[3rd Person POV]
The being sat in his small safe area of the cave again, staring into the water of the pool.
The cave was its usual, blissful quiet. And he had even acquired more captives this week. The incident where he was spotted by a pair of villagers while scouting and wasn't able to capture either is concerning, but he knew he would be seen eventually. The other Chromatics still don't know anything about him, and by the time they do start gathering clues it'll be too late.
At this rate, his precious Kingdom will inherit the world as they deserve, all according to plan.
For now though, he enjoyed this moment of peace. He needed a short while to recover from the arrow wound he received during that incident, and he figured he deserved a break anyway. He smiled as the spores in the cave swirled around him like flower petals, calmly staring into the water. A new plant was starting to grow in there, a dull magenta algae. It was interesting, how fast these different, strange plants were evolving.
But it wasn't the time to think about that. It was time for him to have a peaceful, quiet few hours before he had to check on all his captives again, then go back into the outside world to collect more.
...
. . .
...A hiss of a spider echoes through the walls of the cave.
The entity quickly raises one of his hands in a brief moment, his hand outstretched as if to claw something.
He looked into the other rooms through the water, the algae glowing, and saw a cave spider approaching one of the groups of captives, fangs ready to bite.
He closed his hand into a fist.
I said quiet.
In an instant, the strange vines grab onto the spider and surround it, no spot left uncovered. Not even seconds later, the vines disappear and return to the ground with the moss seemingly untouched, the spider gone. As if the vines... consumed it. He was glad the spider didn't do any damage, though. He understands that his methods are extreme, but he is not cruel. He will not allow harm to come to his captives.
As he lowered his hand and the pool stopped glowing, it reminded him of how his most troublesome prisoner had vines around him... digging into him. Were they doing the same to the Darkness on him? Is that where that red liquid came from, the vines neutralizing the Darkness? If they are, it concerns him a little bit that the vines had completely covered any part of him with the black substance on it, including the side of his face.
...But now is not the time for concern. He can worry about that later.
