|| chapter twenty five.
Allison's POV
The first thing I woke up to was Cole's call.
I had to force myself to answer it, since it was so freaking early in the morning when he called and I still had a little bit of a headache. However, I do answer it and press the phone to my ear, saying groggily into the phone: "This better be good Cole Clearwater or else I will haunt your nightmares at night and make sure you never sleep again."
I was still half asleep before he said: "I have Avery."
My eyes snap awake then as I sit up in bed. "What did you just say?"
"Who's that?" I hear Stiles mumble before yawning, stretching as he started to wake up. His eyes are on me as I listen closely at Cole through the phone.
He talks fast. "I couldn't just let her run around free, Allison. She could kill someone else, and if that would happen, we'd have to live with the fact of knowing that it was her. So, I got her so she can't hurt anyone-"
"Cole what in the hell did you do!" I scream into the phone, Stiles jumping at my sudden change in tone. My head throbs.
"She's okay, alright? She's at my place with ropes around her hands so she won't go anywhere-" he cuts off then as I wait in silence, not sure what just happened. "Okay, so new problem..."
"She got out of the ropes didn't she?"
"You are correct."
I take a deep breath, just imagining what was running through Avery's head right now. "Go look for her...dammit Cole! Don't do shit like this without Stiles and I!"
"It can't be that hard to find her," he says, sounding as if he was walking out of the door through the phone.
I throw the covers off of me. "Stiles and I will meet you, okay? Just text us where you are when I let you know when we're coming."
"I'm sorry, Allison," he says sympathetically before the phone goes dead, causing me to groan and throw it down onto the bed. I quickly throw my legs over the side of my bed as I get up, turning and throwing my clothes drawer open.
I had almost forgotten about Stiles. "What was that all about?"
"That idiot went and kidnapped Avery," I breathe, my head continuing to throb rapidly. "If that wasn't bad enough, she got away and is more than likely going to report what's happened in the past few hours-"
"I told him not to do anything until we made sure you were okay first," Stiles halfway yells, leaping out of bed himself. He quickly changes his T-Shirt to another nicer looking one, my eyes catching a peak of his abdomen. "Speaking of which, are you okay?"
I look over my shoulder, snagging a t-shirt as well before closing my drawer. "I have a minor headache, but I'm okay. I should be asking if you're okay, though. What was with last night?"
He contines to get changed as I do as well, not really caring if he saw or not. We've been roommates long enough that it wasn't weird to change in front of one another (I mean, I've seen Stiles naked after all), but of course I always faced the wall when I did. A small part of me was still self conscious.
"I just had a nightmare, and it felt so real," he fades off, remembering it all. "You weren't okay and you were throwing up and seizing, and then Void came back-"
"Void?" I ask, raising an eyebrow. He sounded like I should have known.
He looks over at me. "Oh, the nogitsune. I thought I told you about him?"
"Oh yeah, you did," I fade out, remembering what he told me. "That's weird."
"Yeah, but I'm okay now," he breathes, slipping on a pair of socks as I slip on a pair of jeans. "I'm glad none of it was real."
The room is quiet for awhile as we continue to get dressed, not taking much longer. After we were ready, Stiles grabbed the keys to his jeep and we jogged down the stairs and out of the dorm before jumping into the jeep, taking off down the road. I had quickly texted Cole that we were coming, in which earned me a reply telling me to just meet him at his apartment.
I tell Stiles where to go before sighing, looking up at a road. "How are we supposed to fix this, Stiles? Avery doesn't understand any of this."
He sighs as well, thinking. "I'm hoping that an answer will just magically appear in front of us so we can save her and stop these attacks and then go back to doing normal college things and then maybe winning the lottery and buying a new jeep and then-"
"You're telling me that if you were to win the lottery, you would just buy a new jeep and not drop out of college?" I half smile. "If I won the lottery...to hell with school, man. I'm buying a mansion and sticking it in the bank to grow."
Stiles takes a hand off of the wheel and points at me. "Smart girl."
I grin before getting back onto topic, my smile fading. "What if...what if we can't save her?"
He turns and looks at me as I do as well, our eyes connecting for a moment before he reaches out and lays his hand on top of mine. He knew that I was sort of close to Avery; she was the closest friend I had here that was a girl. The small action of showing me that he cared sparked something inside of me, but I couldn't pinpoint what.
"We'll save her," he smiles faintly at me before looking back at the road. He takes a left turn. "This is it, isn't it?"
I look back out the window to see Cole's dorm, nodding my head. "Yeah, this is it."
I quickly text Cole that we were here before Stiles parks the jeep, and no sooner than I had gotten out of the jeep did I see Cole walking over towards us, his head hanging. I could tell that he knew he was about to get his ass chewed.
Stiles says something first. "Cole, I told you not to do anything until we made sure Allison was okay!"
Cole looks up, fire in his eyes. "Well she seems to be okay now, and if she wouldn't have been, then what, Stiles? You're the one who didn't want to take her to the hospital."
I bite my tongue as I step in between them, holding my hands out. "Calm down! I'm okay, so none of that matters, okay?"
Stiles heaves huge breaths as Cole does as well, making me nervous. I knew that they both needed to calm down or else Cole might shift, and I sure as hell didn't want that. I take control over the situation. "Cole, what made you think it was a good idea to kidnap her?"
"It's not kidnapping if you save lives," he retaliates. I take a deep breath, finding the rights words to say to where I didn't completely piss him off and make him mad.
Stiles speaks before I can. "So taking control over the situation without asking Allison and I first was a smart idea?"
"First off, what makes you think I have to speak to you before doing something?" he yells, having somewhat of a point. "Second off, what if she would have killed someone else last night, huh? What then? The three of us would have to live knowing that we could have stopped it but didn't. So I don't understand why we're arguing about this when we should be finding her and locking her up."
"Lock her up?" I say, turning back to Cole as Stiles fumes. "We aren't locking her up, that's for damn sure-"
"She's dangerous!" Cole shouts, making me angry.
"So are you," I spit, the fire in his eyes dying down a little. The three of us are quiet for awhile before I speak slowly, closing my eyes. "Fighting isn't important right now. We need to figure out where she went and explain to her what is going on. She at least deserves that. Then after, we're going to find a way to save her, okay?"
Cole nods his head slowly as Stiles does as well, the two of them not daring to make eye contact with one another for some odd reason, and I wanted to know exactly why. With the way they were acting, it seemed as if they had gotten into a fight or something last night, but I wasn't sure. However, just before I could ask, I hear sirens blare into my ears, along with the sound of tires screeching.
I turn and look over my shoulder then to see three cop cars come flying into the parking lot, stopping right in front of the three of us. My hands lower slowly as my heart skips a beat, knowing that this was about this. It had to be.
My thoughts were answered when I see two police officers step out, holding guns out as they moved inwards towards us. They shout at us to put our hands up, which we do, as they shout for someone to identify us. I gulp when I see Avery step out one of the cars, wrapping her arms around her torso.
"Which one was it?" one of the officers yells as I flinch, my head still throbbing.
Avery stands and stares at us for a moment before nodding her head. "All of them."
The officers seem confused for a moment before suddenly my arms are being handcuffed behind my back, along with Stiles and Cole. The three of us look between one another, not daring to say a word. We all knew what this was about and so did Avery.
At least I can cross going to jail off my bucket list.
