✴️10. Coup de Foudre✴️

French for "Love at first sight"

Luna James

I squinted my eyes at the harsh morning light peeking through the layer of moss green curtains and groaned.  My head pounded and ached.  I sat up and stretched in the enormous California king bed and my breath caught in my throat.  This wasn't my bed, those weren't my curtains, and I was wearing a large t-shirt.  I scanned the room for my dress while simultaneously trying to wake myself up fully and rub the sleep from my eyes.

I couldn't find my dress anywhere from the bed.  My head throbbed with every crane of my neck.  I flopped back down on the foreign bed.  "What have I done?" I groaned to myself.  The last thing I could remember was the club Callum took me to.  The music was blasting so loud that we had to shout to be heard no matter how close we were.

"Do you want to dance?" Callum had shouted over my shoulder, his arm around my waist to keep me close.

"What?" I had to turn my head to hear him.

"Dance!" He laughed.  "Do you want to dance?"

I smiled up at him and spun around on my heel to put on hand on his chest.  "Let's go." I pulled him by his tie to the dancefloor with my drink in my free hand.  I had no idea what he'd ordered me, but it tasted like pineapple and didn't have any burning sensation which I loved.

In no time the drink was gone and I was rubbing against my date in a sea of people.  My hands wove around his neck as he stood behind me with his hands on my hips.  We weren't as overly dressed as I originally thought we were.   Most others around us were clad in similar fashion with beautiful dresses and suits.  I could feel his body tense up whenever I'd drop lower and bring myself back up, I wasn't blind to his growing excitement that pressed into my back.

It made me smirk to think I could get him so flustered with just a dance.  A waitress walked by with a tray of drinks in her hand and Callum snapped his fingers at her.  He handed her up the glass I had emptied and gestured for her to get us another.  The music ended and before another song could start, Callum twirled me back around to face him.  His strong hands gripped my forearms and brought me flush against him.  His minty breath bounced off my cheek as he leaned in. "Careful there, lass." He growled lowly in my ear and made me shiver at the soft brush of his words on my lobe.  "You don't want to start something you can't finish."

My brain wouldn't let me think clearly.  My thong was still in place thankfully, but then again it could have just been put back on.  Thoughts swam through my head of what I'd done, or may have done last night.  Before I could completely collect myself the door opened.

"Good morning sunshine."  Callum strode into the room wearing nothing but a towel wrapped lowly over his waist.  A deep V started in his lower abdomen and disappeared within the white cotton material.  His golden hair was wild and glistening wet from his shower. I swallowed hard at the sight of his chiseled abs covered in beads of water.  They trailed down his tattooed torso in slow rivulets.  A few drops had begun to pool around his feet the longer he stood there.  "What is it you Americans say? A picture may last longer?" My eyes snapped to his grin and I immediately felt my cheeks flush.

I rubbed my eyes with my hands and moaned in irritation.  "Where am I?" I peeked through my fingers to take in the enormous room once more.  It was immaculately clean with an earth toned theme.  The bedding was thick and warm against my skin and I became increasingly aware of how scantily I was dressed in front of him.  I took the opportunity to pull the covers up around myself.

Callum's laughter echoed in my ears and felt like a percussion band.  "Welcome to my Baton Rouge home for the month." He said opening his arms to show off his place.  He walked past my lethargic form and opened a large wooden wardrobe.  He sifted through hangers until he snatched one out and crossed the room.

"Callum?" I stopped him in his tracks and sat up.  The blankets fell around my legs, but I pushed them away and brought my knees to my chest.  "Did we...did I-" I stuttered out.

"Have amazing sex all night?" He cocked a brow at me and I buried my face in my hands.

"Yes, that." I groaned embarrassed.

His laughter brought my head back up and he plopped down on the bed beside me.  His body was so close to mine and barely clothed.  His grin showed his pearly white teeth, perfect teeth for someone in his profession.

"No.  We didn't." I breathed a sigh of relief.  "Would it have been so bad?" He clapped me on the back at my reaction.

"Sorry, I just am having trouble... remembering." I admitted sheepishly.  "How did I get in this?" I pulled at the fabric of what I could only assume to be his shirt.

"Well," he began, "you had quite a few drinks last night and when we came back to Louisiana, you fell asleep in my lap."

"I fell asleep on your lap?" My eyes bugged out.  "What was I doing in your lap?" I regretted the question as soon as it left my mouth.  Callum's grin grew wide and he inched closer.

"You know, Luna, I'd be careful with your tolerance of liquor.  Someone may not be such a gentleman to you in the future." He spoke low in a raspy voice.

Callum's arms wound around my body.  There was no amount of space between us that we didn't erase with our need to be close to one another.  "We need to get you a water." He purred in my ear as I pressed my backside against him and continued on as if I hadn't heard him.

His erection grew with each shift of my body.  "I'll have a shot of fireball." I said over my shoulder.  His hands roamed my exposed back and came to a rest on my hips, pushing them away and spinning me around to face him.  His eyes were dark and strangely calm.  He looked me up and down while I toyed with his tie, biting my bottom lip seductively.  I knew what I was doing.  "Don't be too long." I leaned forward and bit his earlobe.  "I don't like to wait." I spun away and melted into the crowd.

I could see his face noticeably change into a lustful hunger.  His dark eyes were black as coal and I could visibly see the heat radiating off of him.  I turned my head to the couple dancing ahead of me and when I looked back he was gone.  Only a few seconds passed before a small glass was pressed into my hand.  "As you wished." Callum's gruff Irish accent had me spin to look at him standing behind me.  "Just so you know, I would have been quick regardless.  I wouldn't want a beauty like you to be stolen away from me the second I turn my back." His words slipped into my ears and induced a warmth that flooded to my fingertips.  His own fingers were busying themselves by twirling a lock of my hair.

"Is that so?" I took the shot and wrapped my arms around his broad shoulders, leaning in on my tiptoes.  "Let's get out of here." I whispered sensually, teasing his ear once more with the tip of my tongue.  The alcohol was definitely making me brave.  And wet.

Callum's lips twitched up in the corners as he grabbed my hand and pulled me through the crowd.

The memory came flooding back to me along with a raging headache.  "Get dressed, I'm making breakfast." He tossed a pile of clothes at my face.

I snatched the bundle and examined the familiar blouse and pants.  "When did you get this?  Did you go in my room?" I asked, baffled at the sudden appearance of my clothes.  I was even more confused by how well coordinated the outfit was.

"No, I called the house and had your maid bring it early this morning.  Your dress is at the dry cleaners and I'll have my people drop it by tomorrow." He stood with his suit hung over his shoulder and made his way back to the door.  "I'm making you a hearty breakfast so I hope you're hungry." The door clocked softly behind him, leaving me with my thoughts.

"Thank you." I mumbled to no one.

It took me only a few minutes to throw on the white washed capri jeans and white crop top he'd given me.  I quickly fluffed up my hair and slicked it into a high ponytail before jogging out the door and into the strange hallway.  The cherry wood flooring was covered in a cozy yellow and gray rug that draped all the way down the spiral staircase.  The smell of fried foods filled my nostrils as soon as my bare feet hit the last step.

My eyes were greeted with the sight of Callum shirtless in the kitchen stirring a pot with a spatula.  "As lovely as ever." He beamed when I came into the room.

"Wow.  You made all this?" I looked at the pots and pans on the stove top.

"I like to start the morning of a fight with a traditional Irish breakfast." He began to heap the contents onto two separate dishes and sat them down on the rustic farmhouse table.  I took a seat next to his and looked over the meal.  Many things were familiar, but a few were different looking.

"It smells delicious." I complimented as the steam rose up from my plate.

"It tastes good too." He dove in with a fork and knife and began shoveling the sausages in his mouth.

I politely picked up my own utensils and tasted the meat.  It was salty, more salt than I allowed myself in a day I was sure.  There was no denying how amazing the flavor was though.  "What is all this?" I pointed with my fork.

"Bangers, rashers, black pudding, white pudding, fried eggs, brown soda bread, tomatoes, and boiled potatoes.  It'll fill you up lass, that's for sure." He continued to dig in while I picked like a bird at the savory morsels on my own dish.

"The Irish are quite fond of their starch and protein I see." I giggled lightly.

He smiled warmly at me.  "They are.  But I don't eat this every day.  I eat clean and stick to eating sweet potatoes for the majority of my carb intake.  I can't get away with eating this stuff all the time with my job, especially when I'm training." I nodded and took another bite.  I wanted to devour the plate as fast as I could to get all the flavors in me, but my manners forbid it.

"Do you have to keep up a strict regimen or do you get to cheat a lot?" I inquired while finishing up the last half of the meal.

He pushed his empty plate away from him and stood to cross the room.  He stopped at the fridge and pulled out the familiar pitcher of green juice.  "I wish I could cheat whenever I wanted to, but I can't.  I have to stay fit to keep winning and I can't be in shape if my diet is shit." He poured a glass and chugged it.  "How about you?  You practically drooled when you saw what was for breakfast." He chuckled and leaned back.  His bare torso was decorated in ink and just a few feet away.

I shrugged. "I like to eat healthy and stay fit for myself, so I suppose I get to indulge whenever I want.  I just prefer not to do it quite so often." I picked up my empty plate along with his and took them to the sink.

"You don't have to wash those, you know.  I have a maid for that." He commented.

"And you didn't have to cook breakfast.  But I really appreciated it." I said over my shoulder.  It only took a few minutes to wash the dishes and set them in the rack beside the sink.  Callum tidied up his mess while I dried my hands and turned to face him with a small smile resting on my lips.  "Thank you."

"For breakfast?  I like to cook, it was no problem." He turned and leaned back against the counter top.

"For everything.  For breakfast, for showing me a nice time, and for not taking advantage of me last night." I rubbed my fingertips over my arm shyly.

He scoffed amusingly, "Let me tell you something, Luna." He pushed off and stalked towards me.  My insticts had me press my back further into the counter.  "I'll make sure you're sober before I ever try anything with you." His breath fanned my face gently as he placed his hands on either side of me and became eye level.  I froze.  Half from the intimidation of having someone as muscular and  rugged towering over me, and half because of the sexual tension that I was dying to cut through.

"Is that so?" I challenged, tilting my chin up a bit to look him directly in the eyes.

His brown irises lit up at the bait I'd laid out.  "Absolutely." He rasped and flicked his gaze between my eyes and lips.  "I'll want you to remember everything I do to you." His words were punctuated with a passionate kiss that I greedily reciprocated.
