Chapter 12 || Disgrace

⚠️ warning; domestic violence ⚠️

"tell them i'm busy." taehyung sighs, shaking his head as he enters his office. the secretary bows before taking his leave, and now it's only taehyung left. he loosens the tie around his neck, sitting on his revolving chair, facing the big glass wall from where he can see a large view of seoul.

it's night and the lights are glowing, competiting with the moon. but they know their place. with another deep sigh, taehyung leans back to pick up his phone after a whole day of meetings and closing important deals, now is the time he actually is free enough to take a look at his phone. there's not a single missed call from anybody, no texts either. not even from his fiancé.

he opens the chat with her. they never really had a conversation on text, since aria didn't usually reply. she's not a texting person, which explains why the chat looks dry and uninterested from her side. taehyung has an idea that she's naturally shy and introverted, and this marriage probably wasn't her choice, but now that it is happening, he just wants to make her happy. she's beautiful inside out and it would be a lie if he said he hasn't already fallen in love with her.

from the very first day that he was shown a picture of the girl his parents had found for him, he couldn't help but agree to meet her. at the first meeting she barely even looked at him, let alone talking to him, which for some reason made taehyung want to break through her shells and get her in a comfortable sphere where she wouldn't fear him like she might do to others.

jimin has been his friend for a long time now, and from what taehyung has heard from him, their father is pretty hardcore when it comes to his daughter being a good girl for their family's reputation. despite being friends since high school, taehyung and jimin never really visited each other's houses nor did they ever try to meet one another's families to avoid any drama between two big statuses.

when the marriage proposal was passed, taehyung had thought that jimin wouldn't like it, but it eventually turned out with him actually being okay with it as long as he knew taehyung would treat his sister right. taehyung promises he will keep her happy, fulfill all her wishes and make sure that she knows how much he loves her. the wedding day and the life after, already makes taehyung smile and wish for it to arrive as soon as it can. he wonders sometimes if aria is as excited as him for the big day.

he calls on her phone, waiting patiently for the ringing to end and be replaced by the voice of the most beautiful girl on earth. maybe he's exaggerating, but maybe he's not? to him, it's the truth and his brother would agree too. jungkook has also confessed a few times that aria is the prettiest girl he has since in his life, and taehyung feels proud about it.

the ringing ends, but the voice replacing it is a computerized one that says the number he's trying to reach is switched off. that makes taehyung frown in confusion, trying again, but it ends the same way. he wants to try again, but doesn't, convincing himself that she might be busy or running out of battery. so, he gives up and calls jimin instead, hoping he wouldn't be too occupied to get a drink with him.

jimin answers the call, but it's full of shuffling noises, talking and giggles, making taehyung chuckle in surprise, "where are you?" he asks.

"ah just brought yoona and her little sister out for dinner. she came back from her parents' today."

"oh okay, have fun. i just called to ask if you were free."

"sorry, not right now." jimin says, "i hope it wasn't anything important?"

"nah, don't worry. anyway, see you later. bye."

"yeah,"

this call ends too, but it doesn't leave taehyung upset. if anything, he imagines himself going out for dinner dates with aria after marriage, and he catches himself smiling again. shaking his head, he stands up, checking the time before making his way out of the office. he'd like a drink right now, and for that he's going to a bar. it's usually jimin or jungkook who accompany him, but since jimin is busy and jungkook is overseas for some work, taehyung doesn't mind being alone for the night.

"did you have fun?" yoona asks her sister, holding her hand as they walk inside the mansion.

yumi nods eagerly, grinning up at yoona and jimin, "yes! i enjoyed a lot. the food was so yummy!"

"we'll go there more often then." jimin says with a smile, patting the kid's back.

"really? i wan—"

"jimin?" mrs. park heads down the stairs hurriedly, looking disturbed with something and for a moment it pinches jimin's heart, for he knows what's about to come now. suddenly he regrets bringing yoona home today.

"where's your sister?!" she walks up to jimin, ignoring everything else and holds his arm, "she's not in her room, jimin. she ran away! do you have any idea where she went?"

"what?" yoona frowns. "she must be—"

"you don't know anything! weren't you busy having fun at your parents' house, ignoring your husband and everything here?! my daughter is nowhere to be found an—"

"mom." jimin raises his voice. "it's not her fault. you won't talk to my wife like that." he declares and turns to yoona, glancing at the little sister as well, who looks confused and scared. "take her upstairs."

"jimin," yoona shakes her head subtly, telling him not to talk to his mother like that.

"go. i'll handle it here." he assures.

"see, what you've done?!" mrs. park glares at yoona, "my son never talked to me that way. but ever since you've joined the family, he—"

"stop it, mom! enough!" jimin heaves out, "yoona, i'm saying it for lovie, take her upstairs."

yoona nods slowly, taking her sister upstairs with her, leaving jimin and his mother alone. he faces the woman, massaging his temples and holds his free hand up, "please talk calmly. i don't wish to shout." he says, getting a gradual nod from mrs. park. "yeah, now, what happened?"

"aria ran away. find her, jimin. if your dad comes to know, he's gonna be so mad at me."

jimin eyes soften for a moment, looking down and nods, hugging his mother, "if he says something, you're going to tell me, okay? anything he does or says."

she hums and pulls away, looking at him, "i am so done with your sister. where did she even get the nerve to run away from? you know her the best, tell me, she can't do something like that, can she?  it's definitely some guy whom she's been seeing behind our backs. shameful. what are we gonna tell the kims? that our daughter ran away two weeks before her wedding? forget them, i'm foremost scared of what your father will do..."

jimin hums, clearing his throat, "i'll look into it." is all he says, pulling out his phone and heads upstairs, not waiting for anything else. although he doesn't make a call or anything, and just goes back to his wife.

"what happened? where is aria? is she okay?" yoona asks worriedly.

"i don't know." he lies, looking away and sighs, "where's lovie?"

"bathroom." yoona lets out, standing beside jimin and rubs his arm gently, "talk to me, jimin. what happened?"

"aria ran away." he says briefly. "that's why mom was behaving like that."

"it's okay, i understand." she says, "did you tell anyone to look for her, yet? i think she shouldn't have gone too far. you should send someone for her, what if she needs help? and what if she—"

"yeah, i have. don't worry. she'll be okay." he says, taking off his jacket and sits on the bed.

the bathroom door opens and yumi comes, hugging the dress she was wearing earlier now changed into a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. her smile from a few minutes ago is gone, and in place of it is a pout as she hands her clothes to her sister, before sitting beside jimin. "why was your mom talking to my unnie like that?" she asks, gulping nervously. "you said you take care of her, but your mom is so rude. she said mean things to my unnie."

"i'm sorry." jimin hushes out.

"lovie, it's not like that. she was in a bad mood today." yoona says with a smile, trying to sound as convincing as she can, but yumi doesn't listen. "uh, just c'mere now. i'll show you your room, so you can sleep there, alright? we'll talk tomorrow."

"but, oppa—"

"oppa's tired, lovie. let him rest now."

"it's okay." jimin lets out, smiling softly and opens his arm for yumi, nodding her to sit with him. yumi makes her way back to him quickly, this time sitting on his lap rather than the bed. "i didn't want to make you upset, oppa. you're nice, you scolded your mom for my unnie. but i don't like your mom. i won't call her mom."

jimin chuckles sadly, nodding as he stares at yumi's cute little hands holding his, "do as you wish. she's a little moody, and i apologise for that." he says, "no matter what she says about your unnie, know that i love her way more than i can say out loud. you might not be aware of this, kiddo, but your sister is the reason i stay here. she likes this mansion, says it feels like home with me."

yoona smiles softly at that, sitting beside him and hugs his arm. "i love you," she whispers.

"i love you more, always forever." jimin lets out, leaning towards her to kiss her lips, which makes yumi squeal and shut her eyes.

"ew!" her little scrunches up, making the couple laugh. "why do you do that in front of me?"

"why not? she's my wife and i love her. there's nothing wrong with kissing my wife now, is it?"

"no, but in front of people?"

"sure." jimin chuckles.

"okay, enough." yoona shakes her head and stands up. "you have only a few more minutes. when i come back after taking a shower, you're going to your room and sleep like a good girl."

"fine." yumi sighs dramatically, making jimin smile. "please take a lot of minutes."

"yeah, please do." jimin plays along, "me and lovie need to talk more."

"and play." the kid adds, standing up from his lap and holds his hands, making him stand too.

"we'll play tomorrow. let's sit and talk for now? i'm actually tired today."

"okay." she nods, "can i sit on your lap again? my dad never let me sit on his lap, but my friend in school always sits on her dad's lap and said he's so nice. he's like the dad in the movies."

jimin's eyes soften, suddenly remembering his own sister and nods, bringing yumi to sit on his lap again, hugging her smaller body, "you're precious, lovie. even if your parents don't tell you that, always know that you're a star and you gotta shine bright."

"how?"

"well, for now, since you're still very young, i'd say study well. make a lot of friends and be good to people you meet." he says.

"i do that!" she smiles widely, turning her head to look at jimin's face, "my teacher said that yumi is a good girl because i helped a puppy in the playground."

"really? that's something admirable." jimin smiles, leaning back against the header of the bed and brings her to lay down, "do you wanna hear a story?"

"yes! i love stories!"

"alright, then." he sighs softly, staring at the ceiling, "a few years back, there was a little princess. she was very happy as a child, and liked to play around with her brother, have fun and do eveything that her brother did. but her parents, the king and the queen, didn't like that. they thought she'd get spoiled if she played outside, or did things like her brother. so, they started keeping her inside their palace, get her everything in her room, have servants and everything for her, except for freedom." he gulps, tears blurring his eyes, so he closes them and continues.

"the palace was very pretty, but it meant nothing to the princess. she wanted to go out and explore the world at her own pace. her brother grew up with everything she wished for. he had many memories in the palace, in their play area, pool, outside, everywhere. but the princess knew nothing outside of her own room and the palace. she was only allowed to go out twice a month with guards and or her brother."

"that's sad. i feel so bad for the princess." yumi pouts.

"me too." jimin hums, clearing his throat before continuing the story forward. "as the princess grew up and went out to college, she met a prince—"

"a prince?" yumi smiles, "is he a good prince? he's gonna take the princess away and they live happily everafter?"

"listen to the story, lovie." jimin chuckles.

"oops, sorry." she giggles nervously.

"the prince became friends with the princess and they eventually fell in love. but one day the king and queen told the princess that she was going to get married with someone else." jimin hates how the story's going now. how his sister had to be this princess.

"what? no!"

"she said that too. she cried to her parents, faught them, and did everything she could to stop them. but they didn't listen to her. she still kept seeing the prince without anyone knowing, because if they came to know, they'd super mad at her. as the wedding day came nearer, the prince and the princess decided that they would leave everything and just go away to spend a better life together."

"did they leave then?"

"they did."

"and they're happy now?"

"hopefully." jimin hums, blinking his tears away, "do you wanna know who was the other guy, the one who was going to marry the princess?"

yumi nods and jimin smiles sadly, patting her head, "he was the prince's elder brother."

"what?! that's so messed up, oppa." yumi sits up with a frown, "i want the princess to go with the prince. elder brother can find someone else."

"you think so?" jimin asks, smiling a little as yumi nods her head confidently. "it's like you got a lot of experience."

"yes, i do. i've heard a lot of stories." she says proudly. "i'm really good at giving advice."

"yeah? then do you have something to say to the princess's brother?"

"oh, yes." she leans forward, resting her hand on jimin's chest to lean closer to his side, "he should help the princess, and if the king and queen say something— because they're bad, he should scold them."

"alright." jimin hums, "thank you for the advice."

"no problem." she giggles, "i gave you advice for the princess's brother, now you promise me oppa, that you will play with me tomorrow."

"promise." jimin chuckles. "do you wanna sleep now?"

"yes. but i need cuddles to fall asleep."

"i've heard from your unnie that i give the best cuddles." he whispers, making yumi laugh playfully and snuggle closer to him, making him chuckle and kiss the side of her head, "sleep well, little princess." he sighs softly, hoping that aria too, is sleeping well in jeju with jungkook.

"i want my daughter back within two days. i don't care how you get her, just do it." mr park growls in anger to the line of men standing before him. "and make sure nobody else gets to know about it."

"yes, sir."

mr park nods firmly, dismissing them all, and turns to his wife with a glare, "and you, maeve. you couldn't even look after your daughter?! that girl just fucking ran away from the mansion! what face are we we going to show to the kims?!" he yells, taking a large step forward and grasps his wife's face harshly, making her look up. "i never wanted a daughter. but you, brain dead woman, gave birth to her and today she's being nothing more than a disgrace to my name!"

yoona gulps, staring at the couple from the corner and turns away quickly, going upstairs to her and jimin's room, waking him up, "jimin,"

"hm," he just stirs in sleep, not waing up until yoona shakes him again with a panicked voice, "yeah?" he opens his eyes, catching on with the worry written on her face and sits up, frowning in confusion. "what's wrong?"

"dad is home. he's mad about ari running away."

jimin releases a breath, shaking his head and gets up quickly, glancing back at yumi who still holds onto the sleeve of his shirt. he frees himself carefully not to wake her up and heads downstairs with yoona, jogging up to the man who is about to hit his mother. "dad!" he yells in time to stop him, and pulls mrs park behind himself.

"stay out of it, son." mr. park sighs, "i've sent in my men to look for aria. they'll keep updating you with everything. right now, i have to deal with this woman."

"this woman is your wife, do not forget that." jimin glares at his father. "just talk calmly, dad. it's not that hard."

"jimin, go back, honey. i'm fine." the mother says.

"no. he's not laying a finger on you." jimin cracks his neck, turning to his father. "look, i get you're mad. but just think with a cool mind. and— i don't understand why you're even reacting like that. we all know ari didn't want this marriage. you guys forced her into it, now she ran away."

"are you defending her?" mr. park frowns.

"yes." jimin nods, "she's my sister and the daughter of this family. but you never loved her, and now that she's capable enough, she left this hell sort of place. i'm not even surprised she left, dad. if i were her, i'd do it too." he scoffs, leaving the parents stunned and speechless, "before you pull up any kind of drama again, both of you, just remind yourself that you are the reason ari left us. and dad, you won't hurt mom. if i see it happening again, i'm not even sure how i'll react." he warns, turning around and glances at his mother, briefly checking she wasn't hurt, before taking his wife's hand and leaves.

"two should just die." jimin mutters under his breath.

"don't say that, jimin." yoona says softly, rubbing his back. "they're just stressed. i'm sure dad didn't mean to hurt mom."

jimin stops on his tracks, facing yoona with a frown and holds her by her shoulders, "what did you say?"

"huh?" she blinks a few times.

"what did you just say? say it again."

"uh dad... he didn't mean to hurt mom?"

"he didn't mean to hurt mom, huh? you saw how he was holding her, right? he was going to hit her, yoona! for god's sake that's not okay! you woke me up all worried, why? because you know what he could do... why are you..." he shakes his head, massaging his temples.

"please, baby, i want you to know that even if he's her husband what he was doing was wrong. even if i, yoona, as your husband, if i do something like that, you have every right to stop me, yell at me, curse at me, fucking divorce me. if i ever hurt you, god kill for me this one, but please don't ever tell yourself that i love you and it was just my anger and bullshit. when a man really loves someone, he wouldn't ever, i repeat ever do anything to hurt them. and when i say i love you, it means that i want all your pain and give you all of my happiness, understand that?"

yoona nods slowly, hugging him tightly, and he hugs her back, kissing the top of her head. "did your dad ever hit your mom too?" he asks.

"yes." she mumbles. "in front of me. in front of lovie..."

"i'm sorry." jimin hushes out, patting her back, "i'm sorry that the men in your lives didn't know how to treat a woman."
