The lone skeleton of an exclusively human village

Where a lonely monster thief is introduced to the story, steals a bread and gains an unexpected treasure along strange visions, all while pirates dangerously approach his village.

Fate is differently written for us all
Like books, they don't have same call
It had been written to stay enemies at first
But seeing you I felt fast beats inside my chest

That feeling has so weird plans sometimes
And it brought us closer despite the kind
Maybe the hate can be vanished between us
How I wish I will never loose you so fast

Please don't leave me alone my love
Because your the one who stole my heart
Please don't leave me alone my love
I'm ressurected when you hold my hand

Somewhere the Fate had said for us
That we will be together, no matter what
If I knew of this early maybe I would've try to deny it
Now I thank Fate for bringing me to you and I can't lie

It doesn't matter what and who we are
With an eye contact I lost the battle against love

Please don't leave me alone my love
Because your the one who stole my heart
Please don't leave me alone my love
I'm ressurected when you hold my hand

Probably it's not for us too late
we can still fight all the hate
Hand by hand we can fix every dissent
Your kind and mine can have a happy end

Please don't leave me alone my love
Because your the one who stole my heart
Please don't leave me alone my love
I'm ressurected when you hold my hand

No one's POV:

A few stars were still up to the sky while the sun was ready to rise from the sea when the small and young skeleton dressed in white woke up. Like always. For years he would wake up to not loose the sunrises. For him, he could still find it as the most beautiful time of the day.

The calm, the serenity and how quiet nature was then, helped him think clearly while everyone was still asleepThe skeleton was thinking alone, always. He had no one in the world. Once he had his 2 younger brothers... but they were gone. They had died long time ago...

By pirates

He was just 14 when pirates attacked Hondarribia, the village the skeleton of the story narrated, was living. They killed anyone they found on their way. Even children. They burned down houses and it was like the literal Hell. The skeleton could still remember how he was trying to hide from them in fear and how his soul was pounding fast inside his chest (or rather ribcage. both goes)...

He hadn't see the end of it. Some explosion threw him away and burning debris knocked him out, causing him to loose his senses. When the pirates left an almost completely destroyed Hondarribia behind, when the skeleton woke up, he searched for his brothers to find them. He called. He asked for them. He pleaded and screamed in hopes they would hear him and come to him.

But he found no brother. No one.

He had stayed all alone because of them! The pirates. The only family he had left was himself onlyFrom that day onwardhis tears (yes skeletons can cry in this story alongside many other things, simple and more complicated) dried out from grief and his most inner feelings stayed well hidden and away from any people's eyes.

The hatred he had developed though. It was a weird detail. Ever since the skeleton was very young he had started having his own perception. A negative one. He was feeling that. For someone. Without a reason. But when he heard about pirates and what they could do, it became for him something simple.

To hate them. In fact he hated them so much sometimes he wondered what the Hell was wrong with himselfBut with the attack Hondarribia accepted... Oooh, but then he had a real reason to hate the pirates, not a blank one! Somehow that hatred would keep the skeleton alive, to continue live and fight.

To survive even in his miserable life. Miserable and hard. He didn't have any guardians to take care of him, he didn't have his brothers anymore, besides he wasn't a baby! He was of 21 years oldA skeleton who just one day had ended up mysteriously in Hondarribia, which in the time and era of this story, it was a village determined exclusively for humans.

~

As magic cooexists in this world and fits through the real human history, villages were seperated in human and monster ones mainly. Which meant that if for example a monster was entering a human village, it wasn't really welcomed. Sometimes it would get kicked out immediately.

Other times its existence would be ignored and let it stay around, but wouldn't have any rights. Not even be allowed buy stuff. At the end, the behavior of the human villagers were kicking a monster outThe monster villages were far less in number than those of human ones.

However the word 'exclusive' wasn't really counting for them because there weren't just a few times where humans would just bust in villages and do as they pleased. Especially if they were human soldiers send by Governments to 'check up' on the populations and make sure they weren't going to cause trouble.

Then there were the mixed villages, or rather communities, where humans and monsters weren't so far away from each other. These were part of Governments mainly, or differently said, of the most powerful countries of the era.

For example Portugal. In this era, mainly Lisbon was seperated in 2 parts, in humans' side of the town and monsters' side of townThe higher authorities were allowing this 'cooexistence', with the monsters swearing loyalty and giving services to the humans.

That way Portugal had except from its army, another special one simply called 'Monster Guard', the strongest of monsters with a little more rights than other ones as long as they could be and were serving the human King.

But it is not the time yet to discuss about Portugal's system. We're supposed to be in the Northwest of Spain where our protagonist is.

~

The skeleton was of 7 years old and his brothers of 5 and 4 when the humans of Hondarribia woke up one day and just saw 3 small skeleton children sleeping on the streets. They weren't heartless enough actually to just kick them out, so they ignored their existence. For the most part at least.

As long as the skeleton had his brothers he was happy enough to live and even give a few services to the humans, gaining enough of their favor and trust. After all they were also cute enough (cause once again, the skeleton monsters ain't looking realistic like the normal ones) and they managed to somehow make their living.

Though it had stayed a mystery of who they were. There weren't a few times humans had asked the little skeletons where were their parents. The answer was always the same.

They couldn't remember them.

In fact they couldn't remember a single thing about themselves before they woke up in Hondarribia. Just their names and that they were brothersBut that didn't bother them much. As long as they were together, they were satisfied.

The skeleton of our story anyways had lived 7 years alone with his brothers and 7 more without their company. After the pirate attack he never relied on anyone and never allowed people to approach him. But for a living, instead of helping people around, he learned how to stealAt first it was definitely hard.

He was getting hit sometimes by jugs or stones on his head if anyone would throw at him. Most children didn't really like him in particular, especially after the pirate attack. When they would see him, they would start throwing stones at him. Because the skeleton looked like an apparition as he was dressed in white, except from his old and trimmed red scarf.

Because of how sick he looked for a skeleton and how the pupil inside his eyesocket seemed sick too, kind of grey instead of white. Because of his damaged eyesocket which was covered by some kind of magic cloud even from the day he arrived in Hondarribia.

Because people knew that beneath his clothes his body was covered in bandages which were hiding cracked and shattered bones, with small pieces missing here and thereBut more over, because of the never-healing red slash he had across his chest, a painful reminder from the attack that caused the loss of his brothers.

It hurt the skeleton getting hit by anything the humans were getting their hands on, but learned how to be more careful and soon, stealing was his second nature. He also had become good enough at dodging attacks and pain had become his best teacher, forcing him to learn how to defend himself more properly.

Especially against the people he was mainly stealing food from, like the greengrocer, the fishermen, the baker and mostly the butcher. Speaking of them, the skeleton was going to steal bread from the baker.

skip this part until the next wavy line if you don't want to read this non-related with the story information.

I know what you're going to ask. Why would the skeleton even need food if he don't have a stomach? Well, believe it or not he needed it. Even monsters of his class and category need food to survive, just not as much as other monsters which seem to have more physical appearances. And stomachs.

And where the Hell does the food even go-?

Magic✋🏽

Magic helps monsters to live for the most part without things a normal human or animal being would need. However there are times where magic is needed to 'mimic' certain things.

Like tongue. Yes. I have seen other cartoon, anime etc. where some beings 'just work' without even having some stuff. I have seen other cartoon skeletons just being able to speak without tongues.

Which could be explained with the very same factor I'm trying to explain things. Magic. But magic in this story is capable in some cases to take necessary forms. When a monster which naturally isn't meant to have tongue needs to speak, a 'magic tongue' can form.

Because the logic of this world says that without one, no one would even be able to swallow well enoughThat magic tongue is capable of understanding flavors and temperatures just like a normal tongue, but dissapears and reappears at will and when necessary.

Or when the monster falls asleep deeplyFine then. Since a monster like a skeleton is capable of making a tongue, is it able to make some kind of stomach too?

Not really. That one ain't necessary. The ingestion of food works differently too for them. The food doesn't even have to go down to a stomach. Once food is accepted in the mouth, if the tongue recognises it as something safe to consume, it simply vanishes it.

The beneficial parts of the food become energy the monster needs, it courses through the body and keeps the body and soul strong and alive.

And then what about reproductions-?

That is for another day✋🏽😳. I preached you enough if you've actually read all of the above. But the faster I get rid of such information, the less will need to be explained later ahead, which means more storyline and lore will be in store for you.

Now I will try to keep this the last time I slip away from the story. Let's get back to it.

~

The one human the skeleton had the most conflicts with was the baker. That because he was the easiest to steal food from. No matter what the poor human did to catch the skeleton and stop him once and for all from stealing, the monster would always escape him succesfully and hide until things were cooling down.

As the skeleton walked down the streets, the village was waking up. Windows started to open, allowing light to enter the houses. Humans started going out and walking around the streets too, slowly giving life to the village. Stores were opening too.

The skeleton would observe the crowd, looking around him. So many years in this village, he recognised them all. Uneccesary to say he was bored of seeing the same people again and again. He wanted to get out of here! Well, not just from boredom.

He had to make sure that no soldiers were around. With so many robberies he was a little wanted. Annoying, but at least they've never managed to arrest him. He knew from where they would pass through. He could memorise the patterns in people's behavior.

And that was giving him advantage to know when trouble was near. The skeleton suddenly stopped and turned sharply 180 degrees around, at the very last moment catching with one hand a stone thrown at him.

He watched coldly as a bunch of small children were glaring at him, holding more stones. One of the many annoying 'gangs' of children that would try hit him from behind, mocking him about his appearance and scars.

The skeleton used a scarier face. Seeing this the children got the skeleton's silent but clear and loud message to not provoke him any further and turned around. The monster let the stone fall on the ground and kept going his way.

He sighed and kept going down the road. Why did he have to look so fragile? And be born small?! He was a grown adult even for skeleton years and yet he looked like a 10 year old in height!

Finally, the skeleton reached his destination. The bakery. He just opened the door even though there was a literal label saying,

NO MONSTERS

ESPECIALLY SKELETONS

The little bell above the door, made a cute sound. People were already inside the bakery and bying the fresh bread of the day. The skeleton saw a random man followed by 2 little boys as he was choosing what bread to buy. For just a fleeing moment, the skeleton felt a tight in his soul. But as fast as that tight came, it left him too.

Even though treated so badly by other children, the skeleton didn't really hate them. Quite the opposite in fact, if life was allowing him to, he wouldn't mind having his own family somewhere else, with a good monster lady and their kids, no matter how many.

Too good to ever come true he often thought bitterly. He looked around the room and his still good eyesocket fell at the baker, a fat and almost red human who was reading a newspaper. But the skeleton knew he wasn't reading a thing.

He saw for a very fleeing moment his eye looking at him, quickly still pretending that he was reading. Yes, the skeleton could smell from the small holes on his face between his eyesockets and mouth which were serving as his nose, that the baker had new troubles to stop him from stealing.

"This guy... if you can't spy without me understanding you, then don't!" He thought rolling his eyesocket. But pretending to be clueless of the trap, he walked towards some loafs of bread. He just stared at them. At the same time he was still keeping his attention at the baker, who was still 'reading'.

A few seconds later the skeleton decided he stood long enough doing nothing and he focused more on the loafs, ready to just grab one and take his leave as fast as possible. The moment he was ready for that however, something heavy fell and grabbed his shoulder. That surprised the monster and turned his head to look behind him.

A tall and full of muscles man was holding him motionless, staring at him sarcastically and triumphantly, with an idiotic smile. Some of his teeth were broken. At last the baker approached the skeleton and the buff guy with the same triumphant smile, except it looked even uglier on him.

"Well well well. Good job Nick, you grabbed the mouse. And I think the mouse needs to be punished right?" The skeleton did a small attempt to escape. Useless. The Nick guy was holding him tightlyThe baker smiled wider. Now the monster realised that the people in the bakery were watching, waiting for the outcome.

"Just beautiful..."

"But..." The baker continued. "... I will give you the choice about your punishment. What do you think mouse? Do you want to properly work on my bakery until you pay for aaall the times you have stolen from me... or you prefer the soldiers?" He said and for a little while the skeleton thought that he would laugh like a maniac in the bakery😂. But he wasn't really anxious.

He had knowledge of how to handle the situation. He was startled for a little while, alright. But that wouldn't stop him from saving himself going to jail or work for that fat*ss! The skeleton made a sad face and looked at the baker.

"Ok baker. You think you've won. It would look like I have to work. And be useful for once. Right. But there is one detail you didn't take care for."

"And what is this detail?" The baker asked sarcastically.

"This!" The small monster suddenly said and stepped on Nick's foot. He actually made him start screaming like a little girl and he took his hand off his shoulder. "Tch tch tch. So long as I'm standing on my feet, you need to make sure that you forbid me from being able to use them too." The skeleton proceeded to grab a loaf of bread and turned to escape.

"Don't let him escape!" The baker screamed. Nick turned at the skeleton and tried to grab himBut the monster was a lot faster. Dodging to the left and right, jumping back, even doing a flip, in which he kicked Nick's face causing him to stumble back!

He landed on his feet succesfully still holding the loaf and smiled triumphantly. The 2 boys that were escorting their dad watched in awe at the skeleton and his skills. Temporarily the monster looked at them and winked, already celebrating his small victory.

Behind you~

At the very last moment the skeleton's reflexes saved him when he turned sharply and avoided the baker who had walked from behind and swung a big bat at him. Suddenly he felt he wasn't controlling his body.

For when he grabbed the baker from his arm, when he pulled him, when he threw him at Nick who hadn't even prevent to attack, when the 2 men literally flew above the counter of the bakery and hit the shelves, with many loafs of bread raining down on them and covering them, that was fast! But more over that was...

Terrifying.

The people around watched at the skeleton in shock, a few in fear. But the monster was way too busy staring at his hands. Shocked. The pupil inside his eyesocket, that greyish orb of magic had dissapeared, leaving a hollow darkness.

It had happen again. It wasn't the first time. Where he was suddenly getting the craziest of reflexes. Where he could hear voices warning him of things he wouldn't have been able to see by himself on time.

Where suddenly... he wasn't feeling like himself.

"CATCH THAT LANDLUBBER PIRATE!" The baker yelled enraged as he was trying to unbury himself from the loafs of breadBut everyone was still way too shocked to do anything. How ironic to be called a landlubber pirate. Considering how much the skeleton hated pirates. But maybe the baker was... right?

No.

No...

Pirates were doing way worse things than just stealing breadsThe skeleton stepped back and sharply turned, opened the door of the bakery and exited. He ran as fast as his little feet allowed him to, while the baker's voice followed him, a very angry scream.

"GEEENOOO!"

And here I wondered what was I forgetting to mention!

The skeleton's name of course!

Geno, our little skeleton, kept running with the loaf under one armpit, not satsfied to the slightest for his success. He had again a 'moment'. But this time it was way more intensive than before. Something new had happened. Suddenly he was able to throw heavy stuff, anything heavy as if he had the strength of many tall and strong men together despite he looked like a kid.

He had... literally thrown the baker as if he was empty sack above his head! He had possibly injured him way worse than he would ever want. And he never meant to cause such physical harm to people (aside the kick he gave nick).

"What is wrong with me?! I could have... almost killed him! What is wrong with me, what is wrong with me, what is wrong-?!" As the skeleton was having these thoughts while running, he wasn't careful of his surroundings and suddenly bumped into someone. He fell on the ground and the loaf rolled a few steps away"Owww!" He did as he stood up. "Sorry Sir or Miss I didn't mean to-..."

But there was no one.

"What the?..." Geno thought and looked aroundNo one.

But he was pretty sure he had bumped into somebody! He kept trying to locate him. Or her? He couldn't see characteristics, he only saw for a fleeing moment just a dark purple apparition? Soon, something else caught his attention. Something shining on the ground.

"What is this thing?" Geno  thought and approached it, pretending to look elsewhere and forgetting the loaf of bread. Sharply he kneeled, took the shiny object and crammed it in his trouserspocket.

It wouldn't be a wise move to show it for long in common area. He had to hide first, then check it out by himself. He ran for about 5 minutes or so, changing directions and doing a confusing raceFinally he decided to stop near the port.

He looked around to make sure no one was around watching him. Then he hid behind some wrapped up nets of the fishermen, who weren't here. Geno stood motionless to gain back his energy after running nonstopping.

His ribcage was hurting from fatique, the equivalent of someone who has actual lungs and needs more air after doing something that requires energy. Like running. When he calmed down he looked around again. Not a single soul.

"Ok little weird glowing thing, let's see what you are and I didn't see yet well enough." Geno thought as he was pulling it out from his pocket.

With surprise he realised that the object he had picked up was a round golden necklace! Even the chain was golden! Real gold! There were small valuable gems on it, purple, green and white!

But there were also carved things on itThere were 2 figures of women with long hair and from the middle and below had... long fish tails? The woman on the left was shining golden and had her arms raised in the air. Her hands seemed to be supposed to hold something.

But whatever that was meant to be, there was a small empty hole, a little bigger than the other gems. The woman on the right seemed golden too, but when Geno looked at the necklace from a different angle, she suddenly turned dark like abuss. What kind of light tricks were these?!

"Well... What a surprise! I wonder how much is it worth!" He thought. Because if that necklace wasn't going to give him a little fortune to make perhaps a better life elsewhere, then what?! If he managed to sell it.

But as you've probably guessed already, such simple thing wasn't going to happen.

Wear it~

"Who said that?!" Geno thought surprised and looked around the area. No one was around.

Wear it~

There it was again. No way, there was no one near. Was Geno going crazy again???

Wear it~

Geno looked at the necklace, holding it with both hands. Slowly he raised it and wore it. Why did he obey to a random voice again? Maybe because it sounded like the ones that would warn him on time about dangers out of his view and attention.

In all honesty he didn't think of this for longThe small monster made sure to hide the necklace underneath his clothes and scarf. Now it wasn't visible by any eyes, but he could feel the cold metal on his chest.

"Things are getting more and more mysterious!" He thought.

And then suddenly visions started hitting him.

The time has come

You are of age

Brace yourself Geno

They're coming to get you

Don't resist the destiny that awaits you

Follow the dreams. Let them advice you

Don't deny the danger that threatens the whole world

The mermaids must not win

Save us Geno

Find the guardians chosen long ago for you

Remember who you are Geno

Remember me sweetheart

Geno had fallen backwards and crawled back until he found on wall the moment the visions started appearing and flashing in front of his eyesocket. He pressed his hands on the sides of his skull, trying to block off the voices that all at once attacked him, whispering to him many things.

He felt he remembered them all and at the same time noneBut only the last one he could keep in his memories better. That last whisper had a different voice than the previous ones. It was an echoing female voice, which felt familiar. But Geno couldn't remember where had he hear that before.

"This day can't start off any weirder!" He thought as he slowly stood up. "What the Hell happened JUST NOW?! WHY were these voices calling me by my name?!" He unburied the necklace underneath his clothing and held the pendant in his hands. This necklace! The moment he wore it he started hearing these intensive voices"Alright, that's it!" Geno shook his head annoyed.

That was stupid! Whoever gave him that necklace was playing a prank on him. One he didn't find funny at allNo, he didn't want to keep that necklace anymore. He was going to vanish it now! Yes.

The small skeleton walked on one of the wooden piers, where boats and ships use as landing stages. He looked down to the water, with low friendly waves breaking the surface. His arm held the necklace from the chain above the water. He was ready to let it go.

"SHIP FROM GALICIA! SHIP SEND BY THE KINGDOM OF GALICIA!"

The skeleton  flinched. He slowly raised head to look at the horizon. A big ship was approaching Hondarribia... A light blue flag was waving in the tallest mast. Galicia huh? What business did the royalties have with the village?

"That's too sudden. I didn't hear any news of Galician ships coming here... Oh welp, who am I to question if I ignore most of the time the humans and what they discuss?" He thought and shrugged it off.

His hand was still holding the necklace above the water. Momentarily he had forgotten about it. But then he heard that voice again, the one that called him sweetheart, repeating all he heard a while ago.

Wear it~

The time has come

Brace yourself Geno

They're coming to get you

Follow the dreams. Let them advice you

Don't resist the destiny that awaits you

Find the guardians chosen long ago for you

Remember who you are Geno

Remember who you are

Follow the ship

The first guardian awaits to meet you

He will help you begin remembering who you are

Who you were

Who your real ancestors are

A brief icon flashed before Geno's eyesocket. He saw a tall figure- a VERY tall figure staring down at him. He was covered in lots of clothing. But his face was visible. It was of another skeleton's with something sweet but melancholic on his face. And there was something else.

What was it?

It was glowing gold and bright behind that tall skeleton.

After many more seconds of hesitation and uncertainty, slowly Geno gathered his arm back and held the necklace with both hands. Once again, he wore it and hid it below his clothes. He looked again at the ship that was coming closer and closer.

Follow the ship

The first guardian awaits to meet you

He will help you begin remembering again who you are

"A guardian of some short huh? On the ship coming. And he will help me remember... who I am?" Geno suddenly felt after so long faith in the words he heard as if they were coming out of thin air.

Who was he... The curiosity to finally know the truth about himself was strong. He had wondered so many times, spend so many sleepless nights the past 7 years ever since his brothers left this world, to catch even a glimpse of past, to no avail.

He was done being miserable, having the almost same routine for the past 7 years. He was done being alone and without his brothers.

He wanted to finally enlighten the darkness that covered his past and discover whatever the Hell was going on and who he was. If he was to get in the ship, sure it could be risky. Yes the sailors of the ship approaching would most likely kill him if they spotted him trying to enter the ship.

But he didn't care. He couldn't even pretend to care about dying and doing the crazy thing he had in mind. After all, he could have a rare chance of at last getting away from the village, on a big ship and travel anywhere that wasn't Hondarribia.

Even if it was a rather hasten decision, Geno was ready to do thatEnter the ship. And possibly meet the mysterious skeleton he briefly saw, named as 'guardian'. The one who would help him answer who he was. If he was in the ship he could give him answers he wanted. He had to be extra careful of course.

"Follow the ship huh? It is time for an exciting experience." He thought and smiled confident actually.

Little did Geno know, this ship wasn't going to be an exciting experience. At all.

Sooo, 5100 words.
