❄Chapter one❄

"Emily, I swear I'll leave in two more minutes and you'll have run your way to school because I've already told Oliver not to pick us up, you have no other options!" Liam shouts from down-stairs.

"WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?" I yell as I stumble in the blankets as usual, trying to get up.

"Because!" he yells back.

I run downstairs till I come face to face with my brother. "Why did you tell him not to pick us up?" I stomp my foot to the ground.

"Why would he pick us up if I can drive you? Besides, he said he's driving Cameron to school. Thought you wouldn't like to be third wheeling," he crunches a juicy-looking apple. Who eats an apple for breakfast? When are pancakes to be eaten then?
Screw fitness, really. Food is the only good thing left in this world. Why would someone intentionally cut the tasty ones out?

"Yeah. I guess I wouldn't like that. I'll be dressed in a few," I say in disappointment. I wanted Oliver, along with Jenna to join us on our way to school. He promised he'd 'stick up my ass all the time' and there he is, ditching all of us for Cameron already.

Me: Mum, thank you so much for the new dress. It was an amazing surprise.

Tapping the send icon on my phone's screen, I roll my eyes at how I need to pretend being thankful for the so unlike me, mid-thigh may I add, dress. I shift my eyes from the screen to my actual outfit. Girls normally make much effort to put on something attractive on their first day as a senior. On the other side, I chose a simple pair of jeans with ripped knees matched with a pale pink basic T-shirt and a white pair of Converse.

"Thanks for waiting," I tell him as I read the text she sends me in return.

Jessica: I wanted you to look like a princess on your first day as a senior! I hope you have a nice day, sweetie -kisses.

I snort at the exaggeration. It's just a simple floral summer dress. What kind of princess wears such dress? But most of all, what kind of princess forgets to brush her hair on her first day as a senior?

"Why don't you just untie it?" Liam suggests as he sees me staring at my own reflection, scrunching my nose in disgust at how terrible my hair looks.

I nod at his words, untying my hair "ughhh! Look at the ends."

"You said that Jenna cuts her own hair, didn't you?" he asks and I nod. "Her hair looks absolutely amazing. She's on our way to your school. Would you like to stop by her place? She wouldn't mind cutting yours, would she?"

I smile at Liam, "thanks."

"So... shall we stop by her place?"

"No, I mean- yes, we are stopping by her place. I told her we'll pick her up yesterday" I laugh. "But, no. Cutting my hair needs tons of mental preparations. Definitely not getting a haircut literally on my way to school."

My hair has always been so precious to me, and somehow I feel guilty for misusing it, let alone cutting it. I know as a matter of fact that if I was to spoil it with expensive shampoos and fruity conditioners, it would look much better than its current state. The shampoo would nourish it, emphasizing it's golden color. Whereas, the conditioner would make it's now tangle-y curls loosen up a bit, and maybe, just maybe, that would make it look live instead of dull.

I'd love to have the kind of hair that you see on tumblr under #hairgoals. I just wish I had enough money, time and effort to spoil and invest in my hair.

"She would just 'trim' it," Liam quotes my words.

"Are you that eager to see her? I told you we are picking her up bothways, stop nagging." I smirk even though he's looking at the road.

"See who?" he plays dumb and it instantly makes me laugh. Liam plays dumb when he's trying to hide something and now that he's playing dumb, I'm sure that I guessed right. He's so eager to see her. "Don't laugh! We're here. Call her."

I nod with a smirk that's plastered on my face, dialing Jenna's number. She answers after the third ring, "Jee, we're here! Would you please hurry? And please, get me whatever is needed to fix the frizzy ends of my hair."

"Good morning to you too," she says in a sarcastic tone. "Your coiffeuse will be downstairs in three minutes, ma'am."

"A minute and a half sounds more than enough."

"I'm sure you will change your opinion when you see the results on your hair, mademoiselle Amilia." Jenna fakes a French accent.

"It's Emily and I'm looking forward to it."

"Your coiffeuse is here!" Jenna announces as she hops into the backseat of Liam's car.

"What equipment have you brought to fix my ends?" I ask.

"Well, I was expecting the I-miss-you-so-much kind of hug, but-"

"It's okay, I too, was expecting a hello!" Liam interrupts Jenna.

"Hello, Liam." She blushes.

****

We arrive and surprisingly no girl is waiting for Liam at the parking lot. I resist the urge to make a comment because he wouldn't appreciate if I bring up this topic in front of Jenna.

When Liam drives me to school we usually arrive twenty minutes earlier because that's the amount of time he needs to make out with... well, a different girl everyday.

I always try to make him feel bad about it by asking him to imagine a guy making out with his sister and never talking to her again. He defends himself saying that he informs them that it's nothing serious before they make out. He never convinces me, yet I know that that these are the leftovers of mum cheating on dad. It was when he promised he'd never put any woman behind the "trigger".

My white Converse clicks against the corridor's yellow tiles as we walk speedily towards the girls' bathroom.

I push the door, looking into the mirror as I quickly untie my hair, waiting for Jenna to do her work. She fishes out metal scissors from her makeup bag.

"What are you doing?" I ask with horror written all over my face.

"Trimming your ends, maybe?" She says in a duh tone.

"No, you're not, maybe?" I duh back.

"Don't you trust me?"

"I do, but..."

"No, buts! Close your eyes for five minutes and be sure that I won't disappoint you."

"Jenna..." I sigh.

"Trust me!"

I do as she says and I close my eyes until I hear her saying, "you can open your eyes now!"

I open half an eye afraid of what's waiting for me in the mirror. Once I catch a glimpse of the healthy looking ends of my hair, my eyes shoot open. "waaaaaw" I involuntarily say.

Who knew that the ends of your hair could change the overall look of your hair like that?
"Well... thank you?" I tell Jenna as she smiles victoriously at me.

"You're welcome, idiot. Now, let's go. We don't want to be late on our first day, do we?"

I tuck a strand behind my right ear as I take a last look at myself in the mirror. Dr. Acel's voice echoes through my head saying "when you look in the mirror, look deeply into yourself. Look past the insecurities and the imperfections. You're beautiful the way you are and the moment you believe this, is the moment everyone else does."
Everyone is beautiful. I'm beautiful.

****

People start making an entrance just as I push the W.C.'s door open- perfect timing. Sense my sarcasm?
Please God be on my side today. All I want is to walk just how a normal human being would, without hitting a wall or tripping over a wire and flashing them my polka dots faded panties- why did I even remind myself of such thing? Now I'll have to walk all the way through the corridor staring at my feet, making sure it doesn't stumble upon anything.

I skim through the not so down to earth football boys as I look for those specific ones who make me feel warm. Oliver and Liam.

"Who's the beauty looking for?" a raspy male voice comes from behind.
