Chapter 34: Whitney, I Try
Chemistry is so hard!! I don't understand why we have to take it! I miss potions class. I wanted to learn more about the different kinds of potions and test them out. However, the school required that I take chemistry because the colleges would be impressed with me. I sighed as I looked at my chemistry homework. It looked so hard to do.
"Relax Whitney, you will do fine" Scratch reassured me.
"Easy for you to say, you don't have to worry about school" I retorted.
I knew that wasn't very nice but when I am stress, things just come out. Luckily, she knew that too. She sat on my bed and stretched her wings out.
"Why don't you take a break?" she asked me calmly.
"I don't think I can. I have a paper, test, and 3 quizzes I should study for" I replied as I finished one of my trivial homework assignments.
"I think you should. If you wish to do better on your assignments" she said to me.
I know about that, but I wasn't sure about it. I want to take a break but I don't feel like I should. I wasn't sure about it entirely.
"It will do you some good, so please" Scratch pleaded.
"I'll try" I replied as I finished my paper.
We walked down to the Commons, but we just saw other students studying for tests or quizzes.
"What are you guys studying for?" Scratch asked as she looked at the tired out students.
"I don't know anymore" I replied truthfully.
However, I glanced at Esha's text book and noticed something odd about it. I know we have an important chemistry test, but that was it. We shared the same classes yet she was reading a book about combat magic. We weren't supposed to have another test on that till May. Something was wrong.
"Scratch, I think we should take a look around" I said.
Scratch was confused as she looked at me. She flew above me.
"Are you sure? Did you forget about your big important chem test?" she asked me worriedly.
"I know I have to do that, but something isn't right here" I replied and I walked around.
The other students were studying for tests that wouldn't happen for a month! However, I wasn't feeling the effects. I walked to the library and saw a lot more people studying!
"Ok! I believe you! Something is definitely wrong with your classmates!" Scratch exclaimed as she looked at the stressed out and tired students.
I looked at the books they were reading and I noticed something about the books they were reading. They all had something to do with magic.
"Why would someone want my friends to learn these magic spells?" I asked Scratch.
However, instead of a response from Scratch, I received a response from a man in a black coat!
"Well it's really simple. Your grade has some of the smartest people I've seen. The Dreamers are hopeless without Ben, Jiwon, and Perry. I placed the smartest people in your grade under my power and now, they are learning powerful magic that will destroy the Dreamers" he stated.
I was insulted!
I replied back with sass in my voice "Ok first off, you are a very rude man! I am smart! Second off, what gives you the right to take control of my classmates! I don't know how you cursed them, but I will break your spell!"
He scoffed "I like to see you try"
He waved his hands and the ground began to shake a bit! I was trying to get my footing, but luckily, Scratch caught me and flew us to safety.
"Organization 13 is at it again. I guess that makes sense. With the Dreamers in shambles they would try and destroy them now" Scratch commented as she flew us out of the library.
I had to agree with her on that. The Dreamers were the only ones who would defend the school from harm, but when they were gone, their enemies would attack the school. I shudder as I thought about what would happen if they were gone for good. We landed in the Commons and I ran to a backpack. I pulled a book out of my backpack and began to look for a spell to cure my friends.
"Any luck?" Scratch asked as she kept an eye for anyone who might harm us.
"Almost. It's kind of hard to decode certain spells" I replied to her as I kept looking for one.
"Why is that?" Scratch asked as she sat by my side.
"Well, I may know some tricks, but others I don't. I need to think for a moment" I answered.
However, we felt the ground shake again! No one in the commons was reacting to the ground shaking! That actually gave me a hint about the spell used.
"Grab the book! We need to go" Scratch ordered me as her claws grab my shoulders.
I grab the book and my wand. She flew us away from the earthquake, but as I looked back I looked book that was falling off the table. Once the book hit the earthquake, the earthquake stopped!
"Scratch! Wait! The earthquake is gone!" I shouted excitedly.
"Wait, are you serious?" she asked me as she stopped flying but was able to keep us in the air.
She looked at the Commons to see no earthquake. We both looked at each other.
"Illusions!" we said in unison.
"If it's an illusion, then who's making the illusion?" Scratch asked as she gently placed me on the ground.
I shrugged, but I was glad to know that our enemy's skills.
"Well, do you know how to beat this guy?" Scratch asked me as she stretched her wings.
"I do. All you need to do is charge at the illusion and know that it is just an illusion that you are seeing. That is the only way to beat that type of magic" I answered her with a smile.
"Wow! You've been studying, haven't you?" Scratch asked impressed.
"Well, yeah! I have to! There is thing call college that I am afraid of!" I replied annoyed.
She knew this information, but she would bring it up every time just to annoy me. I began to find a spell to help my friends and classmates. I saw Hiba writing a paper that wasn't due for about a month. I walked over to her and looked through my book to find the right spell. I held my wand over Hiba's head.
"Do you think you should test the spell before you use it on a person?" Scratch asked with a hint of worry in her voice.
"Yes, but I think it will work, hopefully" I replied and waved my wand over Hiba as I chanted the spell.
Hiba woke up and then looked at the amount of work she was doing. She then rubbed her eyes and then looked at me.
"Whitney, what happened?" she asked me curiously.
"Yay! Hiba! You're ok!" I shouted happily as I hugged her tightly.
"Yes, but why wouldn't I be?" she asked me confused.
"It's a long story, but we need to free our classmates!" I replied to her.
"Ok, but how? They look like there under a spell" Hiba asked me as she put her things away.
"I solved it. I know how to free them" I said as I showed her the spell.
Hiba read the spell cautiously and nodded.
"Leave it to the Knight of Mystery to find the right spell" Hiba complemented and we ran to our other friends and cast the spell on them.
"What's going on?" Elizabeth asked as she awoke from the spell.
"It's a long story, but just leave the school" I told her.
She didn't bother to ask what was going on and left the school. I walked back to Hiba to see if she was ok.
"Alright, how many have you freed?" I asked her.
"Well, most of the classmates on the second floor are free. However, there are still some under the spell" she replied seriously.
"Well, I guess I'll go after them. You go to the others, I can save them" I shouted to her with some confidence in my voice.
"Alright, but be safe Whitney" she told me as she ran to join the others.
I walked to the second floor and Scratch flew to my sides.
"So, do you have a plan to stop this guy and save your friends?" she asked as she flew to my side.
"Uh, sort of? I honestly have no idea what I am doing" I replied truthfully.
We walked back to the library and saw Sam W, Nish, and Sean still reading the books about homework we won't have to do for a very long time. I ran to them as Scratch flew above us. However, a giant heartless grab her as she yelped. I turned around and then I was worried.
"Scratch! Scratch the heartless!" I shouted urgently.
"Uh how?!" she shouted annoyed.
"Enough!" shouted the person with the cloak as he appeared above the heartless.
We looked at him as he reveled his hood. It was a guy with silver hair and yellow eyes. He was angry.
"I will destroy you!" he shouted as the giant heartless raised his hand!
"Whitney! Move!" Scratch urged me, but I couldn't!
I was too frozen to move! However, a portal appeared in front of me! I was a bit shocked while Scooby jumped out! He ran over to me and licked me! I was rolling in laughter while Scratch and the man were confused.
"Since when were you friends with a dog?!" Scratch asked annoyed and sort of jealous.
Shaggy stepped out and walked over to me and Scooby until the portal closed.
"Ah, hey Whitney! How's it going?" Shaggy asked as he kneeled to her.
"Uh pretty good, except for that" I said as I held Scooby and pointed to the giant heartless.
"Like zoniks! What is going on?!" he asked as he jumped up in fear.
"It's a long story" I replied with a sigh.
"Do you surrender?" the man asked annoyed.
"Yes!" Shaggy shouted in a panic while I sighed.
I may be a knight to Logan, but sometimes I question what fate has in stored for me. Scratch looked at me with a weird expression and then glanced at Shaggy. I sighed.
"Get him to safety along with Scooby. I'll think of some way to stop the heartless" I whispered to her.
However, the giant heartless slammed his fist on the ground and caused an earthquake! The school was torn apart! Scratch and Scooby were thrown to one side of the library while Shaggy was on the other. I was in the middle. In the earthquake, I dropped my wand! I ran towards it, but the heartless slammed his fist near me!
"Enough of this foolishness! I will end this Knight of Clues once and for all!" he shouted angrily.
He was red in the face and furious at me. I was pale. This was scary. The giant heartless raised his fist, but then we heard Scooby barking and making taunts at the giant heartless and the man with silver hair.
"What is he doing?" he asked me annoyed and confused.
I wasn't sure how to answer. I glanced at Scooby and then he winked at me. I gaped a bit and then I looked at the man with silver hair.
"I believe he is making fun of you" I replied simply.
He growled and then he pointed at Scooby. The giant heartless carried him to Scooby. I was worried about him, but then I felt Scratch's claws grab onto my shoulders and she carried me to where Shaggy was and in his hand, was my wand!
"What about Scooby?" I asked him with worry.
"Like don't worry man, he's gonna be fine. Just watch" Shaggy reassured me as he looked at him.
I looked back at him and noticed Scooby was dodging all of the giant heartless's attacks by jumping around! My jaw dropped while Scratch was laughing! However, the man with silver hair turned towards me with a glare. The giant heartless then marched over to where I was standing and I knew only one possible spell that could defeat it. I have one small problem. I don't have enough power to defeat it. I pointed my wand at the giant heartless, shakily. I then saw Shaggy hold my wand and Scratch laid her claw on it too!
"We support you!" they said in unison as the wand glowed brighter!
I closed my eyes and thought of one spell. My wand began to shine and then a giant light beam shot from my wand and struck the giant heartless! The man with silver hair fell down and shouted in defeat. Shaggy ruffled my hair and Scratch smiled at me happily. Scooby then ran up to me and licked me.
"Thank you all for helping me!" I shouted at them happily.
Hiba then ran into the room and hugged me!
"You're ok!" she shouted at me joyfully.
"Of course, I was going to be. Don't worry too much Hiba" I replied coolly.
Shaggy and Scooby approached the man with silver hair.
"Who are you?" Shaggy asked seriously.
The young man growled and disappeared in a dark corridor! Shaggy and Scooby jumped away in fear while I stood their unfazed. I was used to this ever since the first attack on our school. Afterwards, Hiba, Scratch, and I discovered that everyone else was freed from the spell and decided to relax a bit since so many people worked ahead. Once Logan returned from his journey, he helped me send Shaggy and Scooby back to their realm.
"Well I think that was a long break, don't you think so?" Scratch asked as we walked to my room.
"I agree, but I would rather go through that then study for another chemistry and potions test" I replied to her with a yawn.
Despite the long day, I was able to finish most of the important assignments and relax a bit. I have to be honest though. If it weren't for the Dreamers, I wouldn't know how to relax or enjoy some quiet time.
