Chapter 1 - Prowling Night

Third person POV

A nightwing prowled along the NightWing island, looking for prey. She didn't care that it wasn't her turn, no one did. Growls of anger escaped from her mouth every time she didn't find anything.

The nightwing sighed, clawing at the ground in frustration.

POV: Midnight

I walked along the shore, keeping all my senses alert for any prey. I tried to keep my mind busy with what I was doing, but it kept circling back to one thing. Leaving.

I had been trapped on this disaster of and Island for my entire life. I was completely sure my lungs were coated in ash, and that I'd have permanent issues because of it. I hated this place. I couldn't breath, I couldn't think, and why in all of the three moons were the other nightwings so MEAN?

I hated other nightwings with a passion. They were my least favorite tribe, for a good reason too. They were so mean it hurt. The only nightwings I cared about were my family, and I didn't even trust my parents. I loved them, I just didn't trust them.

If I could do anything, I'd make the stupid volcano on this island erupt, giving me a chance to leave.

I was snapped out of my thoughts when I saw a bunny. It was thin and starved, but better then nothing. I pounced on the bunny, making it jump. But it was to late.

I chomped down on its neck, cleanly breaking it. The bunny was now dead. I jumped back up from the kill. I looked at the dead bunny, desperately wanting to eat it. But I had to save if for later.

I sighed, digging a hole in the ground. I hoped that no one would find it. I put the bunny in the hole and covered it up, making just as obvious as I needed to be.

I heard a voice from behind me. "Hey Midnight!" The called. I looked up to see the one dragon I could trust. My sister. "Hey Knowledgeseeker." I said happily, turning to my sister.

She was a considerably older then me, and looked stronger too. She had dark blue scales, while some dark yellows shown their way through. My sister was never around, but I always loved when she came. "Whatcha doing?" She asked.

"Hunting." I quickly replied. "But it isn't your turn." She pointed out. "I don't care, neither does anyone else." I shot back. We both giggled. Knowledgeseeker suddenly sighed. "What is it?" I asked.

"I feel bad for the Rainwings. We keep kidnapping them, and here it's practically torture." She said, subconsciously clawing at the ground. "I know, I hate it too. But one day I'll break free at least one, and return them to the rainforest." I said proudly. Knowledgeseeker just weakly smiled.

"Oh right, I came here to tell you something." She said, worry making its way into her voice. "What is it?" I asked, already assuming the worst. "I had to kidnap a Rainwing, and Morrowseer told me to let you take care of them." He said. I snarled.

"Not Morrowseer," I joked, trying to lighten the mood. "Midnight, just promise me that you don't get in trouble. You're the best sister, but I know how you like to spite other nightwings. I don't want you in the type of trouble that the worst dragons are in. I can't lose you." Knowledgeseeker said, tears forming in her eyes. "As long as you don't die either." I said.

"Pinkie promise?" Knowledgeseeker said, holding out her claw. "And bite the thumb." I replied, holding her claw in mine, as we proceed to lightly bite our other claws. We let go and laughed. "I'm still making that Rainwing escape." I said proudly. "Just don't get caught." Knowledgeseeker said, giving a claws up.

"Alright. I gotta meet this Rainwing. See ya, and keep your end of the promise." I said, starting to lift off. "Will do." Knowledgeseeker replied.

I smiled, flying off.
