I'm stupid, you can't talk. Sorry about that." The nightwing said, going to sit next to me.

"Anyway, I'm Midnight. This place is torture compared to the Rainforest, so sorry if it sucks. You won't be eating often but when you do it'll be all rotten and disgusting. That's all we have. Also, never trust other nightwings. They're meanies and I hate them." Midnight explained, anger in her voice.

"The only nightwing I trust is Knowledgeseeker, my sister. But from what she told me, she was the one who got you, so I completely understand if you don't forgive her yet." Midnight said, slumping down a little.

'How long is she going to talk?' I wondered. 'Why am I even here?' I thought, looking at my claws. A blue washed over my scales as I worried about Rosie and my friends. 'Would they be okay?' I thought. I turned to see Midnight breathing heavily, as if she couldn't get enough air. She saw me and instantly worried.

"Is something wrong? Oh, you're probably worrying about everyone you know. I would say I'd worry like that too, but I don't have anyone to worry about. Sorry that you came to this wasteland of a place." Midnight comforted.

I buried my head in my claws. I didn't love forcing myself to be happy, but sadness wasn't a thing I liked either. I felt a wing over my back and looked up to see Midnight. She looked worried but had a determined smile.

"I promise you'll be alright."
