Chapter 1

Light flooded the room as the curtains were drawn back. The little girl let out a whine and wraped her arms around her big brother.

"Young Master, young miss, it's time to wake up" Sebastian says with a smile as he takes the covers off the siblings "For breakfast today, we have a lightly poached salmon accompanied by a delicate mint salad. I can also offer toast, scones, or pain de campagne. Which dish would you care for this morning?"

"A scone" Ciel replies as he sits up in bed

"The salmon thingy" the little girl mutters as she pulls the covers over her

"Very well" Sebastian began to help Ciel get dressed "Today you have a meeting with Mr. Hughes, the authority on the history of the Roman Empire. And this evening, Mr. Damiano of the Poseidon Company will be paying you a visit"

"Oh, is that the man I have in charge of stuffed animals at my factory in India?" Ciel questions

"Yes. I'm told he's Italian. We will of course offer him all the hospitality the estate can provide" Sebastian answers as he pours Ciel a cup of tea

Ciel takes the cup "I know this smell. Is this tea Earl Gray?"

"Yes, from Jacksons of Piccadilly" Sebastian says

Ciel drinks his tea as Sebastian makes his way around the bed and pulls the covers off of the young girl who whines.

"Now young miss, it's time to wake up" Sebastian says as he folds the cloth

"Noooo let me sleep" she complains hiding her face under a pillow

This young lady was Rose Phantomhive, the younger sister of Ciel.

"That simply won't do" Sebastian says looking at his watch "we have a schedule to keep"

"Pest," Rose mutters

"Now my lady," Sebastian picks her up from bed and she shouts "are you going to get ready or would you rather me do it for you?"

"I'll do it!" Rose shouts hiding a blush.

Sebastian places her on her feet before smiling.

"Excellent my lady," Sebastian walks to the door "I will call Mey-Rin for you."

"hmph," Rose looks away

"I'll see you down stairs Rosie," Ciel tells her before exiting the room with Sebastian.

Mey-Rin soon came in to help Rose get dressed and ready for the day.

"You're so beautiful miss," Mey-Rin says happily

"Am I?" Rose asks looking at her maid from the mirror

"Yes my Lady of course," Mey-Rin smiles "Only someone as pretty as you can be a Phantomhive."

"Is that so?" Rose questions, staring into her own eyes in the mirror.

Mey-Rin lets out a disappointed sigh, it seems the only one Rose will have a real conversation with is Ciel and Sebastian. Her young miss has been indifferent since she arrived back at the manor with her older brother.

Rose made her way downstairs where Ciel sat in his study. She quietly sat on the chair next to her brother and began reading a book while he did paperwork. Ciel soon rings a bell, calling Sebastian in.

"I'm a bit hungry. I'd like something sweet to eat" Ciel says as Sebastian enters

"Me too," Rose agrees

"You shouldn't eat now, you don't want to spoil your appetite for dinner with your guest this evening" Sebastian tells them

Rose pouts and Ciel looks upset.

"I don't care about that. Make me a parfait" Ciel orders

"I'm sorry, sir" Sebastian declines

"Fine then," Ciel sigha "About the portrait in the hallway.."

Rose looks over at him, knowing which portrait he was referring to.

"Take it down. I am Ciel Phantomhive, son of Vincent, and I am the head of the house now" Ciel orders

"But Ciel-"

"That is my orders" Ciel finalizes, he looked at his sister's sad face and sighs "put up a portrait of me and Rose in its place"

"Consider it done, my lord" Sebastian bows and leaves

"Ciel the family portrait-"

"We are family" Ciel interrupted "me and you, nobody else."

"Yes brother," Rose replies as she opened her book back up.

"I'm sorry if it upsets you," Ciel apologizes "I just can't stand being haunted by it."

After awhile the siblings heard voices outside. Rose stood up from her seat and walked over to the windowing, peering outside. Ciel walked over, standing over her shoulder peering down as well.

"It seems our guest has arrived," Ciel says

"It seems so," Rose replied

-

Damiano and Ciel play a board game with Rose while discussing business

"The progress we've been making with the East India Factory is quite astonishing. We already have the makings of a top-notch staff" Damiano says

"Bewitched by the eyes of the dead. What terrible luck. I lose a turn." Rose mumbles

"Right now is the perfect time. We should begin expanding the company and building a strong labor force, it would-"

Rose cuts him off "Go on. It's your turn."

"Oh, yes. I just spin this then." Damiano Spins "Okay there, five spaces. Now, what I wanted to ask you. Perhaps you could contribute another 12,000 pounds to support our expansion? I believe it will be quite a profitable venture for you, my lord, and I would consider it an honor to help expand the Funtom Company..."

"Lose a leg in the enchanted forest" Rose says

Ciel plays his turn "Rose lost a turn, it's your turn again"

"Oh, I see" Damiano spun "Right, I move six"

"You don't. That's three" Rose said

"What?" Damiano asked "But..."

"You lost a leg, if you recall. Now you only move half othe number of spaces." Rose replies

"Oh my, ha ha ha ha" Damiano laughs "This is a gruesome-a board game, isn't it? Is there-a no way for me to restore my leg, then?"

Rose raises her head "I'm afraid once something is truly lost, sir, that one can never get it back again.." she peers into his eyes with a deathly look "Your body is burnt by raging flames."

"I-" Damiano is too stunned to speak

"I will check on dinner," Rose smiled to Ciel before standing up and walked out of the room.

"My little sister is fond of games" Ciel says "I hope you don't mind playing with her."

"Not at all my lord" Damiano replies, chuckling nervously.

Not long after Sebastian enters "Pardon the interruption, but dinner is served"

"Oh, dinning out in that exquisite stone garden? Shall we go, my lord?" Damiano asks

"Very well, we'll finish the game later" Ciel replies

"Oh, is there any real need to finish it? It's obvious I'ma going to lose" Damiano questions

"My sister doesn't like abandoning games halfway through" Ciel tells him "she'll get upset if she doesn't get to finish"

"How childish" Damiano mumbles then looks at Ciel who is glaring at him "Oh I, I mean that sometimes it takes a child's eyes to see what's really important. It's a true gift your sister has. Maybe that's what's made the Phantomhives the nation's foremost toy makers. It certainly impresses me!"

They move to the stone garden. Ciel and Rose sat next to each other on one end of the table while Damiano sat on the other side accords from them.

"On tonight's menu is a dish of finely-sliced raw beef donburi courtesy of our chef Baldroy" Sebastian served the dish

"A pile of raw beef. And this is dinner?" Damiano questioned

"Yes, but surely you have heard of it? This, good sir, is a traditional Japanese delicacy, a dish offered as a sign of gratitude to someone who has accomplished important work. That, sir, is the wonder of donburi!" Sebastian replies with passion "This is a token from our master, to show his thanks for all your hard work on the company's behalf. He wanted you to know that it's much appreciated"

"Excellent, what an inspired idea!" Damiano shouts happily "The legendary Phantomhive hospitality in action!"

"The vintage we are pouring tonight was specially selected to compliment the flavor of soy sauce" Sebastian says

Mey-Rin attempts to pour the wine, but is flustered by Sebastian's attention and spills the wine onto the tablecloth. However, before Damian notices, Sebastian is able to pull the long tablecloth off, without disturbing the items on the table.

"Oh? Where did the tablecloth-a go?" Damiano questions when he noticed

"A speck of dirt, most unsightly. I had the cloth removed so it wouldn't distract us. Think nothing of it." Ciel replies

"Oh, Oh my! Lord Phantomhive, once again you have truly impressed me. What an able butler you've acquired" Damiano complements

"Pay him no mind. He merely act as befits one of our servants" Ciel says

Sebastian smiles "My master is quite correct about that. Naturally, you see, I am simply one hell of a butler"

Damiano, Ciel, and Rose return to the drawing room.

Damiano sits down "That was a thoroughly enjoyable dinner, my lord. Now then, about the contract-"

"Before we discuss that, we must finish the game" Rose interrupts

Damiano nods "Ah, yes of course. I do have a pressing-a appointment, perhaps another ti-"

"Children can be very demanding about their games." Rose looks up at him with a slight smirk "Surely you wouldn't want me to get upset."

"No, no of course not" Damiano replies "Perhaps you would permit me to use your telephone?"

"Of course go ahead" Ciel permits

"I'll be right back" Damiano stands up and leaves.

"I believe the game is almost over," Ciel tells Rose as he spins the game's top.

Moments pass, in the drawing room Rose and Ciel heard the cries of Damiano.

"Humph, ha ha ha" CIel laughs "What an unattractive scream. He sounds almost like a pig taken off to slaughter. What presumption, first he sells the East Indian factory without telling us, and then he dares to ask for more money?"

"He must've thought we were idiots," Rose adds "but what do I know? After all I am just a child who loves her games."

"You almost scared him off early you know," Ciel looked at her with a smirk "he was practically squirming in his seat every time you looked at him."

"Well," Rose sat in her seat and folded her hands "they do say staring into my eyes is like looking into the realm of the dead."

"Remind me to gouge out the eyes of whoever started that rumor," Ciel commented as he moved his character, he stopped and narrowed his eyes

"Your body is burnt by raging flames," Rose smiles before looking up at Ciel "It seems I win again dear brother."

"It seems so," Ciel sighs

"I hope that man learned a lesson today," Rose said as she stood up

"Did he think to retain my trust?" Ciel questions as he picked up his game piece

"I'm afraid once something is truly lost," Rose looked at Ciel "one can never get it back again."

Ciel stared into her eyes "I know."
