Who Is Jesus Christ? (Part One)

It can easily be said that Jesus Christ is the entire crux of Christianity, which literally means "Christ like" or "little Christ." So, understanding who He is is extremely important.

First and foremost, Jesus Christ is God. The Bible makes this very clear. Jesus Christ did not go around, as far as we know, shouting from the roof tops, "I am God" (as that could be used to execute Him on charges of blasphemy), but the Bible supports this idea.

The book of John was written to prove that Jesus Christ was God. If anyone reading this doubts Jesus Christ is God, I would strongly recommend reading John as well as praying that God would reveal the truth to you, whatever it may be.

John 1:1 and 14 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God... And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

So, this Word that was God, is said to be made flesh, which is Jesus Christ.

Later Jesus Christ says "I and [my] Father are one." in John 10:30. In Greek, this literally means Jesus and God the Father are made of the same thing. To make it more clear, the Jewish people nearly killed Him, saying He was making Himself God in that statement, which in their eyes was blasphemy.

John 10:31-33 - Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.

They knew it was more than Jesus and the Father agreed, but rather that they were the one and the same.

Jesus Christ is also called the Creator of all things, and that all things exist for His glory. This is not possible unless Jesus Christ is God.

Colossians 1:16-17 - For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

Jesus Christ is also the leader of the church, the chief cornerstone.

Ephesians 2:20 - And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

Colossians 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

Isaiah also prophesies that the Messiah (Jesus Christ) would be God, equal and the same as the Father.

Isaiah 9:6 - For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Jesus Christ is worshiped as God, and while in the Bible men are either killed, degraded, or condemned for accepted worship that only God deserves ESPECIALLY if they know better like Herod (as discussed in the last chapter), Jesus Christ was never punished for accepting the worship of God.

Matthew 2:11 - And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh

Matthew 28:8-9 - And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word. And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.

John 20:28 - And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

So, Jesus Christ was not just a teacher or a prophet, but God Himself. As seen though in the previous chapter, He was not one of many gods or someone who unlocked the divine already in Him or one of the many avatars of a universal God. He is the only Creature ever to be both God and man, not man proudly becoming God, but God humbling Himself to become a man.
