~| Day 23B: Found |~

AU: Son of Science (I promise I'm gonna write a different AU after this one-)

Context: A part 2 to the end of 22B, the Professor tells Sabre where he came from :>

—————————————————————————————————————

[3rd Person POV]

The Professor stepped down from a stepstool, blowing dust off a fairly large book after taking it off his closet shelf.

He sat down on his bed and motioned for Sabre to join him, and the two sat together as Professor Red begins talking.

"Twelve years ago, I was looking for ingredients to make an elixir for an experiment, walking through a forest during a bad storm." He starts, his hands resting on the cover of the book. "I hadn't been very successful, but as I was about to turn a different direction to keep looking I heard something."

He then opens the book, the first few pages blank, but then he comes to a page covered in photos. Sabre realizes it's a scrapbook of some kind. The pictures on the pages show a familiar-looking portal frame.

"I heard warping, then shattering, then... crying. Of course I was concerned, so I went to check it out. I don't know what I was really expecting, but when I reached an opening to a plains, I saw a recently deactivated portal frame and... a baby."

He turns the page, showing a series of photos of a small, oddly colored child. Some photos showed the child in a room that was more of a guest room, but some showed it in a proper crib and surrounded by soft toys. Sabre's unbruised eye grew wide as he realized he was looking at pictures of his much younger self.

"That baby was you, Sabre." The Professor smiles at him. "I found you on the ground, next to the portal. I knew you couldn't stay out there, so I wrapped you in my lab coat and took you back to the lab. The Leader was upset that I was out of the kingdom, of course, but he couldn't say no to bringing in a child that was suddenly dropped into this world with no home to go to. It was decided that I would care for you, and... it was the greatest thing that ever happened to me."

Professor Red hands the scrapbook to Sabre, letting him flip through it. Sabre sees many photos of his younger self, all with the Professor, and the occasional page with more information on the portal. Notes about research and new discoveries about the otherworldly doorway accompanied by photos of progression of its overgrowth, as nature claimed it as the months passed.

"Research started on the portal a few months after I found you, which is also when it was announced to the people that it was found. In case it was dangerous to anyone, the Leader didn't want you being associated with it by everyone just yet. Only he, I, and my colleagues also studying the portal know it brought you to this world." Professor Red exclaims. "The reason why nobody knows what you are, is because we were never able to see or find any information on what was on the other side. We've tried, believe me. We've tried for years. But that portal isn't being opened again no matter what we do, so all we can do is analyze and put what pieces we have together."

Sabre is quiet for a moment, just looking at one of the pictures of the decommissioned portal frame. He then looks up at his father.

"I know it's a lot, but... I wasn't sure how you'd react." The Professor sighs. "I knew you'd have to know eventually, but I was worried you wouldn't be very happy about it-"

"Are you kidding?! This is awesome!" Sabre jumps up and exclaims, surprising the Professor. He holds the book close as he beams with excitement. "I mean, I came from another world! And that portal has been talked about for so long, everyone's curious about it! And I'm living proof that it was actually active once?! This is amazing!"

Professor Red is shocked for a moment as Sabre jumps around, excited, but smiles, glad his son isn't upset about his origins. Sabre places the book down on the bed, before resuming running around, then stopping as he grins mischievously.

"I can't wait to rub this in Blaze's face." He says.

"Hey, don't you have that heritage project presentation coming up next week?" The Professor says with a similar grin. "I know your teacher said you could opt out of it, but perhaps since you're alright with it, everyone else should know too."

Sabre just stops and stares for a minute, before laughing with the same grin as before.

"You're a genius, dad."

"I know, and I'm hoping I passed it to you."

They both laugh, then Sabre runs downstairs to gather supplies for his project. The Professor follows.

He'll tell the Leader and Sabre's teacher the plan tomorrow.
