Chapter Five
I looked astonishingly awesome! I was not trying to brag, but it really looked exquisite.
The flowers which traced around the edge of the ocean blueness of the dress, went on continuously, growing over the bow which held the dress together. The white bow was made of the purest silk which was in a tight knot, highlighting my figure wonderfully. The blue silk flowed downwards like raindrops, hitting my shapely knees perfectly and showing my skin, lit up by the deep intense darkness of the blue gown.
I put on the mask. The beautiful ocean blue mask with jewel sparkles embellished on it. It gave me polishing touches on my face, defining my face perfectly.
"Who knew that Halloween could be this fun?" I said, placing my hands on my hips and eyeing my overflowing beauty — again, not bragging.
"Everyone, except you," Damien answered, earning a glare from me. "You look amazing though."
"Thank you for the compliment." I sarcastically said, rolling my eyes as I adjusted my mask. "And, looking good, ogre!"
"Ah, I should've gone to a frat party instead. At least I won't look stupid." Damien cursed himself, face palming himself. I giggled at his response and said, "This is a college-official party! Not a normal party with drunk teens, beer pong, or a frat house."
"Huh, you really don't know how to enjoy life." Damien said, earning another glare from me.
"It is the college's party, we're told to behave and it's good," I said. "It's like prom all over again."
He let me fall gracefully with his fingers intertwined with mine. My hair fell down, swaying everywhere. A bright smile was plastered on my face. He pulled me back up, ending up with me closely packed together. We both gazed at each other's eyes, slowly falling in love with each other. I ran my fingers through his brunette hair, getting his scent all over my fingers. He was wearing the Phantom of the Opera's mask, looking classically handsome. I didn't know who he was, but it was love.
We waltzed throughout the night, so slow, graceful, and magical. The clock struck at midnight, he disappeared. He left me wandering around for him, but I didn't feel bad at all. I knew I missed him, but he gave me a wonderful night. Just like Cinderella, but without a trace. And I couldn't even look for him.
I sighed at that memory, longing for him. I shrugged it off and form a forced smile. I said, "Where's Kylie by the way?"
Damien immediately looked around the room, searching for Kylie. He murmured, "She isn't here?"
Then, our dorm's bathroom's door swung open and revealed Kylie. She looked awesome, she had this tiara and wore her dress. The dress was perfect. Its satin ruffles hugged her curves and the ivory color was dazzling against her skin. The halter neck was embellished with miniature dark flowers and finished, as along all the visible seams, with jet black lace to match her stilettos, and its skirt flowed out above her knees showing her toned legs. Her black hair hung perfectly, its choppy layers framed her face an she finished it in style with a deep black satin bow, and same style as her ribbon necklace which held a beautiful black glass flower.
"Wow..." Damien sighed in amusement, lingering widened eyes.
"How is it?" Kylie shyly asked us as we both held our thumbs up. She smiled at us and said, "Let's go?"
***
"Wow." The three of us exclaimed in awe. An extremely colossal candle chandelier hung from the ceiling which had black satin cloth draping around it. The walls were also covered by the rich black curtains, realistic spider webs were smeared everywhere, and creepy music was playing.
I saw a giant bowl of fruit punch sat on the table. It had fake, edible eyeballs in it — making me wonder if they were actually real. People were everywhere with all sorts of costumes — vampires, werewolves, angels, demons, book characters, and many more. They were all chattering with each other, sipping wine glasses of Bloody Mary.
I felt a little overwhelmed by the crowd, but I was still exhilarated. Although I said that I hated Halloween, I liked this one. I told Damien and Kylie, "I'm going to head over the buffet table. See you guys later!"
"Okay, just don't go overboard." Kylie teased me, giggling. Damien added, "Don't lose your heels, they look expensive."
I glanced at the heels Nana gave me. They were still beautiful as ever, sparkling brightly. The jewels reflected the chandelier light into colours. The glittery surface made me feel glamorous. It's been a while since I felt this way.
"Good evening." A familiar voice said out loud, having a hint of flirtation and charm. I looked at him, Asher.
He looked like a member of the royal family, a prince. He wore a forest green frock coat which ran down to his knees and a buff waistcoat which was made of the purest silk you could find. He was also wearing cashmere striped trousers. He looked like an Englishman, but he had a cravat pin that made him look like a prince. I didn't say a word, but he said, "May I have your hand in this dance?"
"You don't know who I am?" I said in confusion, making him lift one of his eyebrows.
"So, may I ask your name?" He asked me charmingly, bowing slightly while offering his hand.
Should I tell him who I am or not? I could probably tease him later on for not recognising me. So, I said, "No."
"Why?"
"I want to see whether you would know me or not." I said firmly.
Reluctantly, he still reached his hand out. I gladly took it and joined him in a dance. The creepy music wasn't playing anymore, instead it was a slow dance music. His fingers intertwined with mine, his left hand was placed on my hip, and I placed my left hand on his right shoulder. We were merely inches apart, not even dancing yet.
We turned, dipped within the beats, we moved with every muscle of our bodies. He twirled me around within the music and dipped me in many random beats. I felt swooning around in an utopia, his dazzling smile added the magical touch to it. He twirled me around again, spinning my head. I felt the stares from other people, probably gazing us in awe.
Somehow, it felt like a déjà vu. I recognised the graceful manoeuvres, the balletic dip, and the emotion. It was similar to the prom dance. It was so similar as if I was experiencing the same thing again. This time, I was wearing the mask instead of the leading guy. I was hidden away from him.
Was I experiencing the love I had felt?
All of a sudden, he pulled me away from the centre of the room along with him. People's gazes stuck on us, but not for long after a person in a Bigfoot costume started to show some wild dance moves on the dance floor. He pulled me outside to a vast space of the outdoor beauty, the garden.
I could see roses blooming everywhere, from red to white colours. I could also see a few vintage lampposts, lighting up the garden brightly. An old, oak tree sat in the middle of the garden with a swing tied on its solid branch. Asher guided me towards the tree, eyeing me — probably trying to figure who I am. He let me sit on the swing, giving me light pushes. My hands held onto the rope, gripping them as tight as possible.
"Why can't I seem to recognise you?" He said silently, giving me a soft push on the back.
I didn't answer his questions and pretended to not notice him at all. I didn't know why, but I didn't want him to find out who I am. I adjusted my mask securely, not letting any chances for the mask to accidentally fall or something. Maybe I wanted to find out more about who he is.
I said, "Where are you from?"
"Hmm?" He mumbled. "Oh, I'm from a kingdom far, faraway."
"Always with that jokes." I mumbled silently under my breath, giggling slightly.
"Where are you from?" He said, giving me another push.
"An utopia faraway." I said, copying his words and twisting it with mine. I looked at him and noticed his bruises which were hidden by makeup. I asked him, "Where did you get those bruises from?"
I knew the answer, but it was to avoid suspicion. He frowned and said, "Was it that visible?"
I nodded my head. He sighed deeply and said, "I was in a few fights."
"Not what a prince would do, right?" I muttered out, turning back my head.
"Well, I'm a knight who works a part-time job as a prince," He said, making me laugh. "I'm not just any knight, I'm a dark knight. I'll protect the princess, but I will never be considered at all."
"That's actually quite sad." I said. He chuckled, but I couldn't see his expression and his thoughts. I didn't know what he was thinking.
He muttered, "I wanted to find someone, but I couldn't seem to find her at all."
"Her?" I asked him, lifting one of my eyebrows. He eyed me cautiously, inspecting my features detailedly. Then, he said, "I guess she didn't come. I was wrong then. I was thinking that she would come."
He's not talking about me, right? He seemed like a popular guy, got the looks and the charm. But if she wasn't me, who was she?
He stopped giving me pushes and held my hand, twirling me around to face him. He knelt in front of me and stared into my eyes. His jade orbs were shimmering under the romantic moonlight. He slowly reached his hands out to take off my mask, doing it as gently as possible.
I was slowly falling into his charm, his spell. I didn't move, just staring right into his eyes. He slowly lifted the string holding my mask tight, but I halted him. I grabbed his hand and pulled or away from my face. He said, "Why can't I see your face?"
He would be in an utter disappointment to find out that I was the girl in the mask. I knew that he would despise me, if he found out. I said, "I just can't."
I got up from the swing, whirling back to face him. He looked at me in shock while I looked at him in agony. I couldn't reveal my identity. If I kept this any longer, I would be found out eventually. With a little hesitation, I ran away with my hands gripping on the silky blue cloth of my dress.
"Where are you going?!" He shouted after me, soon following my steps.
I didn't reply, I just kept running and running. However, I couldn't keep running because wearing those heels were a nuisance. I took off those heels, holding them in my right hand. It was fortunate that I was in the middle of the crowd where he couldn't easily find me. I ran again, pushing through the crowd — better with bare feet.
People eyed me weirdly, gasping. However, I didn't care. I just kept running off to the sunset, reaching out for something impossible to reach out for. I climbed the stairs, barely making it to the top. He was at the bottom of the stairs, panting. He yelled, "Stop!"
I didn't listen to him again, I just kept running. Unfortunately, my hand became sweaty and I dropped one of the heels. It fell onto the ground, making a thump. I wanted to grab it and run away, but he was so close. With only a heel in my hand, I ran away. I felt regret, for leaving the heel behind. I called a taxi cab which came immediately. I boarded the taxi and the car drove off. In front, the time was displayed under a dangling charm necklace. It was exactly twelve o'clock, midnight. Was I Cinderella?
I set my gaze on the heel, thinking about Nana. It was precious, you could tell only by looking at it. I wondered what would happen.
***
"You're back." I said with a boring tone, setting my phone aside and taking off my yellow headphones.
"Where the hell have you been? We've been looking for you all night!" Kylie scolded me with an enraged tone in her voice.
"Yeah, no kidding." Damien added as he walked into the dorm, closing the door behind him.
I sat on my bed and said, "Sorry, I didn't have my phone with me in the party."
"But, you have it now! You could've called us or at least text us," Kylie said. "A call or a text could've saved a lot of time and energy."
"Wait, what did you guys exactly do?" I questioned them, making them stiffen.
"Searching the room for two hours, running in the streets for an hour, and arguing whether we should call the cops." Damien explained, shaking his head in disappointment.
"Whatever."
***
"Where did my other heel go?" I mumbled to myself, ransacking my closet. I was in distress, I lost the other heel. I asked Kylie, "Have you seen the shoes Nana gave me?"
She averted her gaze away from her cellphone and said, "No, I haven't seen them since the party."
"Okay."
I started ransacking the closet again, desperate to find that other heel. I had already lost the other one and now it was nowhere to be found. I collapsed onto the floor, feeling depressed. I wanted to cry my heart out, but I couldn't. I covered my face with my hands — preventing me from crying.
Where did it go?
***
I sat in a chair, placing a plate of sandwich and nachos on the table in front of me. It looked delicious, but somehow my appetite sank away. It looked like a plate of food I didn't want to eat, regardless of the fact that I knew that they would taste exquisite. I reluctantly grabbed my the sandwich using both of my hands and took a bite. I chewed the food, with a frown on my face.
I winced when a screech nearby could be heard. But, I had no urge to squeal. I continued chewing the food and swallowing it in a gulp. It was a chair's screeching and Asher sat back in the chair, pushing it forward to the table. He didn't look glad, he looked tired and depressed. He placed a pile of coloured papers in front of me and said, "Help me."
"What?" I said, chewing the food with an emotionless expression on my face.
"I need your help."
Boom! The end of this chapter. To be honest, I had problems writing this part because I don't know what Asher and Taylor (as Cinderella) should talk about in the party. I thought about it a lot and I was able to only improve it a little, so sorry about that. This chapter seems kinda rushed too, and sorry again. But, I'm looking forward to the next chapters.
I would like to hear your opinions about this story, like the possible plots for the next chapter, your hate/love for Taylor and Asher. I was listening to CNBLUE's Cinderella while writing this chapter, it put me in the mood :)
Thank you for reading this chapter and please await the next chapter! Bye-bye!
