Chapter 12: Pearl
Pearl swore she saw a redheaded girl walk across the beach. A dryad? She thought so. She swam towards the fort as her mind was lost in thought. Willow Tree, her mind seemed to say, the Willow Tree. How could a willow tree be related to a redheaded girl, she did not know. Ignoring the whispers in her head, she slowly headed to her destination.
Suddenly, she saw a flash of red that seemed to run across the water and back to the beach. The redheaded girl was gone as well, though she felt something familiar about the girl and the flash of red, yet no nymph or dryad was known to run that fast. The whispers in her head were louder now. The WILLOW TREE, the WILLOW TREE!!!
"Stop it!" she cried, unable to control herself, "Stop it!"
"Stop what?" a confused voice asked as Angel swam slowly towards her, "Who's annoying you?"
Tears stung her cheeks as she turned to face Angel. "The voices!" she sobbed, "Can't you hear them?"
"I have no idea what you're talking about." said Angel.
"The willow tree... The willow tree... Aghh!"
"Whaaat? The Willow tree? What about a willow tree?"
"I don't know! It just repeats and repeats! The Willow Tree, The Willow Tree, The Willow Tree, The Willow Tree. It's like an incantation!"
Angel muttered something under her breath. All Pearl could hear was 'The ... pearl ... sea ... Fast ... Willow ... Blue ... soars ... might ... three ... force ... ' Pearl let her mind flow to understand the string of words. The prophecy of the Hunters... the voice said to herself Do you not know it? You, the purest pearl of deepest sea? The girl, the fastest child, the willow tree? The boy who sees you with Blue Jay eyes? Do you not realise it? Pearl's mind spun in circles as she closed her eyes to make her thoughts control themselves. Dizzier and dizzier she got as she soon lost control of her thoughts and fainted on the spot.
"Pearl... Pearl!"
Pearl woke to her name being called. Her hands were holding something small and round. A pearl, no, three pearls. One for each of the realms, she thought. She clasped them tightly in her fists and swam towards the Fort.
"Don't follow me, Angel, please." she gasped, "Please..."
"Sure enough. You did freak me out, 'cause there were bubbles surrounding you." Angel replied as she swam off.
Pearl let her soul relax as she arrived at the Fort. Evening was dawning as she looked at the three milky pearls in her hands, her namesakes. She took a little bottle she found near the shore and gently nudged them into it. There. Safe and sound as she waited for the two others to arrive. The two others that might change history together.
