002. a charlie brown christmas
4:58 pm
The movie ended with Luke and Dani in a fit of laughter, now a little more comfortable with each other compared to when they first met.
"Man, that dumbass really did that." Dani giggled.
"That's kinda the best part though." Luke looked over to Dani.
"How so?" She asked confused.
"He went through all that hoping and wishing just to fuck it all up." He said, trying so hard not to break into laughter, but miserably failing.
"I find that to be sad." Dani frowned.
"Well I find it to be hilarious." Luke replied with a tiny bit of sass. "Anyway, it's my turn and I know what I'm picking."
"You're excited about this, aren't you?" Dani teased, which Luke wasn't affected by. "What movie you picking?"
"A Charlie Brown Christmas." He answered with a smile on his face.
"Are you serious?"
"What? It's my childhood!" Luke protested.
"You have practically unlimited options and that's what you pick?" She questioned him.
"Mhm." He nodded.
"Wow, I'm surprised." Dani said.
"Good, because I'm full of them." Luke smirked. Man, he sure could charm a girl.
Luke grabbed Dani's laptop and began typing in the movie he oddly wanted to watch, and the whole time Dani watched him do it, which Luke caught onto.
"You watching me type?"
"What?" Dani asked, snapping out of whatever trance she was in. "No, no. I was just staring into space, that's all."
Luke raised an eyebrow at her, not believing her for a second "Well these fingers aren't exactly extra terrestrial, so."
Dani burst into laughter, confusing him. "What?"
""These fingers aren't exactly extra terrestrial." What type of response is that?" She cackled.
"I thought it was funny!" He argued.
"What are you, an alien or something?" Dani joked. "The Area 51 raid was in September, bud!"
"Alright, alright. I'm putting on my movie." Luke then pressed play on his movie on choice, and set the laptop back to its original watching spot.
"Wow." She whispered to him. "You really thought you were getting away with this-"
"Shh!" He pressed his index finger on her lips, which caused sparks to fly. Luke quickly moved his hand away, acting like that didn't just happen.
"Okay then." Dani said quietly.
"Christmastime is here, happiness and cheer. Fun for all that children call their favorite time of the year..."
Dani sang softly to the song, despite earlier making fun of the choice of movie. She would sing louder, but she didn't want to ruin the movie for Luke, although he would gladly listen to her sing anytime.
"You know, you should really sing out more." Luke whispered to her, leaving her by surprise.
"Oh, no, no." She shook her head. "No."
"Do I have to say it again?" He asked. "Your voice is amazing."
"Stop doing that." Dani said as she blushed like a tomato.
"Doing what?" Luke raised an eyebrow, oblivious to what she meant.
"Complimenting me." She replied awkwardly.
Stop complimenting her? Was she insane? This was the first time that a guy was probably interested in her, and she was absolutely blowing it. "You want me to stop complimenting you?"
"Yes." Dani nodded.
"Nah, I'm good." Luke said.
"What?"
"You heard me."
"Unbelievable." She mumbled and turned back to the movie because she wasn't sure how to argue with him over something like that. Luke kept her on her toes constantly, and Dani wasn't sure whether she liked it or not.
The tension between them was razor sharp. The looks they shared way too often caused them both to have butterflies in their stomach, which they chose to ignore.
Luke had never been in such a stir over a girl ever. Sure, he's had a couple girlfriends but they nowhere near compared to the girl sitting next to him. She was different. Dare he say it, not like other girls even. It was corny to say, but it was undeniably true.
While Luke had experience, Dani had practically none. Even now when she's around boys she acts like one of the guys, and that doesn't help her case at all. Dani wasn't sure how to act around Luke, but whatever she's doing must be working cause he's stayed this long.

"Well that was short." Dani said. The "movie" ended pretty quickly, mainly because it was only about thirty minutes long.
"I know, but I still love it." Luke replied contently.
"Do you wanna pick something else that's short?" She asked. "I kinda feel bad."
"How about we get to know each other for a bit?" He proposed. "You know, ask each other questions or whatever."
"Please tell me this isn't gonna be 21 questions where you ask what's my favorite color then whether I'm a virgin or not." She rambled.
Luke, who was at a loss for words, had to take a moment before even responding. "Jeez, that was very specific."
"It's not like it's happened to me or anything!" Dani protested. It hasn't, but she's heard enough stories where it had actually happened.
"Well, are you?" Luke questioned. Dani then raised an eyebrow at him, oblivious to his question. "Am I what?"
"A virgin." He blurted, and her eyes widened the moment he said it. Dani slapped Luke's arm, which didn't hurt him at all. "Don't just ask me that!"
"You got the idea in my head!" Luke argued.
"Doesn't mean I want you to ask it!" Dani yelled.
"Are you though?" He asked.
"I'm not telling you that!" She crossed her arms. The truth was that she was a virgin, but she was sparing herself the embarrassment since there's a hot guy right next to her.
"Alright, alright." Luke let it go, since Dani was clearly getting flustered. It was cute, but he wasn't trying to torture the girl. "Let me ask this though, why don't you like it when I compliment you?"
"No comment." Dani looked away, arms still crossed.
"Answer the question." He somewhat demanded. It wasn't harsh, but it wasn't nice either.
"Do I have to?" She pouted, trying to get herself out of this.
"I could ask much worse, so yes, answer it." Luke said. He wasn't lying when he said he could ask worse questions, but what's worse than asking a girl whether she's a virgin or not?
"Fine..." Dani sighed. "I guess it's because I'm just not used to, like, this type of male attention."
"Why is that? You're beaut-" He took that back. It was too soon. "Pretty. You're very pretty."
Dani ignored the small compliment and went off about her past. "Well when I was in high school I wasn't allowed to date, and even if I could, I was still never really that girl, ya know?"
"That girl?" Luke questioned. What did she mean by "that girl"?
"You know..." She trailed off. "The girl that always gets all the guys. The popular girl."
"Nope." He shook his head. "I don't believe you."
"It's true!" Dani exclaimed. "No guy has ever really taken interest in me. They always wanted a short, blonde, white girl."
She wasn't lying. The guys at her old high school would say that girls like Dani weren't "their type." It was bullshit, really. They were seriously missing out, even if she wasn't allowed to date.
"Well those guys are idiots. You're beautiful." Luke blurted. No going back on that even if it was the truth.
"I'm beautiful?" She questioned him, her cheeks turning ruby red for the millionth time.
"Of course you are." He smiled at her. "Any sane guy would think so too."
"Wow, uh, thanks." Dani blushed, tucking a piece of hair behind her ear. "You're, um, beautiful too."
"Oh, am I?" Luke teased.
"I'm trying to be nice!" Dani rolled her eyes. No, she was just too awkward for her own good.
"Well I'll take the compliment." He grinned.
The two shared a look for a few seconds, and they both questioned what was next. They weren't sure what this exactly was, but they sure wanted to find out. They liked each other's company, and it could definitely be good for them later.
Their little moment ended when Dani's hair plopped in front of her face, and she attempted to blow it out of the way. "Stupid hair."
"I love your hair." Luke said.
"You do?" She asked.
"It suits you very well." He added. He sure knew how to swoon a girl.
"Wow, this is compliment central, isn't it?" Dani giggled, which Luke found adorable.
"I speak nothing but facts." He spoke confidently in his statement. Dani had to be hands down the most attractive girl he'd ever met inside and out.
"I suppose so." She shrugged.
There was silence for a few moments, since they both weren't sure what to say next. Luke was tempted to make a move, but decided not to since he wanted to take the opportunity to actually know her.
"Wanna make some hot cocoa?" Dani asked to break the silence. "There's a microwave down the hall."
"Oh, uh, sure." Luke replied then stood up and stretched since he had done lots of sitting.
Dani got out of bed, stretching as well. For a moment she began to shiver, since she wasn't under the blanket anymore. Luke decided to grab his leather jacket and hand it to her.
"What's this for?" She questioned obliviously.
"You're cold. Wear it." He said. Dani took the jacket and put it on, and it practically swamped her thin frame. At the moment Luke's heart wanted to burst since she looked pretty damn good in it, but he shook those feelings aside.
They went down the hall with no shoes (but of course with socks) to the student kitchen, which was open despite practically everyone leaving for winter break.
"Tell me, what's your last name?" Dani asked as they were walking.
"Hemmings." Luke answered. "And yours?"
"Barnes. Like Bucky Barnes." She replied. If she had a dollar for every time someone compared her last name to the famous Marvel character, she could probably buy herself anything she ever dreamed of.
"I love the Winter Solider." He grinned.
"I think I'm obligated to love him," She laughed. "but then again Sebastian Stan is pretty hot."
"Not beautiful like me?" Luke poked at her.
"Shut up." Dani rolled her eyes.
"I'm just messing with you." Luke assured her.
"Of course." She grunted.
"Awe, don't be mad." He said with puppy eyes.
"I'm not mad." Dani scoffed. Once they made it to the student kitchen, Dani began to heat up some water, and opened up the cocoa mixture. "I know the marshmallows that come with these suck, but a marshmallow is a marshmallow."
"Swiss Miss isn't even that great to begin with." Luke scoffed. "It's nasty, cheap bullshit."
"Yet you've decided to drink it." Dani sassed him.
"Only for you." Instead of saying that in his head, Luke accidentally spoke it out loud, immediately wanting to slap himself silly after realizing it.
"Only for me, huh?" She raised an eyebrow. Now it was her turn to tease instead of always being teased.
"T-that's not what I meant-"
"Sure it wasn't." Dani smirked then finished making the hot chocolate. "Your nasty, cheap bullshit, sir."
"Wow, thanks." He said and took the cup. Luke then began drinking the hot chocolate, not particularly enjoying it.
Dani took a sip of hers, then quickly realized something. "Wait a minute."
Luke stopped drinking down his drink and questioned what she was going to say. "What?"
"Are you only drinking this so you can make me drink eggnog later?" She asked. Dani totally caught him red handed, and he couldn't even deny it
"You got me." Luke chuckled.
"You're something else, Hemmings."
"Same goes to you, Barnes."
