Chapter 3
Jared
I was on the plane tweeting and watching Netflix for the last time. I'm going to miss you so much I mentally said to my phone as the plane landed. I could have still played games that didn't require wifi there but Bill was on the plane too and he made me give him my phone. He said I needed to really get into the spirit of the ranch which I knew wasn't going to be easy.
I got off the plane at the airport in Houston, Texas. I may be famous but unfortunately I still can't afford a private jet.
Bill is going to see me off but he won't be staying in Texas. I don't blame him. Why would he voluntarily give up the internet?
Bill is my best friend. I'm only fifteen but my best friend is an adult. I haven't
really seen my parents that much since my career took off. I take an online course for school so I don't really have any friends.
It's a lonely life being an actor. Maybe I'll make some friends at this ranch. I won't be able to keep in touch though. All these people don't have phones. Oh this sucks!
Bill told me I had to get on a bus to the ranch. He told that I probably shouldn't tell anyone that I'm an actor and he is probably right.
Sarah
I went outside to greet all the new campers and show them where they will be staying.
A while before I was born my dad got bored and knew he would be bored for a while. He wanted to do something that would make him a little extra money and so he decided to build some cabins and start a summer camp.
"Hey everyone!" I said enthusiastically.
"I'm Sarah. You will probably be seeing a lot of me around here. Welcome to the ranch! You were probably expecting my dad. He is busy so I'll be showing you around for now. Follow me and I'll show where you are going to be staying." I started on the path to yhr center of the thin woods where the cabins were. Everyone followed me with their bags dragging behind them. We reached the cabins after a bit of walking past the stables, my house, and the breakfast hall.
The cabins are arranged in two Mirroring lines with three cabins on each side. We put the girls in one set of cabins and the boys in the other. In the middle of the two sets of cabins lies a big fire pit. We usually make a fire and eat dinner outside every night.
"Guys on the left. Girls on the right." I commanded. It felt strange to be the one commanding. I usually take the orders from my dad. I never get to be the one to give orders.
The girls and guys split and filed into the cabins. They started settling in.
In each cabin there are a few bunk beds, three toilets and two showers. There is a clock above the door of the cabin as well as a few digital alarm clocks preset to 6:00 am.
I love the first day when they don't know that the alarm clocks are set and they are woken up from deep blissful sleep. We sarcastically say that we forgot they were set.
"Everyone settle in. Meet outside in an hour for your first lesson on riding. There are no cars here. That bus was the last automobile you will ride in for the next two months. You want to go somewhere? It will be on horseback."
Everyone gasped. They may mostly all be from my town but they still are a little up with the modern society but not my family. We don't own cars or TVs or phones. We have one emergency phone and that is it.
I walked back up to the house.
"How did it go?" My dad asked me
"Great. All the campers are settling into their cabins and I told them to meet at the fire pit between the cabins in an hour to start riding lessons." I told him.
"I'll be out there in few minutes. We need to get all the horses ready. About how many campers were there?" My dad asked
"I think somewhere around twenty." I guessed.
"Not many this year" my dad commented. We usually get about forty campers each year.
"Nope" I agreed.
