Chapter 18

"The party yesterday..." Nate repeats quietly, knowing what his father was going to bring up with him.

"Of course the party yesterday. I get a call from the priest the second you stepped foot off those church steps, and not to mention you did not come home at all last night. I want to know where you were, right here and now." Nate's father demands, he looked like his eyes were about to pop out with how angry he was.

"I-I had to finish an assignment with my friends, and I knew you wouldn't let me stay out late so I lied about the party because the assignment is serious, we need to have it finished by the end of the week!" Ryan says in sadness, a hint of intimidation could be heard in his voice.

"What about your drunk friend then, huh?" His father questions, looking like his anger was no where near being gone.

Ryan sighed lightly, looking down at the floor. "I-I was on my way home when I was passing by the church and saw a drunk person entering the building, I couldn't just let him do that so I followed him inside and brought him out. I played along with the whole friend thing to not start a commotion." Ryan explains, glancing up at his father, hoping that was an explanation he could believe.

His father stared at him for a couple of seconds before letting out a light sigh. "You still have to be punished because you lied to me, you are going to apologies to the father as well. I want your phone on the dining room table right now, and you have to come home straight after school every single day. You can help your mother make decorations for the basement of the church." His father explains, now walking away from Ryan and going back into the kitchen.

Ryan watched his father walk away before sighing, reaching into his pocket and taking out his phone, placing it on the table. "Here" Ryan says to his mother who was sitting at the table, and his mother nodded, taking Ryan's phone once he put it down.

Meanwhile with Jake and Nate, they arrived at Nate's house. Right when Jake had parked the car, Nate rushed out of the car and walked up to the front steps where his brother was sitting down on the porch steps and the police man was standing off to aside, beside him.

"Are you the guardian of this young man?" The police man asks, obviously referring to Nathan.

"Yes, yes I am" Nate answers, very quickly just because he was so nervous.

"I saw this young man trying to steal clothes from the mall..." The police man continues to say which made Nate glance at Nathan with a glare on his face.

"I am so sorry officer he won't be doing anything like that again." Nate reassures, looking at the police officer with pleading eyes.

The police officers took a light sigh out, before looking past Nate at the boy who was walking up to all three of them, entering the conversation. "Oh- Jake, hey!" The police officer says in a bright smile, waving a little to Jake who was still walking towards them.

Jake waved hi back before finally getting to them, he stopped right beside Nate.

Nate looked back and forth from Jake, to the police officer. "You two know each other?" Nate questions, one eyebrow raised in suspicion.

"Of course I know Jake, he's the chief's son. His father is one of the best cops in the whole department" The policeman explains in a smile, before turning his head to look back at Nate. "Make sure he doesn't do anything like this again or I'll have to take him down to the police station next time." The police officer says to Nate which he nodded to.

As the police officer walked away, he patted Nate's shoulder in reassurance before heading to his car and driving away.

Once the policeman was out of sight, Nate turned his head to look at Nathan and looked at him seriously. "What was so important to get that you couldn't have paid for?" He questions, not sounding angry, but he sounded more upset.

"My friends were all getting these shirts that are only here for a limited time, and I didn't have any money on me so they told me why don't I just steal it. I wasn't going to at first, but once I saw all of them getting theirs, kind of flaunting their new purchase around, I wanted one for myself, to relate to the conversation, to fit in with my friends. So I decided to take it, and just to my luck someone caught me." Nathan replies, saying the last part in a sarcastic tone.

"You know it's not right to steal Nathan, I thought I taught you that." Nate explains, sighing lightly.

"You did...I just don't know what came over me..." Nathan says, you could hear just how much guilt he was feeling from his tone of voice.

Nate could tell how sorry Nathan was and nodded meaning okay. "You can go inside the house, I'll be making dinner shortly, okay?" Nate says and Nathan nodded meaning yes, standing up and turning around, going inside the house.

Nate then turned to his side and looked at Jake, saying "I didn't know your dad worked with the police, that's so cool! Why didn't you tell me?" Nate questions, looking at Jake in a little astonishment.

Jake shrugged his shoulders. "Don't know" he says, not sounding like he wanted to talk about the topic anymore, yet that's how Jake always sounded so it was hard for Nate to tell if he should continue the conversation or not.

With Ethan, Carter and Lucas, they had finally got to Ethan's apartment, and once Ethan had let them inside, Carter noticed this place looked very familiar.

"D-Do you guys want anything to drink...water...soda?" He offers, looking at both of them.

"I'll have some soda, what about you Carter?" Lucas asks, glancing back at Carter who looked like he was too focused on figuring out where he's seen this place before to answer Lucas or Ethan.

Figuring he wasn't going to get an answer, Lucas turned his head to look back at Ethan and answers "I guess I'm only getting a soda." He says in a smile and Ethan nodded quietly, going to the kitchen, pulling out a bottle of soda from the fridge and pouring a cup of soda for Lucas.

As Ethan brought the cup of soda back to Lucas, he says a little "here" while handing it to him.

"Thanks man" Lucas says as he took the cup from Ethan's hand, downing half of the soda already.

While Ethan led the two other boys into the living room, Carter finally realized where he was, and his eyes opened wide. They were all standing around the couches in the living room and Carter questions "was I here last night?"

Lucas looked at Carter questioningly, asking like he was crazy "you think you were here last night?"

"Actually...you were" Ethan says, now starting to speak up.

Carters face turned almost pale, he knew this place looked familiar to this morning. "What...what happened last night" he says, you could hear the hesitation in his voice, as if he was almost scared to ask.

Ethan looked from Lucas to Carter. Lucas could feel the tense situation and figured the boys needed to talk this out between themselves and didn't want to pry himself into it. "I...I'll run out to the store for a sec, anyone want anything?" He asks with an awkward laugh at the end, looking from Ethan to Carter. After hearing no response from either of the boys, he then said "okay, well...I'll just get you guys whatever" turning around and heading out of Ethan's apartment.

As both boys heard the door shut, Ethan and Carter looked at each other once again, Carter waiting for a response.

"Yesterday at Kevin's house, you were really wasted...you didn't know where you were, you thought I was someone else, and you were talking to me as if we knew each other really well, saying things that made me confused-"

Ethan got cut off there by Carter, questioning "saying things like what?"

"I..just saying things like...how no one loves you...but, you were very depressed and you ran outside and I knew I couldn't leave you alone, you were going to do something to yourself, harm yourself maybe. I couldn't let that happen so I chased after you. You said you didn't want to go home so I told you to sleep at my place because I wasn't going to let you sleep outside." Ethan explains, looking down as he rubbed the back of his neck.

Carter stared at Ethan for a second or so before questioning "why...why help me?"

Ethan was quiet, thinking about that question himself. "I...I don't know...I know how it feels to be upset and depressed, and I could hear in what you were saying, I could hear in your tone of voice, I could see in your eyes that you were upset...and I don't want anyone going through that pain...because I know how that pain feels."

"But why me? I mean...I'm not a nice person to you..." Carter asks, still sounding confused and slightly mortified that someone, let alone someone like Ethan could now somehow know his dark family life.

"I don't know..." Ethan says, sighing as he sat down on the couch, looking down into his lap. "I don't know, but I saw pain..."

Carter let out a light sigh "I'm fine, don't worry...but...um...thank you." He says before sitting down next to Ethan.

"Don't thank me...but...yesterday you were saying how your parents left you...what was that about...if you don't mind me asking." Ethan questions, feeling as if he was walking on eggshells just talking about it.

Carters nails dug into the palm of his hands sharply, a stinging pain rushing up his forearms. "I...I don't know..." Carter says, you could feel the uncomfortable tone in his voice.

"Don't worry you don't have to talk about it if you don't want to..." Ethan says, reassuring Carter that he didn't need to talk about it.

Meanwhile with Jackson and Kevin, Kevin was invited to Jackson's house, to wait in his living room for him to get ready and they would head to Jackson's workplace together.

"You almost done in there?!" Kevin calls out, getting slightly impatient waiting for Jackson, yet was egar to see what he looked like in his 'drag.'

Jackson called back out, saying "yes, I'm just about done" and at the same time, Jackson opened the door to his bedroom, walking out in a light pink, skin tight dress and heels to match. He had a blonde wig on today and his makeup was as perfect as ever.

"Woah" Kevin says, astonished by Jackson's appearance. "This...is so cool" Kevin says, a wide smile growing across his face.

Jackson's face was starting to heat up with Kevin's compliment. "You...you ready to go to my work?" Jackson asks and Kevin nodded meaning yes, having the two boys leave Jackson's house as they both started walking to Jackson's workplace.

"My workplace is a couple minutes from here, but do you want to take a car instead? If we walk down the streets people might stare at us weirdly for my appearance.

"Let them stare" Kevin says in a smile, grabbing Jackon's hand and bringing him onto the main road. "So, lead the way." Kevin continues to say with the same smile on his face.
