CLASSICAL MUSLIMAH: 1
Asokoro, Abuja, Nigeria.
Monday, 12 February, 2018.
Eesh changed her sitting position on the love seat in the Muhammad Umar mansion. She furrowed her brows as she went through the comments. How could she get just a thousand comments? She had posted a snippet of her blog on Instagram the previous night. It was already noon and she got just a thousand comments? She huffed and dropped her phone on the love seat, thinking a way to get her fans back to her.
Maryam Abbakar Umar, nicknamed Amrah came in and saw Eesh huffing and puffing. She sat beside her.
"What's up? Why are you looking like you could explode any minute?" Amrah said peeping into Eesh's phone.
"Well, that's because I could!" Eesh snapped angrily.
"Whoa, chill girl. I was only asking a simple question." Amrah said leaving the room. She knew Eesh would never apologize. When she offended someone and she knew she was wrong, she'd just let you cool off for a day, and make the first move of talking to you. That was just how she was. Egoistic.
Maryam Abubakar Umar was one of Eesh's cousins whom she talked to. She's fair, unlike Eesh who's chocolate. A slender nose, thick full brows, pale extremely plump lips and large eyes are the features Amrah possessed. She was tall and slender, always smiling.
But despite possessing all those features that everyone thinks are the features a beautiful woman must possess, Amrah was quite the ugly one among her three siblings. But it was one of the traits of the Umar family. Ugliness. And what made the trait more prominent was the fact that her parents Amina Gana Jalingo and Faruk Umar Jalingo, were cousins. It was a family marriage.
Eesh on the other hand possesed a few Fulani mixed with Shuwa Arab traits. Her mother, Asma'u Abdu Nasidi was Fulani-Shuwa Arab. Despite that, she took only a few of the traits which made her more beautiful than ninety five percent of the family.
Eesh was dark in complexion, with round large eyes, long brown hair that stopped on her upper back, small dark lips always set in a thin line, a slightly slender nose and small carved brows. She was a little bit short and chubby. Always wearing the boss lady face.
Eesh heard her phone ring before pulling it up to see who was disturbing her five minutes of thinking. Seeing the caller ID and couldn't stop herself from scoffing, then rolling her eyes.
"Hey." She said in a bored tone.
"Ameen Wa Alaikis Salam. I'm fine, Alhamdulillah. How, are you?" Hauwa Mubarak Umar sarcastically answered. She was one of the many cousins who Eesh never liked talking to. They always preached about everything she did. Which she hated.
But unfortunately for Eesh, she was stuck with her because that Hauwa was like a leach.
"Be happy I even said hey. Hauwa, what is it?" Eesh snapped, she hated anything that would bruise her ego and just what Hauwa said did it.
"Firstly, my name is Uwani. Secondly, fear Allah Aishatu..."
"Eesh." Eesh cut her off before dropping the phone on the love seat so that she could stand up and perform ablution. Yes, she might be an ego maniac but she was a Muslim after all. And she performed all what was compulsory on a Muslim.
After performing ablution she brought out a burgundy floor length Khimaar before praying Zuhr.
Hauwa came inside the room with a scowl on her face. She took off her shoes by the door and sat on the couch. She removed the pine ankle length Hijab she was wearing and hanged it on the bag rack before dropping her bag which she got from Eesh on the ground.
"Aishatu!" She called out making herself comfortable on the wine colored couch. She decided to give the room a once over before Eesh came out of wherever she was. It had been renovated and it was just three months ago she came last.
The room was painted in wine and peach. The couch, wine in color. The royal queen sized bed, peach with touches of wine. Wine drag up curtains covering a large window by the left. A wine bag rack which was previously in the walk-in closet sat by the door. A wine with peach base loveseat sat beside the peach and wine sliding-mirror wardrobe.
Two bed side drawers sat on either side of the bed. A plush wine carpet sat on the floor covering a fair amount of the plane cream tiles.
Eesh came out of the walk in closet wearing a frost top, well tucked into her dark chocolate palazzo pants with her brown long hair in a pompadour. Frost Burberry flats were in her hands as she walked out with her usual boss lady face.
"Hauwa. You should've said you were coming." Eesh said sitting in her famous position, lying on her side with her hand beneath her head holding her up on her loveseat.
"I did. How would you know?" Hauwa scoffed before adding, "And please don't make me repeat myself, my name is Uwani, U-W-A-N-I. U-wa-ni." Hauwa spelt it out for her.
"Your real name is Hauwa. And don't expect me to ever call you that. So you expect me to be calling you that in front of my friends? No, thank you. I don't want anyone to think less of this family." Eesh said like it was the most obvious thing.
"Whatever. Here is the entrance permit card for Mami's bridal shower. Make sure you bring Humylash, this is her own entry permit card. I'll be on my way." Hauwa said standing up.
"What's the color of the day?" Eesh asked sitting up to check out the cards given to her.
"What's the use of telling you when you'll make sure you wear the direct opposite? It's fern pine." Hauwa said scoffing as she wore her Hijab.
"Okay." Eesh said putting the cards in a frost colored Burberry bag.
Hauwa left while Eesh was still checking out the invitation card that came with the permit and saw that the bridal shower was to take place on the thirteenth of that month. That was on the Tuesday of that week, the next day. It was to take place at Nicon Hilton, Abuja.
She quickly loosened the pompadour her hair was styled into before combing it. It was not full nor thick so combing it was easy. She packed it in a baby ribbon before styling the edges and wearing a dark chocolate turban. She ambled out of her room and secured it with a key before sauntering to her father's side of the house.
Their house, or better called mansion, was extremely big with numerous rooms. There were two parlors in the main side of the house which was in the middle of the huge mansion. In the main side were two parlors, one upstairs, one downstairs. There were five rooms there and a kitchen with a store. The whole side was painted in frost and fuchsia pink.
Then Eesh's side which was a whole flat, or storey rather had two parlors, one up, another down, three rooms two of which are Eesh's; one, her vlogging room and one her personal room she hardly allowed anyone in. A huge kitchen where Humylash, a famous blogger and renowned chef, tutors Eesh on cooking.
It was painted in her two favorite colors, wine and peach. Except for the room she blogs in, that is painted in frost and fuchsia pink.
Then Alhaji Muhammad Umar Jalingo, Eesh's father's side. Also painted in the house's neutral color, frost and fuchsia pink. It had two bedrooms, two parlors, a dining area where he had his dinners with Eesh and her late mother and lastly a relatively large kitchen where Hajiya Asma'u used to cook before her demise.
Eesh drove to her father's side in her white Porsche Cayman. She was a sucker for sport cars. She drove to his side and entered. Alhaji Muhammad Umar Jalingo was a politician, a retired doctor. He was dark, a huge contrast to his late fair wife. With a slightly potted belly, small carved brows, slender nose, small lips and large eyes. His daughter, Aishatu - a name she despised due to the memories it brought to life - is a perfect replica of him, just more beautiful than he can ever be - something she got from her late mother.
Eesh jumped on her father, engulfing him in a bear hug making him shake with laughter.
"Baddo am {my favorite} do you want to break your daddy's bones?"
"Haba daddyn baddo."
"Toh. Where to?"
"You know my friend, Humylash?"
"Yes baddo."
"Tohm. Mami sent her invite for the bridal shower for tomorrow. I'm going to the saloon, shopping then I'll take it to her. I need your card."
"okay. You know the pin right?"
"Yes, 0896."
"Good girl. Jippo jam {land safely}. And drive safely."
"Will do daddy."
Eesh drove out of the house to have lunch. She went to a restaurant close to her saloon. Then later she'd go to Jabi lake mall for shopping before driving off to Humylash's house in Kuje.
She ate in silence until a guy with bald head and a slightly potted belly approached her. He was handsome though. She groaned inwardly and ignored his presence above her.
"The Classical Muslimah herself. Hi, I'm Aliyu. Nice to meet you." The guy said stretching his hand out for a shake.
"Don't you know something called personal space?" She seethed. She hated it when guys would approach her. Some even going to the extent of asking for her number.
"Oh, sorry. I just wanted to say you're more beautiful in person. Can I have your contact if you don't mind?" the guy asked again.
"Excuse me." She stood, levid. She called for the waiter and asked her to pack her food, she wants it to go. She paid her in cash before stomping out like the daddy's girl she is.
She entered her car and revved it to life before driving to a house with an inside women only spa opposite Jabi lake mall. She hopped out with her bag in hand and a take out nylon in the other.
Once in the house she made a phone call and soon enough, a petite dark lady wearing a blue high waist denim jeans with a frost short sleeved top featuring a white apron and frost turban, came out. It seemed like everyone just discovered the color, Frost. Eesh on the other hand despised the color because of the memories it brought. She didn't even know what prompted her to wear it.
"The Classical Muslimah, welcome. Please, do come in. You're our first customer today." The lady said.
"Whatever." Eesh said standing up with her takeout and bag in one hand as she typed furiously on her phone. Eesh took her seat in front of a mirror as three ladies arrived.
"I'll be your manicurist. Angel would be your pedicurist while Fatima takes care of your hair." The lady that welcomed Eesh said opening some drawers.
They brought out their instruments and set to work. The manicurist had to wait for Eesh to finish eating before she set to work. Two hours later, they were done with everything and she paid them in cash before leaving.
She embarked on the short journey to Jabi lake mall. She bought a cute Donald Duck magenta night wear, cute magenta flip flops, a drak red silky night robe and a set of cute hair clips. She bought some turbans and two Gucci tummy belts before driving to Kuje to see Humylash. She reached there and got allowed to go in immediately since she was a regular guest.
"Humylash, as you can see I'm very tired and can't wait to leave so let's get straight to the point. You remember Mami, my cousin right?" Eesh said immediately she let her bum touch the chair.
"Yes, what about her? I heard she's getting married." Humylash said as she sipped her so-called non alcoholic wine.
"Yes, and she has invited you to her bridal shower. The color of the day is fern pine. It's tomorrow, here's your IV." Eesh said bringing out the invitation card coupled with the entrance permit. She was about to hand it to Humylash when a petite lady with a disheveled hair came to whisper something in Humylash's ear.
She muttered something too and the lady left.
"Anyways..." Eesh said but got cut off by a lady's voice.
"Humylash, long time." A petite lady said making herself comfortable in the parlor.
"Kedai bari kawai {just leave it}. Meet my friend, fellow blogger, Aisha Muhammad, the classical Muslimah." Humylash said waving at a bored looking Eesh who was looking intently at her nails. The manucurist didn't do her job right. Some nails were longer than the others.
"Nice to finally meet the classical Muslimah. Aisha..."
"Eesh." Eesh corrected the lady.
"Sorry, Eesh. I'm Aleesha AbdulMajid."
"Nice meeting you." Eesh said without glancing at Aleesha. Aleesha extended her hand for a shake but Eesh looked at her extended hand.
"Sorry sweetie, but I don't do hand shakes." Eesh wanted nothing but to get out of that place. She looked at Humylash.
"Don't forget. Tomorrow we're going to Nicon Hilton so be ready and please, no natives. Tohm. Ciao {bye}." She stood up and left not before giving Aleesha a smug look.
Aleesha had been gawking at her. Yes, she knew she was beautiful but did she have to make it that obvious.
Eesh drove back home and parked. She called one of the housemaids to take her shopping to her blogging room. Her phone started ringing in her bag making her groan in annoyance.
Can't she get two good minutes of peace on earth? She was shuffling through her bag to bring it out when someone bumped chest to chest with her making her drop her bag.
"What the hell is wrong with you and who the hell are you?" Eesh snapped angrily at the young man standing in front of her as the housemaid who was taking her shopping bags to her room bent to pick up the bag.
"I'm sorry. I wasn't looking. I was just reminded of my dead parents so..." The guy started explaining when he got cut off by Eesh.
"Oh please. Save the pathetic story of the sorry excuse you call a life to yourself. I don't want to hear it." She snapped angrily again before walking, more like stomping away angrily.
It was official. Her day had been ruined!
