Chapter 12
Carter was downing beers, practically drunk halfway through the night. Anyone could visibly see that Carter was drunk. Carter was trying to pounce on every girl in sight. Even though they all accepted it, he ended up in the basement of the house at one point. The only place in the house that no one was in.
Carter practically fell down the stairs as he hit the cold pavement ground of the basement floor. He groaned slightly as he rubbed the side of his head, slowly standing up as he tried touching the walls to guide him since it was so dark inside the room. It was so dark, he couldn't even see his hand if he put it in front of his face.
Once Carter finally found a switch, he turned it on to see that the basement was kind of like another version of the upstairs, but more dusty because it looked like no one went down there. He walked around, observing almost everything.
Carter stumbled across a couple bookshelves where it looked like photo albums were inside. He grabbed one not really thinking about it and opened it up. He walked back as he reached a couch and sat down on it as he placed the album inside his lap and started looking through the pictures.
Carter smiled seeing all the pictures that were in the photo album but couldn't help but have the horrible feeling in the pit of his stomach. Seeing the pictures of Kevin's family altogether, smiling and laughing in the pictures. Kevin looked like his mother, with his fathers eyes.
"Who do I look like...my mom or my dad?" Carter thought to himself, skimming through the pictures before getting angry.
Seeing how happy Kevin's family was in these pictures made him mad about himself and his own 'family.' "Why does everyone else get a family and I don't, THIS ISN'T FAIR!" Carter shouts, throwing the photo album across the room, having it hit the wall across from him before it fell onto the ground.
Carter watched the photo album hit the ground as he started to tear up, running his fingers through his hair. "This isn't fair, I want a family...I want to be loved..." Carter says to himself, starting to cry some more now, wiping his tears away from underneath his eyes but they kept coming.
Ethan on the other hand had just gotten to the party. He didn't want to come, but Lucas had picked him up from his house and dragged him all the way there. Lucas left him at the front door, saying that he was going to get a drink in the kitchen.
Ethan walked into the house, people instantly giving him weird looks for being there. Ethan did stand out considering he was the only one wearing all black, looking so out of place, it wasn't funny. He kept his head down, looking around the house for somewhere, anywhere to hide.
Ethan looked around, seeing a door underneath the huge spiral staircase that led to the upstairs. Ethan took a glance around the room, seeing if anyone was looking but it seemed that everyone else was too caught up in their own world to even notice him. Ethan was use to being ignored, and at times like this he didn't mind it much.
As Ethan entered the room, he saw a light turned on at the bottom of the staircase. He figured someone was down there and didn't want to go anymore, but for some reason his curiosity was still leading the way.
As Ethan finally hit the bottom floor, he continued to walk to where he could hear the faint noise coming from. He walked closer to the noise where he saw Carter crying while sitting on the couch. This time Ethan wasn't so much scared to see Carter, he was more concerned. This is the second time he's been unintentionally alone with Carter one on one, and every time, Carter was crying.
"Are...you okay Carter?" Ethan questions, walking up to Carter, he could see that Carter was visibly drunk and wasn't in his own state of mind right now.
Carter looked up when he heard someone call out his name with tears in his eyes. His vision was blurry because of the tears, but he didn't care much. Carter didn't even know it was Ethan talking to him right now, he thought it was some random person from the orphanage. His mind was playing tricks on him.
Carter took another sip of the beer he had which he had placed not too far away from him before looking at Ethan. "Y-You here to pick me up to bring me home? I don't want to go back to that place, that place isn't my home!" Carter says, wiping the tears under his eyes before looking up at the ceiling, breathing heavily.
"Carter, I don't know where you live...I was just asking if you're okay." Ethan says, now standing in front of Carter with a concerned expression on his face.
"Leave me alone, I don't...want to go back there. Let me just...let me just die. That's what my parents probably wanted, ha ha, yeah that's why they left me...that's why they don't want me." Carter says, now standing up as he took another sip of his beer before throwing the can onto the ground and starting to walk.
Ethan could now tell Carter didn't know who he was, thinking he was someone else. "What does Carter mean by that?" Ethan thought to himself. He stopped Carter from walking by grabbing his arm. "Carter don't go and do anything" Ethan says, looking at Carter seriously. He knew he was being a hypocrite in this time, but he knew the pain Carter was feeling, and he didn't want anyone feeling the same way he does.
"L-Leave me alone, no one wants me...no one has ever loved me." Carter says, shaking Ethan's grip off of him in anger, wiping the tears away from underneath his eyes. "No one cares. I always try, I try so hard to leave an impression on people so everyone wants me in their life. I don't want to be alone, I don't want to be left behind..." Carter says, pushing past Ethan as he ran up the stairs and left the house.
"CARTER, WAIT!" Ethan calls out turning around and instantly chasing after Carter, scared about what he was going to do to himself.
Meanwhile with Ryan and Max upstairs, Max was downing so much alcohol, Ryan thought Max was going to get alcohol poisoning. Yet again Ryan himself had a couple drinks as well. Considering this was the first time Ryan had ever drank, he figured out he was a light weight. He couldn't hold his alcohol very well.
Max walked up to Ryan in the middle of his fifth shot, supporting himself to stand once he reached Ryan by grabbing a hold onto one of Ryan's shoulders. "R-Ryan, want to get out of this place?" Max questions, looking at Ryan with a mischievous smirk on his face.
"Sure...but where would we go?"
"Let's go to that party you were talking about earlier." Max suggests, sounding interested about it all of the sudden.
"You mean the church party?" Ryan asks, looking at Max questioningly.
"Ye-yeah that one" Max says, pointing at Ryan like he had just remembered when Ryan brought it up.
"I don't think it's a good idea Max, you're totally wasted..." Ryan says, looking at Max concerned. Even though Ryan was slightly tipsy, even he could tell it was a bad idea to go.
"Oh come on, stop being a downer and let's fucking go!" Max demands, sounding like he was getting angry that Ryan was now contemplating going.
Ryan could tell Max was getting angry. He knew how scary it was when Max was angry while sober, he didn't know what Max was like when he angry drunk. "O-Okay we'll go but we can't stay there for long, okay?" Ryan asks and Max instantly smiled when he heard Ryan agree with him.
"Great, let's go" Max says, already walking out of the kitchen to walk to the front door so they could leave the house.
Nate on the other hand was in the living room, bobbing himself to the music that was playing even though he didn't even know the song that was playing, or even liked the genre of music. He wanted to seem like he was blending in with everyone else.
Nate looked around the living room he was bobbing in, he was short and could barley see over the heads of everyone else who was either making out around him or dancing. "Damn it, why are my short genes such a disadvantage even at a party?!" Nate questions before squirming through people.
Nate managed to make his way towards the front door. He didn't want to leave the party, but parties were boring if your friends weren't there. He didn't want to leave the party without telling Jake either. He went with Jake, he felt that Jake should know if he was leaving.
No matter how much Nate was trying to see with his limited amount of height, he couldn't find Jake. He ended up leaving through the front door, taking in a breath of fresh air as he opened the door. Inside it mostly smelt like sweat, weed and alcohol which made Nate almost nauseous.
As Nate was walking down the steps of the house, he looked to aside seeing Jake who was standing beside a huge tree. A smile spread across Nate's face seeing Jake and ran up to him, almost in a skipping sort of way.
"Where were you in there, I was looking for you everywhere?!" Nate asks in a chuckle as he finally stood in front of Jake, staring up at him with the same smile on his face.
"Parties... don't like..." Jake answers in his limited vocabulary.
"You don't like parties?! How can you not like parties Jake, you're always going to them!"
"Loud..."
"Oh, you don't like loud places..huh.. then I know just the place we should go!" Nate says already starting to walk away, expecting Jake to follow him but Jake didn't move an inch. When Nate looked back to see why Jake wasn't following him, he questions "aren't you coming?"
"Leaving?"
"Yes, we're leaving!" Nate chuckles, walking back up to Jake as he grabbed a hold of Jakes hand and started leading the way, dragging Jake behind him. "The night is still early, we shouldn't waste it."
Jacob had stormed all the way home, when he did get home his mother was in the middle of making a warm dinner. "Oh hunny, you're already home? I thought you and your club friends were going out for some fun tonight?" His mother asks, still having her oven mitts on.
"I'm not in that stupid club mom, and I didn't want to stay there..." Jacob spat, not intending to sound rude, but he was already in a bad mood, he just wanted to lock himself in his bedroom and hide away from everyone.
"Aw hunny I'm sorry... do you want to talk about it?" Jacob's mother asks, looking at Jacob in concern as she took her oven mitts off and held open her arms in front of Jacob.
Jacob stared at his mother for a second before bursting out into tears and running into her arms, hugging her tightly. "My baby, please don't cry." She says in a comforting tone, rubbing Jacob's back while trying to calm him down.
Jacob's mother led him into the living room where she sat him down on the couch, sitting down next to him. "Now tell me what's wrong." She questions, looking at Jacob seriously.
"Mom..." Jacob starts with saying clearing his throat before asking "have you ever been in love?"
"Of course hunny, with your father."
Jacob looked at his mother with a dull expression on his face, expecting her to know what he was talking about. She looked back at him before letting out a light sigh. "Fine, fine, yes there has been others before your father who have stolen my heart, why?"
"Have you ever liked someone...but learned that you can never be with them?"
"What do you mean Jacob?" His mother asks, looking at him a little more seriously.
"Well I like this guy-" Jacob says without thinking about it, quickly covering his mouth after saying 'guy.' His heart was beating fast, looking at his mother concerned and scared emotions mixed in his eyes.
"Are you gay, hunny?"
"I-uh-no..."
"Bisexual?"
"Mom- I don't know what I am..." Jacob admits, glancing at his mother before looking down into his lap and playing with his fingers.
His mother chuckled before asking "so you have a crush on this boy, yes?"
"Well...I like him, but he's totally out of my league and I think he's straight. There's always rumours about him doing it with a different girl every week, and he's always visibly making out with a different girl, or has a different girl wrapped around his arm everyday."
"Then why do you like this guy, Jacob?!"
Jacob groaned, pulling on his fingers, explaining "I don't know, he just made me feel...special, I don't know. The way he would talk to me, and the way he would look at me. It made me feel all tingly inside." Jacob says, pointing to his stomach.
Jacob's mother smiled, explaining "those are called butterflies in your stomach sweety. It means you love him."
"Ugh-!" Jacob groans louder, leaning back into the couch as he looked up at the ceiling.
"Hunny, he's not out of your league."
"You don't even know what he looks like mom."
"I may not know what he looks like, but I know that what's on the inside matters more than what's on the outside. If you want to be special and grab his attention from all the girls, you have to do something special." She explains, poking Jacob's shoulder in the middle of her explanation.
"Something special...like what?"
"Like anything, figure out something special about you and work it!" She explains in a chuckle.
Jacob looked down, thinking about it for a bit before slowly nodding. "Okay, thanks mom." Jacob says, now starting to slowly smile again.
"Good, now get up and wash your hands. Your dads going to be home any minute now and dinner is almost ready."
Jacob nodded, instantly standing up and about to walk away until his mother called out to him again. "Oh wait, Jacob." Jacob turned his head, looking over his shoulder to see what his mother wanted and she says "don't tell your father this, but before him I was in a relationship with a woman." She says, then putting her finger over her lips for Jacob to keep it a secrete.
Jacob smiled hearing that and nodded before turning around and running to the washroom so he could wash his hands and help set dinner up.

I hate updating on my phone because sometimes it randomly deletes things I already wrote and it's very annoying. I appreciate that you're all being very patient with the updates, thank you for reading. Next chapter will continue with the same night. Who do you want to see in the next chapter ?
