Gossip pt. 2
People talk about you, and I know it's a stressful thing to be the main topic of everything, in school, online, anywhere, really. Especially if people are saying mean things about you. Don't try to get "revenge," or anything like that, because that's wrong, and all you will be doing is sinking to their level. No matter how mean they are to you, return their mean words with kind words, return their hate with love, return their gossip with saying nice things behind their back. People will hurt you and gossip about you, but guess what? God knows all about it. He knows what they're doing. He sees it all, and it doesn't please Him. Gossip is a sin, and no one should gossip about anyone else. Talk to God about it. Tell Him how you feel and tell Him that you feel bad about it and you want it to stop. Here are some ways of feeling better when people are gossiping about you:
1. Tell a trusted adult about it.
2. Pray about it constantly.
3. Be kind to anyone who is involved in the gossip party.
4. Do not try to get revenge and hurt the person who is treating you wrong, because once you hurt their feelings, it won't feel good to you. It'll make you feel worse.
5. When they're being mean to you, tell a teacher, parent, youth pastor, or whoever you trust.
6. Don't let your friends get involved and try to fix things, because if you fight back it'll make things worse. Don't tell your friends if you can help it, just tell an adult that you trust.
7. Be careful about who you trust. You never know if someone will tell everyone your biggest secrets and make everyone hate on you. Whoever gossips with you, can just as easily gossip about you.
Gossip hurts the Body of Christ. It divides, it slanders, it produces strife, it separates friends, and it is sin. If you are thinking about gossiping about someone or saying something mean to someone, don't do it. Once you say something, they can only be forgiven and not forgotten. It will stick with you and the person you are gossiping about and being mean to maybe for the rest of your lives.
Now let's see what the Bible has to say about this.
Proverbs 16:28
"A froward man soweth strife:
and a whisperer separateth chief friends."
Proverbs 20:9
"He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets:
therefore meddle not with him that flattereth
with his lips."
Genesis 50:20
"But as for you, ye thought evil against me;
but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as
it is this day, to save much people alive."
Matthew 5:44
"But I say unto you, love your enemies,
bless them that curse you, do good to them that
hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you,
and persecute you;"
Proverbs 11:12-15
"He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbour:
but a man of understanding holdeth his peace.
A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful
spirit concealeth the matter. Where no counsel is, the people fall:
but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.
He that is surety for a stranger shall smart for it: and he that
hateth suretiship is sure."
