Chapter 17
Todd and Jacob both couldn't believe what they were seeing, they really thought Max was attacking Ryan. Todd looked at Jacob, kind of like asking with his eyes if 'he should do it.'
Jacob hesitantly looked back at Todd but nodded meaning yes, and Todd instantly opened the door, barging in on the two boys inside the classroom.
Once Max and Ryan heard someone open the door, both turning their heads in Todd's direction, Ryan instantly pushed Max off of him. "Ryan, are you okay!? He wasn't hurting you, was he?" Todd asks, rushing up to Ryan and helping him up off of the floor.
Ryan was still in a little shock, his heart pounding by the second. "U-Uh yea I'm fine" Ryan stutters in surprise, not knowing what he should say.
Jacob was also inching into the room, not wanting to participate in what was going on, but was watching from a fair distance behind. "Max what the hell?!" Todd asks, glaring up at Max.
Max looked at Todd totally unfazed by his shouting and glances back down to Ryan who was still in Todd's embrace, holding him back from Max. Max could tell with the expression on Ryan's face that he didn't want the two others knowing what they were both doing. He then looked back at Todd, answering "nothing, he got me mad in the classroom so I was just ruffing him up a bit. What, I can't joke around?" Max says in a neutral tone, continuing to look at Todd with the same blank expression.
Todd sighs deeply "we're in a club together Max, you can't do that d to anyone, let alone a club member!" Todd says, moving Ryan so he was now standing behind him, as if he was protecting Ryan from Max.
With Todd having such determination to protect Ryan, Jacob looked at him in awe. "He's like a superhero in those movies..." He thought to himself, feeling his own heart starting to flutter. Then at the same time, he could feel a turning feeling in his chest because he wanted Todd to protect him like that.
Meanwhile in the classroom, Nate was in the middle of vigilantly working with Jake on whatever they were doing when he got a notification from his phone. As he pulled out his phone from his pocket, he looked at his phone to see his younger brother had messaged him, and from what he had read his younger brother had gotten himself into some trouble.
Jake could instantly tell something was wrong with Nate when he had pulled out his phone because his face turned sour. "okay?" Jake asks, looking at Nate worried.
Nate sighed deeply before putting a big smile on his face. "Yeah everything is fine, don't worry." He says before standing up and standing in front of the class. "So something has come up and I have to leave, so I guess club is done early today." Nate explains with the same smile on his face, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Why, is everything okay Nate?" Jackson asks, looking at Nate seriously.
"Oh yeah, everything is fine, something just came up but not anything serious. With that being said, I'll leave first." Nate answers, then going back to his desk to pack up his bag and scurries out of the classroom in a slight rush.
With Jake seeing that, he raised one eyebrow and followed Nate out, walking with him down the hall. Nate could hear footsteps walking up behind him, and as he turned his head to see Jake he questions "why're you following me Jake?"
"You're....upset...." Jake replies, looking at Nate neutrally.
Nate didn't know how Jake knew that because he was trying to put on a happy front but let out a light sigh. "Yes, something is wrong, but I have to go see my brother. He got himself into some trouble." Nate explains continuing to walk towards the entrance of the school so he could leave.
"Trouble?" Jake replies in a questioning tone, not letting up on leaving Nate alone.
"Yeah...with the police again." Nate replies, now finally exiting the school and heading towards the closest bus stop.
"No...stop." Jake says, holding onto Nate's wrist to stop him from walking.
Nate stopped walking and turned his head to look back at Jake seriously, asking "what is it Jake?" Jake pointed to a car that wasn't too far in the distance. "A car...wait...is that your car?" Nate questions, looking at Jake surprised.
Jake nodded, then saying "I drive you" walking towards his car, pulling out his car keys, clicking the button to unlock his car.
Nate was still surprised and questioned "how did...your car get here...was it always here, what the heck Jake?" Nate asks in suspicion. He knew Jake had slept over at his house the night before, so there was no way Jake could have drove himself to school because he was with him.
As both boys got into the car, Jake sat into the drivers seat as Nate sat into the passengers seat. Nate continued to look at Jake for an explanation, and Jake could tell what Nate was waiting for. "Too...much...explanation..." Jake says, putting his keys into the car and starting it up.
Nate huffed, wanting an explanation from Jake, but knew he wasn't going to get Jake to even speak a proper sentence to him. What Nate did learn about Jake though, coming from this whole experience was that Jake was an amazing observer and could read people extremely well.
Back in the classroom, Lucas looked at both Ethan and Carter and smiled. "Guess what that means? We have more time to hang out with one another!" Lucas says which both boys didn't seem too enthusiastic about.
"Come on you guys, you both need to put up with one another at one point. You're both project partners here, so why not get to know one another a little bit."Lucas says, standing up and swinging his backpack over one shoulder.
Carter stared at Lucas for a couple seconds before letting out a deep sigh. "Fine, what do I have to loose?" He says out loud to himself, standing up as well and putting his backpack on.
Ethan saw both boys agreeing and had a bad feeling in his stomach, not wanting both boys to go to his house, but he knew he had no choice in the matter. He knew Lucas was the type of person to get what he wants, and right now, he wanted to go to his house.
Ethan hesitantly and slowly stood up as well, slowly putting his backpack on his back as an agreement that he was also coming along. "That's the spirit Ethan!" Lucas says, wrapping his arm around Lucas' shoulders and guiding them to the door to leave the classroom.
Once the three boys left the classroom, the only people left were Kevin and Jackson. An awkward silence was left between the two boys before Kevin questions "can I come see where you work?"
"You what-!?" Jackson asks, almost choking on his own words.
"Yeah, I want to come and see where you work. I already know you do drag, and what you look like when you do drag. So can I come and see you tonight, if you are working tonight?" Kevin questions in a cheeky grin.
Jackson looked hesitant to let Kevin come. No one in school knew about his drag queen life, let alone he thought he would take that secrete to his grave. Now one of the most popular boys in the school knows and even wants to come and see him perform in person. "Are...you sure you want to come to my work tonight?"
"Yeah...I've never heard of drag queens and that stuff...so why not show me?" Kevin asks and Jackson let out a sigh. "Alright, I guess you can come with me home, wait for me to get ready and we can head there together." Jackson explains, which Kevin looked extremely excited about.
Todd on the other hand was still protecting Ryan with his whole body. "You don't have to worry Todd, I'm alright." Ryan tries to reassure Todd, not wanting him to get so upset towards Max when in reality he wasn't doing anything wrong.
"We should ask Nate if you can switch partners Ryan. Max is definitely too aggressive to be working with someone like you. Someone who is too kind. Ryan looked at Todd a little worried and explains in a stutter "n-no Todd seriously, there is no need for that! Max is very kind to me."
"Max...kind?" Todd repeats, looking back at Ryan confused. "Did Max really hit you that hard?" Todd continues to question.
"No, seriously Todd don't worry about it. If Max does something to me to hurt me, I will tell you...okay?" Ryan says and Todd sighs deeply.
"Fine..." he replies to Ryan, then turning his head to Max, saying "don't be rude to Ryan...okay?"
Max put up both his hands in surrender as he says "yea, whatever."
Todd glared at Max one last time before turning around and walking out of the classroom with Jacob following behind him.
Once the two others left the room, Ryan looked at Max and sighed. "I'm really sorry you had to take the front of that, Max..." Ryan explains, looking at Max in a frown.
"I don't really care...I have some stuff to do so I got to go." Max replies before walking past Ryan and walking out of the classroom.
"But..." Ryan couldn't say anything to Max, he had walked out of the classroom before he could even think about a proper sentence to say. Ryan sighed to himself before leaving the classroom as well and heading home.
As Ryan got home, he opened the door where he heard his mother calling out "Ryan, is that you?"
"Yes it's me mom." Ryan calls back while taking off his shoes at the front door.
"Can you come into the dining room, we have to talk to you." Ryan's mother calls back which made Ryan confused.
"We?" He repeats to himself quietly before walking towards the dining room and seeing his mother sitting at the dining table with the priest.
"I heard you and a 'friend' visited the church party yesterday." His mother says, looking at Ryan seriously.
