Chapter 2: Willow
"Oh, willow tree, oh willow tree! How green are your eyes tonight?" Oak rocked his newborn daughter to sleep.
"I hope her eyes will as green as willow leaves!" exclaimed Ivy, smiling. "The greener the better."
Green eyes were a sign of luck in the land of dryads, because green was the color of nature and more nature was better than barren land.
"Ooh! Honey, she's about to open her eyes."grinned Oak, "I'm betting on pale green eyes."
"I'm for Willow green!"
Baby Willow opened her eyes. They were not green. Not at all green. They were blue, as blue as a pale delphinium. Her eyes were beautiful, but not green.
"Oh darling, Oak. Oh no. Blue... Blue... Blue?"
"We should have called her Delphi or Delphinium. Her eyes are like that."
"But the only soul that had blue eyes on land was..."
"Michelangelo..." They said together.
Blue was increasingly unlucky on the lands. It was the color of the sky and the seas. But it was rumoured that a blue-eyed child will take the place of Lord Michelangelo, the Hunter of the Land.
"One day, she'll bring power to the name Walker. A beautiful name for the lands."
But who knows what that might bring?
