Priceless
"Waaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!"
The cries of a newborn baby echoed across the hallway, to where Luke and his wife Courtney were sleeping.
"The baby's crying." Luke muttered, not opening his eyes.
"I just fed her not long ago. It's your turn to get her. Probably need a change." Courtney said as she pushed her husband so he would get up.
Luke sighed. He got up and tiredly walked to the room of their 5 week old, Charlotte.
He entered the nursery, which was rainbow themed. After all, Charlotte had been their rainbow baby. He walked over to the crib, and gently picked up Charlotte.
"Oh sweetheart what's wrong? You are gonna wake up your brothers." Luke smelled her, and scrunched up his face. "Your mom was right, you do need a change." Luke brought Charlotte to the change table and proceeded in changing her diaper. Once he was done, he picked Charlotte up and walked over to the rocking chair and sat down. He knew Charlotte was not going to fall asleep right away. He looked down at his baby girl, who was a lot happier now, and smiled. Charlotte was his and Courtney's 4th baby, but she was their first daughter. He of course was excited to have a daughter after 3 boys (3 sweet boys, of course), but didn't totally understand the fact that the emotions of having a daughter were different from a son. But he did when he met her. Right away, he fell in love with this little beauty, who had her finger wrapped around him from the get go. He promised he would always protect her, although he knew with 3 older brothers she would be pretty well protected. As Luke sat their rocking in the chair, holding his daughter in his arms, he thought of a song. A song which was always important to him, but now, with a daughter, had a completely different meaning.
He started to sing.
I see you dressed in white
Every wrong made right
I see a rose in bloom
At the sight of you
Oh so priceless
Irreplaceable
Unmistakable
Incomparable
Darling it's beautiful
I see it all in you
One Year Later
Joel Smallbone has been many things.
Son.
Brother.
Friend.
Musician.
Husband.
Actor.
But one thing he never really thought he would ever be was a father.
It's not that they didn't want kids, although there were times when Joel felt more open to the idea than Moriah did, it's just that the both of them were so busy with their musics careers and touring, that having child just seemed like something that would only add on to the craziness.
But then, it happened.
Moriah was pregnant.
They definitely were surprised. They were not trying, nor planing, for a child.
But it seemed God had other plans. So Joel and Moriah prepared for the arrival of this child, despite worries about the future.
It wasn't that Joel was worried about being a good father. No, he knew he would be, everyone else knew he would be, too. No, he was simply worried that they would never have the time to truly be a family, that their would never be quiet, intimate moments between him and his child, that their would be a disconnect.
But then, she arrived. She arrived and everything changed.
When Hanna arrived, Joel and Moriah's lives changed forever. For the first time in a long time, they were able to slow down, and not focus so much on the future. Joel, of course, cried when he held his daughter for the first time. She was so tiny, yet she was able to open a part of his heart he never knew he had. His love for her was endless, and he promised that he would always be there for her, to protect her.
And now here he was. In Hanna's nursery, rocking back and forth in the rocking chair, holding his two month old in his arms. Moriah was taking a much needed nap, and Hanna had been fussing, so Joel went to her room to comfort her. He smiled at the little girl who slept peacefully in his arms. As he looked at her, he started to him a song. The humming then turned into soft singing.
No matter what you've heard
This is what you're worth
More than all the money or the diamonds and pearls
Oh, this is who you are
Yeah, this is who you are
So when it's late
You're wide awake
Too much to take
Don't you dare forget that in the pain
You can be brave
Hear me say
I see you dressed in white
Every wrong made right
I see a rose in bloom
At the sight of you
Oh, so priceless
Irreplaceable, unmistakable, incomparable
Darling, it's beautiful
I see it all in you
Oh, so priceless
