Which Bible Should We Use? (2)

Perhaps we should look at what these two manuscripts say differently than the Greek and Hebrew that the King James uses.

Many verses are either removed or put as footnotes in the newer Bibles because the do not appear in the other two. This includes 1 John 5:7"For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one." a key verse to proving the Trinity. While some Bibles do put these as footnotes, they are treated often as inferior text to the rest of the Bible.

The other Bibles also say very different things. The King James says in Proverbs 18:24 -"A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother."

Here are some other Bible versions

NIV - "One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother."

NLT - "There are 'friends' who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother."

ESV - "A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother."

While the end matches up, the beginning is quite different. The KJV says we should be friendly, the NIV and NLT that there are bad friends, and the ESV that it is bad to have many friends. Why? Because as shown in the last chapter, the Bible verses come from two totally different places.

Other things are not as major, but still show different ideas. Psalm 23:6a is an example.

KJV "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me..."

NIV "Surely your goodness and love will follow me..."

Now, love and mercy are two very different ideas. Yes, God is still loving and merciful, regardless of what is placed in that verse, but that can cause problems still as each word God uses is important.

I do believe people who use non-KJV Bibles love God and can still serve Him. I do think though, to be at our most efficient, we ought to use a Bible that is translated from a consistent, accurate that does not remove and change key verses to our faith. Therefore, I do recommend that we use the King James Bible in personal study, teaching, preaching, and soul winning.
