I stared down at my sandwich, the loud bustle of cafeteria noise bothering me.

"Not hitting the books in the library anymore?" I hear a familiar lilting voice say, a high pitched tone marking the end of her sentence.

"No, I'm here instead. Shocking isn't it?" I reply, turning my head to look at the red headed beauty standing next to me. Behind her thick yellow framed glasses and large Star Wars shirt she really was model worthy, not to mention my best friend.

"Yeah. Did you ever decide to get that Advanced Physics book for me? I told you I needed it." She slid into the seat next to me and started spooning Mac n Cheese into her mouth, slightly distracted by the food.

"Oops. Sorry, I guess I was a bit distracted," I apologised. She had been banned from the library because of a fight with a jock that had occurred last month and resulted in books ripping. As you can guess, she's a tad bit eccentric...in the good way.

"So..." She began.

"What?"

"I heard you have several classes with Logan?" Zoe smiled at my surprised reaction.

"Yeah, he's a pain in the-"

Zoe looked at me curiously.

"Butt" I finished lamely. She sighed.

"I thought he would rub off on you," Zoe laughed and scraped up the remains of her pasta.

"Obviously not." I chuckled back. I got up with my half-eaten sandwich and deposited it neatly into the bin.

"Hey I have something to tell you," Zoe said thoughtfully. Her face was scrunched up, something she did when she was upset and she shuffled her feet on the floor.

"Sorry but can it wait? I've got to talk with the counselor first for some weird reason." I waved at her, feeling the guilt sink into my chest as I made to head off down the corridor.

"Yeah," I hear her say softly to my receding back.

I glance back into the empty hallway for a minute before opening the door of the counselors' office and sinking into the sofa. I hear the door closing shut behind me and see Mr. Redford make his way to his desk.

"Hello, Clara!" Mr.Redford grins at me with all of the joy he can muster (which to be honest, was not much.  Being a high school counselor must be draining.)

"Um...Hi...Why did you call me here?" I asked. I fidgeted slightly with my hands and watched as his eyes caught onto them. He noticed everything, but I guess that was his job. I pressed my fingertips together.

"I was wondering how you are doing, your progress at school...things like that, especially about the problems I've heard about from last year" He answered rubbing his long blonde goatee and settling down into his seat, crossing his legs in that way that grown up men always tend to do.

"It's been fine," I answered shortly.  My fingers were losing a bit of feeling at the tips.  I separated them.

"How are your grades? Top notch as usual?" He laughed at that and I nodded, tilting my head to the side. My report card was usually riddled with A+'s and so I wasn't really worried about academics that much. I never really worried about anything anyways, as long as the bullies didn't beat me up and I wasn't in any major trouble.  I really shouldn't have even been called here. Last year had past and it was nothing, right?

"How's life in general? Friends?" He asked.

Yeah, like I have any.

"I have Zoe and I like school," I answered simply, yet suggesting with my voice that I desperately wanted the meeting to end soon.

"Nice to hear it, you can go now, Clara. And if you have any problems feel free to swing by for some advice!" He waved at me and gave me a feeble smile as I backed out of the door and headed off to my next class.

It was such a waste of time to go to these appointments with Mr. Redford. It never helped anything.  School counselors hadn't helped last year either so there was simply no reason for them to help this year.

Lost in my thoughts I get knocked on the shoulder again by a figure with a fitted grey v neck shirt on, probably the same person who I had bumped into last time on my way out of my first-period class. I keep on walking but for some miraculous reason I tripped on a sneaker and was sent sprawling to the ground.

"Ouch!" I exclaimed and twisted my head to look at the tripper.

My eyes locked into familiar grey green ones. Logan. He looked down at me and brought out a hand for me to pull myself up. I noticed now in the fluorescent lights that his eyes, slanted but large, had flecks of brown in them. That's not fair! 3 eye colours in one eye? I only had one colour, and a plain brown at that. Oh well. We aren't all good looking are we?

I touched his hand briefly and shook it away as soon as I had gotten up. No uttered sorry? Oh come on! I knew his reputation but at least a word of concern would be acceptable. Instead, he regarded me with those eyes again and turned away, shaking his head and muttering something that sounded like "Klutz".

"Clara! Are you okay? Did Mr. Bad - um...did he trip you?" Zoe ran swiftly to me, her long wavy red hair following behind her. She pointed at Logan and gave him a death stare, childish in her posture.

"I'm fine." I said examining my hands and rubbing them back and forth to get rid of the dust and grit stuck to my red palm.

"Hey you! Listen to me, say sorry to her!" Zoe commanded him. Logan just shook his head matter of factly and smirked. Zoe's face turned redder.

"She ran over my foot. She should say sorry." He stated and I could see his lips twitching into a smile at the corners.  He seemed to find joy in other's anger.  The more angry or annoyed they were, the more fun he had.  Logan ran a hand through his hair and chuckled.

"God! SAY SORRY you useless piece of a person!" Zoe shouted at him. I grabbed her arm. Zoe in mad mode? Not a good idea. No one provoked my best friend and got away with it.  Alive, I meant.

Logan shrugged. "She also hit my shoulder first." People were starting to crowd around us. I tugged on Zoe's arm and gestured for her to start moving. She stayed stock still, staring through slitted eyes at Logan. My own watered slightly, so under pressure with everyone looking at us.

"IT'S YOUR FAULT! YOU HIT HER SHOULDER AND YOU TRIPPED HER, YOU MORON!" She yelled at him. Zoe had clenched her hands into fists by her sides, seemingly forgetting that I was about to break down in fits of anxiety.

"Whatever you say," Logan turned to go but not before her fist came flying out of nowhere, hitting him squarely in the jaw. He flinched but turned away and resumed walking.

"Zoe! Apologize." I muttered quietly. That bruise looked bad and I didn't like to see people hurt.  My hands shook at my side and I clamped them shut to stop the shaking.

"No. He deserved it." Zoe nursed her hand in her armpit and walked away muttering curse words. Not wanting to have a problem with Logan I yelled after him in a shaky voice.

"Sorry! She didn't mean it!"

Logan turned back and started walking backwards, one corner of his mouth tipped up in that signature, swooning smile. "Of course she meant it, I am a moron. But cut me some slack eh? Look at this face." He pouted out his lips teasingly before he turned away, blowing me a little kiss as he went.
