~ Must Stain Mustaine ~

This had been a bad idea.

Parties were not my thing. Anyone who knew anything about me could tell you that. And this was not just any party; it was a musician's party.

Don't get me wrong. I lived for music. But I only knew a few of the people in attendance; what if I couldn't even find one of them?

I wished I hadn't promised Vince I'd be there. I didn't even know where he was, and I really had no way of finding him. Luckily, I managed to spot a familiar mane of blond hair, and I decided to go and talk to my friend while I waited for Vince to come stumbling by.

"Hey, James!" I called, approaching him. "How is everything?"

"Ah, it's lame," he said, giving me a little shake of the hand. "Did you just get here?"

"Yeah, a second ago. You seen Vince?"

"Vince? Vince Neil?"

"Yeah, him."

"Nah, but I heard he's coming. He'll probably be here soon. Wanna wait for him with me?"

"Yeah, sure," I agreed, relieved to know Vince was on his way. Not that I didn't like spending time with James...

"Anyway, why are you here, (Y/N)? No offense or anything, I just don't see this as... your scene."

"It isn't," I said, laughing a little. "I promised Vince I'd come."

"Not the best choice in the world," he said, and I had to agree. "Well, like I said, you can just chill with me while you wait."

"Thanks," I said, "didn't know you of all people could be nice."

"Hey," he said in a defensive tone, but paused. "You have a point."

I laughed, then asked, "how's the band?"

"Uh... good. We're working on some new songs right now. I kind of feel bad... ya know... about Dave, but I really think it was for the best."

I'd met Dave a few times, but none of the meetings were very long. I didn't know that much about him, but he had seemed nice enough when we met. However, I wasn't at the heart of this situation, so I couldn't put in my actual opinion.

"I'm sure you did what you thought was right," was all I could say.

We talked for a bit, but eventually the stuffy party environment got to me.

"I'm going outside for a minute. I need air," I told James.

"Alright. Do you want me to come with you?"

"No, that's alright. I'll be right back."

He nodded and I made my way out, quickly finding the back door. I stumbled outside, greeted by a cool breeze gently lifting my hair away from my face. The sound of music blasting from the speakers rolled around the yard in waves.

I sat on a stone wall at the back of the yard, near a few trees. There was a group of people a few feet away, one of which seemed vaguely familiar. I couldn't really see him, though, because it was dark, so I gave up trying to recognize him.

However, it looked like I was going to have to try again, because he had said something to his friend and was now walking up to me.

"Hey, it's (Y/N), right?"

I was able to get a good look at him then. Yeah, I knew this guy. It was none other than Dave Mustaine.

"Yeah, and you're Dave, right?"

"Uh-huh, that's me. I haven't seen you in a while."

"I don't usually come to parties," I explained. "I'm only here because I promised my friend Vince I would be."

"Makes sense," he shrugged, "these parties suck. May I?"

He gestured to the segment of wall next to me. I nodded and he sat.

"So, what's going on? What have you been up to lately?" He asked.

"Not much," I said, "not much at all. You?"

"Just working on stuff with the band... You haven't met them, have you?"

"No..." To be honest, I didn't know he was in another band.

"Ah, you can meet 'em later. Are you still working at the record shop?"

I nodded. "Can't seem to find a better job, so I'm sticking with it."

He laughed. "I think I would like to work at a record shop... It sounds like fun."

"Sometimes," I shrugged. "I get to take some of the records home. And I get to play whatever I want while I'm working."

"Yeah, see? It has perks."

I laughed a little. "Anyway, tell me about your new band. How did that happen?"

"Well, I figured I still wanted to be in a band. I met these guys who were also musicians and we formed Megadeth. We did end up getting a new guitarist and drummer, though."

"That's a pretty cool name. How do you spell that?"

"M-e-g-a-d-e-t-h. No spaces or anything."

"I knew it. Too cool for the 'a' in 'death'."

"You know it," he said, flicking an imaginary speck of dust off his arm. "So... you wanna meet the guys?"

I nodded, eager to see who Dave had chosen to form a band with. He got to his feet and gestured for me to follow.

"(Y/N), meet David Ellefson, Chris Poland, and Gar Samuelson. Guys, this is my friend, (Y/N)."

"Oh, you're (Y/N)?" David asked, his eyes narrowing a little in thought. "Dave, is she the one you-"

"Don't know what you're talking about," Dave cut him off. "Why don't you all tell her what you play?"

"Bass guitar," David said, unfazed at having been interrupted.

"Guitar," Chris said.

"And I play the drums," said Gar.

"It's nice to meet you all," I said, nodding around at them. "How is it being in the band?"

"A lotta fun," David replied. "Can't get enough of the music, you know how it is."

"Uh-huh. I sure do. I should, seeing as I work at a record shop."

"Do you get free records?" Chris asked.

"Yeah, usually. Sometimes I have to buy them, but when I realize I do I just take 'em."

They laughed, and I caught Dave shaking his head out of the corner of my eye.

"Anyway, I'll catch up with you guys later," Dave said to his bandmates. "(Y/N), wanna come to the kitchen with me?"

I shrugged and nodded, saying a little goodbye to each of his friends. Then I followed Dave back into the house.

"What did you want to come in here for?"

"I heard they had candy. And look, I was right." He pointed to a bowl full of candy sitting on a table. He whistled an innocent tune, then absentmindedly walked over to it. Still whistling, he plunged his hand into the bowl, then quickly deposited his catch in his pocket. Seeing this, I had to laugh.

"What are you doing? It's take what you want."

"Oh," he said, blinking. Then he took the entire bowl and started trying to fit all the candy in his pockets.

"Not like that," I said, laughing as I rushed over. I took the bowl from him and set it back on the table, pushing his hands down when he lifted them to grab it again.

"That's not fair... What happened to 'take what you want'?"

"You gotta leave some for everyone else."

"They don't deserve it," he laughed. But then he nodded, accepting it.

"Who puts a whole pack of gum in a candy bowl?" He asked, laughing as he pulled the mentioned item out of his pocket in disbelief.

Eventually, we ended up outside, in the front yard this time. We joked around for a while, sharing the candy he'd taken. It was nice.

And then I spotted it: the platinum-blond head sporting a band with an upside-down star on it. Yeah, there was no mistaking him; it was Vince.

"Vince!" I called, taking a step toward him but remaining fairly close to Dave. "Where the hell have you been?"

"Nowhere," he said, like a child getting caught coming home late from school after having stopped at the sweets shop. "I'm here now."

"You make me come to this, and have the nerve to show up hours later? You're lucky I've been having a good time."

"A 'good time' good time?"

"Shut up, you know what I meant," I said.

"Well, look- Mick wants us at the house. He said to bring you."

"What? What about the party?" What I really meant was what about Dave?

"There will always be another one."

"I... fine. Just give me a moment."

I turned back to Dave. "I guess I have to go."

"Yeah, I heard," he said, grinning. "Here."

He held out a fist, prompting me to put my hand out. He lowered his hand into mine, opened it, and curled my fingers around it.

It was the pack of gum, along with a few other pieces of candy. I noticed a number written on the pack.

"If you wanna talk... or something..."

I grinned. "Thanks, Dave."

I kissed him on the cheek, then turned to follow Vince. When we got to the car I turned to wave, and I saw Dave grinning in a silly way. I laughed and gave him a thumbs-up, checking to make sure I still had the pack. And we were off.

This is really bad, but I tried my best. Sorry I took so much time to update this but I was fresh out of ideas. *cough* excuses *cough*

Anyway, I've decided I'm gonna start another book, like a spam or something. It'll include pictures of rockstars and stuff like that. That'll be up soon, not sure what the title will be but ehh.

Also, my internet is really slow right now, because I'm not at my house and there's no WiFi. Because of this, I used all my data, and then I ran out of that... Sucks. So I'm not on here as often, but I'm trying to stay on top of things.
