Abortion
Abortion is a sensitive and often debated topic. While I believe there are many non-Christians, as in religiously neutral, who can have varying valuable stances on abortion, when someone is a Christian, I believe the Bible has a very clear message on how one should view it. While I may address the more neutral stances in another book Answers From a Christian, this will be presenting what the Bible seems to say about it.
To start, as a principle, human life is important in Christianity. Though popular among Western Christians, ancient Christians are shown being strongly against war, the death penalty, and abortion because they believed all human life was equally sacred in the eyes of God. This value is considered more important than any other right or justification a person may have. The right to my property does not justify me killing to protect it, even though it is still an important right. Human life overrides this right.
The argument for Christians then is not if human life should be valued at all costs, but when does human life begin? There are many things in the Bible that hint that this is at conception
The Bible talks about how God has plans for humans before they are born.
Isiah 19:1-2 Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The Lord hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. And he hath made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand hath he hid me, and made me a polished shaft; in his quiver hath he hid me;
Jeremiah 1:5 - Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, [and] I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
It also talks about how miscarried children go to heaven.
Job 3:16-19 - Or as an hidden untimely birth I had not been; as infants which never saw light. There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the weary be at rest. There the prisoners rest together; they hear not the voice of the oppressor. The small and great are there; and the servant is free from his master.
Therefore, the Bible implies greatly that the unborn have eternal souls that go to heaven and that the Lord has plans for their lives before their birth. Abortion violates both of these things.
There are only two verses in the Bible that people use to justify abortion. One is under the Old Testament law.
Numbers 5:21-22 - Then the priest shall charge the woman with an oath of cursing, and the priest shall say unto the woman, The LORD make thee a curse and an oath among thy people, when the LORD doth make thy thigh to rot, and thy belly to swell; And this water that causeth the curse shall go into thy bowels, to make thy belly to swell, and thy thigh to rot: And the woman shall say, Amen, amen.
In the passage, nowhere is it mentioned that a woman would miscarry or abort her child. It does mention that her body will rot, but that is not the same thing. While some will translate that the womb miscarries, this is nowhere to be found in the original Hebrew, but merely something that people have chosen to read into the passage and therefore choose to translate it that way.

Even if it was talking about miscarrying, this still does not justify abortion for Christians as this is under the Old Testament law. Divorce was also all allowed under the Old Testament, yet we all know now under the revelations of Christ that these were all temporary things brought about by the hardness of our own hearts. While the law can teach us things, it is not our standard of right and wrong now.
Secondly, is a verse in psalms mentioning that certain pregnant women would be disemboweled in war.
Hosea 13:16 - Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.
If someone were to take this as permission to abort fetuses, then, may I ask, is it also alright to murder children and fight in war? Of course not! Jesus Christ is against hatred and violence and for peace and love. This verse does not justify abortion any more than it does murder and war. Neither is this a command of God. All this verse is is a prophecy/proclamation of what is matter of factually going to happen.
As a final thought, merely because the Bible does not support abortion, does not mean that God hates women or thinks that as soon as they are born Christians should do nothing to help. Christians should do their best to help the born as well as they unborn, provide support for single parents, and help in the foster care and adoption system. If we wish to help end abortion, we need to look at why abortions are happening in the first place and start working there.
