Christian Growth (2)
Besides the aforementioned purposes of life, Christians can expand their personal relationship with God in two ways, reading the Bible and praying.
Reading the Bible is looked at as one way God talks to us, and every Christian is desired by God to not only read it, but to study and memorize it.
Psalm 1:1-2 - Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
Psalm 119:11 - Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
Matthew 4:4 - But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
2 Timothy 2:15 - Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Besides this though, is prayer. A Christian ought to pray to God just as often as they read the Bible. Through prayer, we talk to God. We can praise Him, thank Him, tell Him we our sorry for sin, and ask Him for what we need and want. Prayer ought not to be repeated prayers of others, as God says this is a heathen practice, but it is to be from our hearts to Him.
Luke 11:9 - And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
Philippians 4:6 - Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
1 Thessalonians 5:7 - Pray without ceasing.
Matthew 6:7 - But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen [do]: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
