Judging Others (1)

Judging is a very controversial part of Christianity, but something that must be addressed. The biggest question about it from Christians and non-Christians is is it ok to judge and if so when and how?

The Bible says several things about judging, Eventually in the end, all will be judged by God, but that is a topic to be expounded upon at a later date.

The main topic of this chapter is man judging. When it comes to man judging, the Bible actually says quite a lot. Christ our Lord says that Christians should never judge under two circumstances. First, if they themselves are not willing to face judgment for their own faults, and second if they themselves are under the sin they are judging.

Matthew 7:1-6 - Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

Secondly, Christians are not supposed to judge people when it comes to preferences that have nothing to do with right and wrong. For example, some Christians celebrate Christmas because they want to honor the birth of Christ. Others believe that Christmas has to many pagan influences though and won't celebrate it. God says that each person should be confident in what they believe and not judge the other person for what they choose. So, for things the Bible is ambiguous about such as makeup, homeschooling vs public school, video games, television, and such should never be judged by a Christian. God says this is because each Christian is accountable to God for their behavior, not the other Christians.

Colossians 2:16 - Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

Romans 14:4-5 - Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand. One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.

Though there are certainly stipulations on judging, this does not mean Christians may never judge anything ever. When a Christian does judge though, they must always consider the things mentioned above.
