1.1- A SOOTHING LULLABY[os]

DIGVIJAY X YUVIKA

In the expansive Mahajan house, Yuvika and Digvijay found themselves alone while the rest of the family was caught in Rishikesh due to a raging storm. Yuvika, nursing a painful hamstring injury, stayed back while Digvijay awaited an important meeting with a special client. Neel, off to a friend's wedding with his father, had left the two 'not so good with each other' siblings alone.

An irritated Digvijay, begrudgingly following Dada babu's orders to look after his younger 'sister', settled in Yuvika's room.

Yuvika watched as her 'elder brother', Digvijay, meticulously prepared his evening ritual drink - a glass of wine.

She observed how he poured the drink with practiced ease, a routine she had become all too familiar with. She couldn't help but mutter under her breath, "He is always high on everything because of this!"

Her words, although meant to be private, were heard by Digvijay, who shot back sharply, "Mind your own business, fattichar!"

Yuvika, undeterred, retorted, "No need to remind me of my business, DJ bhaiya."

"Don't call me that, it's weird," Digvijay replied, annoyance evident in his voice.

"Your nickname is weird, that's why!" Yuvika shot back, a mischievous glint in her eyes.

Rolling his eyes, Digvijay gulped down the drink in one swift motion, clearly aggravated by the conversation.

"You don't sleep without this, right?" Yuvika prodded, her concern evident in her voice.

"If you know that this helps me sleep, why are you asking?" Digvijay snapped back, his frustration bubbling to the surface.

Yuvika, persistent as ever, questioned, "Why are you always high on anger? Always shouting."

"All because of you!" Digvijay retorted, pouring himself another drink.

"I was concerned. I have read that it's bad for health," Yuvika tried to reason with him.

"I know what is good and what is bad for me," Digvijay replied dismissively, preparing to pour himself another drink.

"Ever heard of haldi wala doodh?" Yuvika suggested, hoping to offer a healthier alternative.

"Don't give advice, fattichar! I have tried that, but wine only works for me. You don't know how much tension I have in my mind!" Digvijay snapped, his defenses up.

"If that doesn't work, then listen to some relaxing music instead of drinking," Yuvika persisted, unwilling to give up.

"Why don't you sleep?" Digvijay deflected, trying to turn the conversation around.

"I am not able to because you are sitting here. When you go, I will play my mother's lullaby and then sleep," Yuvika revealed a piece of her nighttime routine.

"Lullaby? Are you a kid?" Digvijay teased, a rare hint of humor in his tone.

"DJ, there is no age limit for listening to a lullaby, especially your mother's lullaby. I have it recorded. Whenever I am not able to sleep, I play that," Yuvika shared, a sense of nostalgia in her voice.

"Do whatever, but please sleep. Otherwise, Dada babu will scold me," Digvijay urged Yuvika to sleep.

"Okay then," Yuvika acquiesced, playing her mother's lullaby at a high volume, enveloping the room in the soothing melody.

DJ for a moment was surprised to hear his own chachi's voice. It was really soothing. He saw Yuvika sleeping instantly.

''A mother's lullaby had the power to make her children sleep? Really?'' He thought.

The soothing melody, sung by her chachi, enchanted Digvijay, who was taken aback by its calming effect on Yuvika. As she drifted off to sleep, DJ's thoughts wandered to his own upbringing, devoid of such tender moments.

He reflected on his mother's absence during his childhood. His cries were met with material offerings, his emotional needs brushed aside in favor of plush toys and lavish gifts. The concept of a lullaby was foreign to him, a luxury he had never been granted.

As DJ delved into his teenage years, his mother's ambitions for him were made clear - he was to be the successor to the Mahajan legacy, the next in line after his revered Dada babu. The dreams of pursuing his musical passions were dismissed as frivolous distractions, overshadowed by the weight of familial expectations thrust upon him.

In the confines of his room, DJ found refuge in his music, each note a rebellious whisper against the constraints of his predetermined destiny. The melodies he crafted were his silent protest, a yearning for a freedom that seemed unattainable within the confines of the Mahajan dynasty.

As he matured into adulthood, the pressure to conform to his mother's vision weighed heavily on DJ's shoulders. The allure of the music industry beckoned to him like a siren's call, yet the ties of duty and obligation held him in place, a puppet in his mother's grand scheme replaced by material possessions and lofty expectations of taking over the family business. Music, his true passion, had taken a back seat to fulfill his mother's ambitions. The lullaby opened a floodgate of emotions long suppressed, stirring a longing for the maternal warmth he had missed.

The silence-brought him back to the reality. The music had now stopped.

Slowly, he made his way towards Yuvika's bed and caught hold of her phone. He then took the voice note of the lullaby and transferred into his phone and keeping the phone back in place, he went to his room, covering Yuvika with a duvet and partially closing her door.

After coming to his room, he felt tipsy due to influence of the wine and soon slept as he hit the bed.

The next night, after a meeting and some discussions with staff and other members of the office he was tired and wanted some sleep. The  family members will be back by tomorrow morning. The storm had ceased and the rain too.

Yuvika was better-she was able to walk by holding a crutch. Diamond was taking care of her food and Neel too had come home.

Closing the door, he plugged in his earphones and started the voice note. But it did not start. There was some issue with transferring and the audio was not found.

Distressed-he ordered the house keeping to bring him a bottle of alcohol.

If he asked Yuvika to give her phone--she will unnecessary trouble him. He knew that asking Yuvika will hurt his ego and he didn't wanted to ask his 'fattichar sister'. But deep down he wanted to ask her.

Ignoring the pleas of his heart, he settled himself on his bed and poured the wine in a glass.

Just then his sister Yuvika entered.

''Mind your own business fattichar!'' He shouted and gestured her to go. But she stayed.

''Bhalayi ka zamana hi nahi hai'' she replied moving towards her brother's bed, taking him by surprise.

''Get up from my bed!'' DJ exclaimed but instead of listening, Yuvika pulled DJ and he landed straight on the pillow beside her.

Astonished and bamboozled, he asked for and explanation but Yuvika showed him a finger on his lips gesture quite strictly.

Patting his head, she began singing a lullaby softly.

''सुरमई अखियों में
नन्हा मुन्ना एक सपना दे जा रे
सुरमई अखियों में
नन्हा मुन्ना एक सपना दे जा रे
निन्दिया के उड़ते पाखी रे
अँखियों में आजा साथी रे
रा री रा रूम ओ रा री रूम
रा री रा रूम ओ रा री रूम
सुरमई अखियों में
नन्हा मुन्ना एक सपना दे जा रे''

''What are you doing?'' DJ questioned.

''Helping my brother to fall asleep--by healthy means'' she smacked his head while replying.

DJ's hatred for his sister began to crumble down. He wanted to sleep and he knew that his sister was going to make him sleep anyway.

Rather than having a verbal spat with her, he put the glass of wine back on the table beside him and closed his eyes, enjoying the lullaby, his younger sister sung for him

Yuvika wasn't bad at all. Perhaps.

As his eyelids drooped, all he could sense was peace and the soothing voice of his sister Yuvika.

---------------

POINT TO BE NOTED--YUVIKA HAS NOT BEEN DECLARED AS THE NEXT CEO HERE. DJ TOO. BHANU PRATAP IS THE CEO OF MAHAJAN GROUP.

WELL-TODAY IS THE LAST TELECAST OF VANSHAJ AND ALL I COULD THINK OF DJ AND YUVIKA BEING GOOD TO EACH OTHER. DJ HAD MANY SHADES--HE HAD THAT EMOTIONAL QUOTIENT BUT MAKERS HAD TO MAKE HIM THE VILLAIN AND YUVIKA THE HEROINE. THEY COULD HAVE BEEN A POWERFUL FORCE BUT MAKERS DISAPPOINTED US.

THIS IS MY SMALL ATTEMPT TO MAKE THEM-A POWERFUL SIBLING FORCE.  MORE TO COME AS THIS IS AN OS/TS/SS BOOK ON VANSHAJ-FEATURING DJ AND YUVIKA IN THE CENTRAL SPACE.
