Marriage (1)
The Bible says that marriage is a good thing. It is something that is neither required to serve God, nor is it frowned upon if one does not married. God does say that there are benefits and drawbacks in each, though, as well as certain things we should do if we do get married.
First, the Bible says that in some ways being single can be better as one don't have to worry about if his or her children or spouse's wants and needs will interfere with us doing things for God.
1 Corinthians 7:32-34: But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord: But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife. There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.
It also says that when humans go to heaven, there will be no marriage, so marriage really helps one more in this life than in the next.
Matthew 22:30 - For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.
1 Corinthians 7:29 - But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none;
While it is not bad to marry, it is good for a person to keep these things in mind when they do so, as well as for people to know that being single is just as good and profitable as marriage is made out to be.
At the same time though, marriage has many benefits. First, God says that if a person can not live without fulfilling themselves physically, get married. It's not a sin, and it's better to be married than to live frustrated physically.
1 Corinthians 7:8-9 - I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, it is good for them if they abide even as I. But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.
Hebrews 13:4 - Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.
Married couples can also have biological children. Having children and grandchildren is something many people desire.
Genesis 9:7 - And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein.
In the end, both ways are good. God calls some people to marry and others to remain single. Either way, a person can still serve God and do great things for Him.
Proverbs 18:22 - [Whoso] findeth a wife findeth a good [thing], and obtaineth favour of the LORD.
1 Corinthians 1:7 - For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.
1 Corinthians 7:27-28 - Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife. But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh: but I spare you.
