"hm," jim hummed; the slight vibration tickling the back of his throat as he looked up at the blank ceiling above your bed. his arm was around your shoulders as you nuzzled into his side and the pad of his thumb was stroking your skin gently. "if you could go anywhere in the world at this very moment... where would it be?" he inquired in his gruff, somewhat sleepy voice.

the question made your brows furrow at the randomness of it, but it was jim, and you knew how he could be at times. especially during the night when all of his thoughts seemed to awaken with the owls that cooed in the vacant darkness outside your bedroom window. your fingertips drummed lightly along his chest as you thought, your lips pursing as you gnawed gently at the soft flesh of your cheek. "i... i'd have to go with mcdonald's," you told him.

his eyes rolled and despite his chuckles, his head was shaking and he sighed loudly. "no... i mean... think big! if you could go anywhere in this world... where would you go? c'mon, sweets... don't fail me now," he persisted, giving her a gentle shake as he kept her close.

you mimicked his sigh unknowingly and began to think again. "hm... france," you said, shrugging a little bit. "paris has always seemed like a great place to visit," you added, tracing abstract shapes along his t-shirt covered chest that was slowly rising and falling with every breath he took.

     he nodded, the chocolate curls he had on his forehead shifting just slightly. "i'll take you to france someday," he told her; but he made sure it came off as a promise. "paris, nice, burgundy... wherever you can dream of, i'll take you there one day."

     the promise made you smile, the little flutter of your heart making you move as close to him as possible, although it wasn't much closer than you already were. "i love you," you cooed, lifting your chin from his shoulder to press a sweet kiss to his cheek, which, in return, made him smile a lazy smile.

     however, just as he was about to speak, the distant rumbling of thunder froze his words and he swallowed thickly; knowing how much you despised thunderstorms. he let out a soft sigh, turned his head to give your forehead a kiss, and then he laid his head against yours. "you know, as long as you're with me, i'm never gonna let you feel anything less than safe and protected, right?" he murmured, his hand rubbing your arm soothingly as the rumbles started getting slightly louder as the rain pelting against your roof became audible.

     you grew tense at the noises of mother nature, but the sense of safety and warmth from jim calmed you all at once. you nodded at his words, your heart swelling a bit at the fact that someone truly cared for you in the way some girls could only dream of. "i-i know," you stammered, your hand grasping gently at his shirt out of the rising fear.

     jim felt the gripping at his shirt, and he turned over onto his side after he made you lay on your own side, facing away from him. his arm draped over your waist and he pulled you close as the other arm acted as your pillow and his fingers began running through your locks. "it's alright," he purred into your ear, his lips kissing your head gently. "i've got you, darling," he assured you.

     the embrace from jim calmed you almost instantly, your stomach flipping at the tenderness of the man you so luckily got to call your boyfriend. you managed a small, weak smile and nodded. "thank you..." you whispered.

it wasn't too much longer until you finally drifted off to sleep right there, in his arms. he was awake; staying up just in case you woke back up and needed him. after all, he would do absolutely anything for the girl he loved.
