Geno's POV:
-
It's bad.
Really really bad.
There are soldiers everywhere. Me and Alter are getting persuaded and attacked the moment they spot us. It is completely annoying and making me nervous when they yell at us to stop, when they start shooting bullets at us. If I was alone to face all this, I don't know for how long I could stay focused and calm.
But then again, no matter how many humans are persuading us, no matter how many more guns they have and how many bullets they shoot at us and make it seem like we're outnumbered, surprisingly we're not outmatched.
And it's all mainly thanks to Alter.
I do my best in fighting, I can take one or two soldiers down on my own. But Alter literally destroys anyone who will try to fight him. I don't know what happened to him, but it's as if suddenly he awakened some inner beast he had in him and sleeping all this time. However his usual demeanor and calmness are still there.
It's complicated to explain how can he seem still calm while literally knocking out anyone who stands our way. The pupils inside his eyesockets hasn't stopped glowing blue, cyan, grey and white. Despite he's a large almost 7ft tall target, only 5 anti-magic bullets have managed to hit him and not even anywhere near his soul.
Mainly his arms. But they didn't stop him. They never seemed to restrain his energy. It's as if these bullets are empty for him! The only sign that shows they affect him is that he breaths a little more heavily, but his movements are still stable, fast and precise. If there's one thing that shocks me the most, that is how he fights in hand in hand combat now.
Back to the ship, if I was seeing him fighting or defending himself against some other pirate who wanted to annoy him, he would always make sharp small moves, mainly using his hands and sometimes moving his legs. Smiling and talking cheerfully as if he wasn't about to snap the pirate's arm if they kept squirming or trying to hit him.
Now he's a dead serious executioner.
He punches and kicks and even headbutts the soldiers he's closer to. Unecessary to say he has gotten a big pale blue spot on his forehead. No human's heads, necks, arms, stomachs, legs and a few unlucky groins remain safe from his hits if they get too close to him.
Thanks to being taller, he could also lift the soldiers with ease and throw them at other soldiers who might were coming at him. The way he dodges, it's as if he's dancing. He literally uses the opponent's attacks against them. Like, if someone was trying to pierce him with a spear, Alter would gracefully step aside, grab and pull the spear further and make the soldier stumble.
Then he would swipe him off his feet from behind. If someone attacks with a sword, he dodges, grabs the wrist and easily unarms his opponent. This is literally food for thought to learn and pick one or 2 moves from him.
Sometimes he would do something strange. He would hit the arms of his opponents in a specific way that would make the soldiers open their hands and drop their weapons. Then their limbs would fall... as if there weren't bones in there! As Alter explained to me, that was a technique he was taught by Bai, that Chinese rabbit monster.
"If you know your enemy even better than yourself, you can beat 'em without much effort. Bai had taught me that knowing the anatomy of your opponent helps you to know which spots can make one vulnerable. Make them disabled. And so, he showed me that hitting specific spots on the body can disable temporarily the movement of limbs. In just a few moves that spares you energy but you need to be precise where you hit."
What surprised me also a lot during our escape is his good aim. If a weapon from the ones he would use was empty, he was still making good use of it. He would simply throw it with deadly accuracy towards a soldier's head, knocking him out and uncoscious. When shooting, it was as if he knew exactly where he wanted to shoot and would mainly injure legs or hands. Never any vital spot. He quite abruptly declared that to me:
"If possible Geno and in my control, I w œ π ' τ take a life. Not today, not ever, I already ð ə s ρ ı s ə myself for holding weapons and drawing the blood of our opponents, injuring them!" He had growled as he loaded another gun he had taken from a soldier.
During all this crazy combat he was rather calm, but once I asked him jokingly if he misses purposely, his mood suddenly turned upside down and he was again agressive to me. I will need this day as a reminder in case I ever forget how scary this skeleton can be.
"Where did you learn doing all that with the guns?!" I had ask him at another point of our escape.
"Doctor Ramirez convinced me that I don't have to take a life if I learn using weapons. Just to slow down or restrain someone would be enough. I still don't like it that I'm causing pain to the humans, but better than actually killing and having that burden in my soul."
Even if he was being violent, he had still the behavior and manners of the priest I knew. But that wouldn't stay for long as...

No one's POV:

"This skeleton is crazy!"
"He fights as if he is a whole army!"
"It's as if our bullets are nothing to him!"
The soldiers would yell and complain, in pain as they were accepting medical treatment and healing magic from 2 little groups of humans and monsters that had scattered to find the pirates. In one of the 2 was the Infernal siblings and Atalanta. They were listening to what the soldiers were saying as they were healing the injured humans.
"Oi! Come from this side and heal us too already you oversized reptile!" A soldier yelled rudely to a male gecko in the size of a 10-year-old from the second group. The monster was about to go towards the soldier. But Tefra stopped him.
"Ðœ yœu pərhæps wænt tœ gət həæłing łæst? Keep complaining ænđ I'łł just łət yøu ın træđıtıønal məđıcał trəætmənt æmıgø. Æπð γœυ wœπ'τ łικə ιτ ιf | ðœ ιτ." Tefra spat to that soldier with a look that was discouraging you from keep being a jerk. The soldier who complained looked down in fear bur also anger. "Take your time to heal them. Don't run after anyone who complains. They are men, they can handle the pain frøm whæt | rəməmbər thəm cønstæntły sæying før thəmsəlvəs." The small goat continued more calmly, talking to the gecko, who nodded shakily but on the last words she looked at the soldier with condemn.
She kept listening to what the soldiers were saying. They wouldn't stop talking about the tall skeleton. How fast and dangerous and agressive and and and... Yeah. She had gotten the point. Interestingly enough however there was not once any mentioning of fire magic.
"Any magic?" Pyros asked at some point.
"Just some bones and blue magic, but he would just take us out with his bare hands!"
"And our weapons!"
"Any deaths?" It suddenly occurred to Tefra. There was blood and injured soldiers, yes. But dead ones?
"As far as I know, none Senhora Tefra." A soldier answered.
"He's not... killing?" Tefra thought confused. Any pirate or criminal for that matter would just straight up kill anyone who stood their way. But Guido, or whatever his real name was? He just injured them.
"We intent not to harm anyone. That, as long as you stay out of our way. Please, don't go after him and his partner Senhora Infernal! They're dangerous! They're both from the Reapers!"
A monster witness had said that from before, hearing the tall skeleton's clear declaration and warning to the monsters that were standing near, after him and his small partner were exposed to the public. Surprisingly enough, no one had understood anything, until the smaller skeleton fell off the taller, being previously on his back pretending to be... the taller's hump.
"Raposa astutas..." The goat thought as she recalled than memory and momentarily smiled. How such peculiar plan had covered successfully the 2 skeletons for a while! "But no matter the danger, there's still a duty to complete. Whether from the most unknown pirate crew, whether the husks of the Night Ship, we shall stop them." She thought. She felt someone standing next to her.
She turned her head and saw Atalanta with a kind of hesitant and awkward posture. They didn't speak for a while as the goat just focused on healing an uncoscious soldier's head, with a huge bruise on the right of his face, assumingly whether a punch, whether a kick. The mermaid was healing his side, badly bruised, definitely had accepted a good hit there.
"... He's really holding back." Atalanta finally started. Tefra hummed. But didn't speak. "... But little by little he slips. He started off with some smoke. Now? Now, he's breaking anyone's bones if they try to stop him." She exhaled. "... Tef. I know too, we can't stop. Not until we find and capture the skeletons. But when we face them, no matter what, don't provoke the taller and don't touch the smaller. If Guido snaps... if he har m s y o u o r P y r o s..." Surprised, Tefra looked at the mermaid, who seemed ready to have a breakdown, her expression filled with panic. She made her stand up and they walked away from the soldier, having had healed him efficiently to find his senses.
"Atalanta? Are you..."
"Don't! Don't even say it. Damnit..." The mermaid growled and looked away. Her fists were shaking. "I can't feel this way now... this is nonsense!"
"Atalanta, you can't control that fear. For you mermaids it's natural. Guido... yes, he possesses the one element that can harm you the most. But-"
"I've lived with you for so long and I still can't stop it! And it's not like only I will be harmed if he does nοt contain his emotions!" Atalanta held Tefra from her shoulders. "Fire is your natural element Tefra! But his fire? It... it can kill even the most fire resistant if rage gets the best of him!"
"Atalanta!" Tefra cut her. "We'll be careful. You informed us of what he's capable to do if as you say he looses control completely. But it will be fine. We stick together even in the toughest of times." She said and nodded. Atalanta looked at her still a little panicked. But soon she sighed and clenched her teeth.
"NGAH! Yes damnit! We must stick together!" The 2 women smiled at each other.
"Babe, come help me please! This human is way too bruised!" Pyros was heard. Atalanta nodded one last time to Tefra and went towards her husbando. The goat watched her leaving and went to heal another soldier.
While healing, her mind went again to Al- eeerm Guido for her. Again their conversation, all the days they interacted, all the times... he became violent. This man knew how to keep calm, but when it came to Eugenia, or Genocide, he was showing some other unexpected colors. Colors which he was showing again and as Atalanta claimed could get worse if further provoked.
"If I can't approach him in a battle, could I even negotiate with this skeleton? Hard to believe Tefra, violent or not, strangely merciful enough to not kill anyone, he's a pirate." She thought and exhaled from her nose. When she was done with the soldier she stood and walked a little further ahead. There were more soldiers further. "Imagine if we're gonna end up finding them by the trails of injured soldiers Guido leaves behind. Heh... Or could I?" The small goat looked behind her sharply.
Everyone was way too busy healing and listening to the soldiers. She looked again ahead and started walking further away. Yes, she was about to break the words she had told Atalanta just a while ago and going by herself for a possibly dangerous solo search.
"If I can slow the skeletons down at least, the others will manage to catch up faster. But it's not just that. There are specific questions I want to ask and answers to find..."
Geno's POV:
-
It was my fault.
I started it.
I spoke too fast and he had every right then to be angry at me. Dissapointed. Look at me with condemn. But I could never expect his next reactions...
First it began with me and Alter finally going to hide and stop running for a while. We went to a dark alley to rest and catch our breaths. Especially Alter. He was in a painful condition. A real bullet had found his left arm, his good one.
All because of an attempt to abruptly pull me out of the aim of a human's weapon and instead of finding me, it found Alter's arm. He quickly slammed him against a building with blue magic knocking him out but then he started lightly jumping while his face and clenched teeth were showing him in immense pain.
He was leaning against the wall holding his injured arm, clenching his teeth and shutting his eyesockets tightly, but wouldn't allow any sound to escape his mouth. He was breathing irregularly and hasn't stopped bleeding. There had to be something I could do. F*ck Geno! You barely fought and wasted your magic, mainly dodging and helping Alter when there were way too many soldiers but he did almost everything!
...
Of course, I thought I could try to heal him. I hadn't heal before. I hadn't find any reason to do so, for anyone. But I had to try and help a friend in need. And so I stood to Alter's left.
"Alter sit down." He looks at me still in pain but confusion. The colors inside his eyesockets are glowing in strange patterns, clearly he's in an unstable condition. He doesn't respond. "I... I wanna try heal ya. Please, sit down, you'll only get more dizzy if you stay up." I tried to convince him.
Eventually Alter slid down and became almost a ball of bones and rags as he showed me his arm. I had immediately looked away when I lifted the sleeve, feeling my nonexistent stomach already twisting. There was a literal bullet hole on his arm, it pierced through it!
"Don't bother... yourself. Thanks for the thought however." He told me slowly and looked to the other direction ready to pull his arm away from me.
"No no! Just let me try." I insisted. Alter then didn't look at me but gave me again his arm.
"Focus your thought and magic on the wound. Picture how the arm was before getting shot." He adviced me.
I looked at the bullet wound and placed my fingers just around it, not touching it. I closed my eyesocket and tried to heal. A few seconds later I actually had started feeling something happening, like I was getting drained by my magic a little. I had think I was healing him! I opened again my eyesocket to look at what I was doing.
Instead I saw a man wearing a hood that covered his whole face. Also covered in dark clothing. The environment was suddenly different. Darker. It felt colder. The man suddenly moved his arm back. He was holding something like a snake. A little too late I realised what it was. The very next moment I saw the man moving forward and a whip attacked my face.
"Geno!" Alter yelled at me. I had fallen backwards and crawled back looking at him shocked. Everything was normal again. What was that?! Where did the man go???
"There was a man wearing black!" I said. Alter looked at me shocked, his eyesockets going empty.
"H œ w m υ c η ð ı ð j æ s ə ə ?" He asked me. I looked at him both scared and confused.
"Just a man... hitting me with a whip! And it was suddenly dark! But when I stopped touching you it all was back to where we are." I revealed. I stood up and approached Alter again. "Well, shall I keep trying to heal you-?"
"Ð œ π ' τ τ o υ c η m ə ə v ə r æ g æ ı π."
What?
"Did I hurt you or something?" I asked.
"No. You barely healed anything actually. But don't. Just ð œ π ' τ. Stay away." Alter told me. Panic, fear, rage all at once in his voice and expression. He stood up quickly. A little too quickly cause he stepped back and slammed himself against the wall dizzy. He covered his face and groaned. At that moment I saw something falling from the pocket of his cloak. A paper. I picked it up and looked at it.
I wish I hadn't looked at it.
"Altər?" I asked and showed him the poster. I waited for Alter to look at it. Immediately his eyesockets widened up and started shaking as he frantically searched his pockets, confirming that the poster had slipped off.
"G ə π œ..." He said slowly. I clenched the paper in my hand. I didn't know what I was feeling in the moment but definitely not anything good. Turns out there's WAY more things I didn't know about Alter. I had think then. As if Alter wasn't already hiding enough, now this?!
"... It wasn't something that was about us. Rather someone else."
"... Some criminal. I just said I have no clue 'bout 'em..."
He had hid things again from me. But this time he had a very good reason to hide 'em! Is it possible I was so wrong about him? I just glared at him.
"Why does this poster say you're a murderer?"

Tefra was staring down on the ground thoughtful. The first tracks she followed were of the injured soldiers. Taking always similar answers of who beat them up. She didn't even need to ask anyways. However from some point after, the soldiers started becoming less and less. Less witnesses who could tell her where the skeletons had taken off to.
Tefra was about to start getting discouraged from her search. She was already further ahead of the group she was in. But soon she would be lucky. As she had finished healing a soldier, the moment she was about to stand up and walk away, the other held her from her wrist momentarily.
"Lady Infernal..." He said slowly and Tefra just looked at him, waiting for what he wanted to say. "... Before getting knocked out, I actually shot the tall one. I don't think him and his partner went too far away."
This was providential.
"Where did you shoot him?" Tefra asked with new hopes to keep searching.
"I actually wanted to aim at the smaller skeleton. But the other pulled him away and I think I shot his arm."
"Alright." The small goat nodded and started walking around. "If injured, then he must have left some blood trail behind. Mixed with all this human blood will be a little tricky to spot it, unless I..." Tefra closed her eyes, exhaled and when she opened them again they were dark with 2 orange rings inside of them. Suddenly her vision was different. She wasn't seeing things as they were. She was seeing everything blurry. Except from the humans' souls, she could see them clearly. Not too long after, she saw some small stains on the ground glowing clearly and intensively blue. She approached them and smiled triumphantly. "That's definitely Guido's magic." She could remember the sensation and aura of his magic well. Especially that day when he saved her from getting hit by the glass. When he started bleeding... Tefra rubbed the back of her head and looked away. But soon a new thought got her attention. The pupils on a monster skeleton are usually white. But there are cases where because of high levels of magic, depending on the type and color, the pupils can not be white. "If Guido's eyesockets are green, which consequently drives to a high level of green-colored magic, why am I seeing the stains blue-? Magic vial!" She smacked her head in the realization and quickly looked again ahead. The stains were continuing further. She looked behind her and after she informed the soldiers that more help would soon come for them too, she followed the bloodstains.
~
Alter looked away silent. Geno approached closer.
"There's nothing I need to say."
"Nothing to say?!" Geno yelled. "What the Hell Alter?!"
"Keep quiet Geno."
"No- why-?!" The smaller sighed loudly. "Amongst so many other things you haven't tell me about yourself, this! This had a very good reason to stay hidden, didn't it? What on earth!"
"This is a lie Geno." Alter said and placed his hands on his face.
"So you mean this is not you on the poster!" Geno scoffed. "Truly the cassock doesn't make the priest after all. The Government of Portugal has your face and is looking for ya, for 10.000 gold!"
"Obviously cause I'm a pirate." Alter said.
"No! There is no way they give so much gold for a pirate, even for someone like you, considering in who's crew you're in. Besides, it doesn't even mention you as a pirate here! It calls you-!"
"I didn't do anything..." Alter said quietly.
"Æłtər, ənøugh!" Geno growled. "This time I'm really gonna abuse your role here! As your prince, I demand an explanation of why in this poster they call you a murd-!"
"¡NŒ §Œ¥ UN ƧƏ§!NŒ!"
Alter turned and punched the wall, piercing through it. Geno stepped back surprised. The priest turned to face the smaller. His teeth clenched, the colors inside his eyesockets even more intensive and his fists seemed capable at the moment to obliterate stones if given the chance. His left one bleeding from punching the wall but didn't care.
"Uh oh..."
"Yøu wαnτ τhə τruτh prıncə? V ə r γ w ə ł ł." Alter started approaching with slow steps. For each, Geno was taking a step back. The 2 skeletons stood in silence for a minute that felt like a decade. A lot of things made sense to Geno with all these revealations. He understood why Alter avoided mentioning Nord a lot and if he did he sounded awkward.
It might was not obvious, but he understood why humans around him were looking like they wanted to slit their necks. With Alter being represented as a huge threat once, he had stigmatized the skeleton race. Or maybe, Raymond stigmatized it, using him, framing him.
He had seen how the human soldiers were giving nasty looks to the skeleton monster guards, like the 2 pairs of twins (swapfell and fellswap skele bros). Raymond himself was giving nasty looks to Decans! Geno exhaled. After putting a few pieces together, he looked at Alter.
He had messed up. He overreacted too fast and caused his friend to reveal all these, which must have been painful to recall AND out loud. He hoped an apology would help them both, if not immediately fix everything, at least calm them down. He got enough courage to approach his tall friend. He tried to hold his hand.
"I'm so sorry, I... I wouldn't even dare to imagine the level of pain and suffering you went through Alter-."
The priest snapped his head to look at Geno and held his wrist tightly. Geno tried to step back but Alter held him stably in one place.
"Đøn't cæłł mə wıth thæt næmə ƏVƏR ægæın." He said calmly but the rage was pulsating in his voice. He smiled wide and creepily. "Đøn't yøu rəməmbər? Yøu usəđ yøur æuthørıty øvər mə. "Al..." Geno tried to talk. But then voices coming towards them, horse cantering and armor clattering were heard. Alter looked behind him and walked closer to the corner of their hiding spot. Geno peeked behind the taller. The skeletons saw 2 soldiers riding horses. Their head was lowered to the ground, they were following something.
"The stains stop here."
"The skeletons shouldn't be too far away."
"Maybe they're around here."
"Dø yøu səə thə bıggər hørsə wıth fəæthərəđ łəgs?" Alter asked suddenly.
"Yes?" Geno asked, not immediately understanding what the taller had in mind.
"Wə gøttæ tæƙə ıt. Wə'łł gət øut øf tøwn fæstər ænđ łəss əfførtłəssły."
"How are we supposed to do that?! The soldiers are armed, you're injured and-!" Alter chuckled deeply.
"You unđərəstımætə mə prıncəy. Wæıt hərə. I'łł ηaπđłə tηə sıτυæτιøπ." He said and walked away from the alley towards the soldiers.
"Alter wait!" Geno tried to stop him. The priest ignored. Geno kept looking from the corner and watched in agony. "No, this is crazy. He's injured and these soldiers are armed, plus on horses!" He thought. He watched however as Alter streched his hands ahead, the palms facing the ground on the level of his waist. He could see how bended and hardened the fingers were.
"The tall skeleton!" The one soldier yelled.
To Geno's surprise he recognised the blond soldier they encountered with his partner a little before Raymond appeared, by his screeching annoying voice. He immediately hit his horse's croup with a small rawhide he was holding and ran towards Alter with his spear raised, ready to hit the skeleton.
Alter stopped walking, bended his knees and started raising his hands slowly, little by little, as if he was pulling something really heavy from the earth hanging from his fingers on strings. The very next moment Geno started feeling the earth slightly shaking. He supported himself on the wall and kept watching in shock what was going on.
"But what is he doing?!"
When the blond soldier was only a few meters away, Alter suddenly let his arms fall abruptly. The moment that happened, a loud short earthquake made the ground exactly around the whole area but not near any houses, jump. Yes, literally jump.
The earth cracked, stones popped out and dust scattered all around. The horse of the blond soldier stood on its hind legs neighing surprised and terrified, making him fall. The other, the brunet soldier tried to turn around, clearly not wanting to deal with this sh*t.
But unlucky him, he was riding the horse Alter said him and Geno needed. The priest turned his attention to him and stomped the ground so loudly it echoed all around. At the same time, blue aura traveled all around the area.
It pushed the larger horse which stood on its front legs(!) and threw the rider on the ground too. Before any of the 2 soldiers could react, Alter grabbed them both from their heads and hit them together. The humans fell on the ground uncoscious. Geno stared in surprise.
"Yøu cæn cømə øut nøw prıncəy." Alter called. Hesitantly but excited Geno walked closer to his guardian.
"That was awesome! What kind of magic was that?!" He asked. Alter chuckled, though it sounded rather ironic, not light and truly cheerful.
"Thæt prıncə, thæt wæs błuə mægıc."
"WhaAA?!"
"Thıs ıs høw pøwərfuł błuə mægıc cæn bə whən yøu træın wıth ıt før łøng ænđ pætıəntły. Æs skəłətons, wə ærə mørə cłøsə tø əærth thæn æny øthər bæsıc əłəmənt øf næturə prıncə. "Got it." Geno nodded. Even after their arguement, he was still taking lessons from Alter. He looked at the horses, which had paralyzed in fear. "Now what?"
"Nøw? Nøw wə tæmə thə bıg hørsə. This, is a gorgeous English Great horsə! Biggest breed of all, male. It is more often used to pull heavy things though. How peculiar however, being a riding horsə. Seems athletic enough. What is it even doing here on this land!" Suddenly Alter was talking excited and cheerfully, his voice having no cracks or strange accent on the words as he analyzed the horse.
"Why ain't we taking the other? It seems faster." Geno tried to reason, interrputing Alter's rumbling. Who looked at him as if he had said a joke so bad even none of the 2 skeletons could laugh at.
"Prıncəy, ın cæsə yøu đøn't reałise, I'm æn ałmøst 7 føøt tæłł skəłətøn. "Alright I guess. Well, since we gotta deal with an animal, lemme just..." Geno walked slowly ahead and approached the large English horse, which was staring all this time at the priest with a traumatised expression. "Hey, um. Big horse! We need you calm and we need your help. If you could just-"
"So you're a siren? Tell your friend to stay away from me! I'm not helping anyone with anything!" The horse neighed agressively.
"Uuuh, the horse doesn't like you after what you did with the ground." Geno turned to Alter, who chuckled and searched his pockets.
"Đøəsn't łike mə? Wə'łł səə 'bøut thæt. Æłłøw mə." The priest walked slowly towards the large horse with his hands holding something out of sight.
"Oh no. OH NO. You DON'T!" The horse neighed louder. It wasn't running away however. Maybe it feared that if it turned its back, it would get harmed. Instead it was stepping back. Alter raised his closed fists towards the horse, still walking, fastening just a tiny bit his pace.
"Sssh. It's ok my boy. I don't harm animals, only humans who attack at anyone without second thought. Allow me to present you something." Alter said as if he had understood what the animal had said. Instead the horse stepped back again. The taller hummed and opened his palms.
The moment he did that, the horse looked at what the priest was holding. Suddenly he seemed interested? He had stopped stepping back and allowed Alter to come closer, who hid his one hand behind his back, still presenting the other. The horse sniffed his hand, never letting his eyes off the skeleton.
"Oh dear, it's been years since I've seen or even smelled this!" The animal opened its mouth and ate what Alter was holding. The priest smiled satisfied.
"Prıncə, cømə hərə ıf yøu płəæsə." He called Geno. "Gımmə yøur hænđ." Reluctantly the smaller gave his hand to the priest, who put a small cube shaped object on his palm.
"Is this sugar??? Where didja find it?" He asked.
"Frøm Ærchıə. Gø gıvə ıt tø thə hørsə ænđ I hævə mørə snæcks ıf hə wænts." Alter said. Geno walked towards the horse and lifted his hand towards his muzzle. The horse sniffed the palm and slowly ate the small sugar cube.
"Thanks I guess." He said. Geno was surprised with himself. It was his first ever time being this close to a horse and didn't hesitate a second, he didn't fear his size. And when he gently stroked the horse's cheek, he felt an inexplainable excitement filling him. He turned to look at Alter.
"I think he feels better now-"
Once again Alter wasn't behind him.
"Guido?"
"GET AWAY FROM ME!" The horse neighed loudly. Geno faced the animal and saw Alter near his right croup with his hand close to it. Green aura was coming out.
"What are you doing?! Stop healing, you're injured!"
"Æs yøu cømmænđ prıncə. ßut sø thıs bøy ıs ınjurəđ." Alter replied without even looking at Geno. He stepped back. "Hıs mæstər hæs hıt hım mæny tıməs øn thıs spøt. Iτ øpənəđ ª wøunđ." He said calmly. The horse seemed to understand that his croup was feeling better now. He looked behind him, then at Alter. That was repeated 2 more times, as if he couldn't believe what just happened. Alter attempted to walk towards the horse and stood in front of him. This time he was holding a carrot. "Here my friend. Don't worry, your master will not be available now to harm you-." He stopped talking. The horse lowered his head and bumped Alter's chest gently.
"How long has it been since someone has been nice to me?" He neighed quietly.
There Alter suddenly seemed to break his tough expression as it was suddenly filled with genuine emotion, unlike what he had shown with Geno minutes ago. Also, after so long his pupils inside his eyesockets had turned white, their natural color. He placed his hands on the horse's head and neck, then pressed his cheek on top of the animal's head.
The 2 stayed in this position for quite some time. And to Geno's surprise, when Alter seemed to be talking, a strange whispery language, the horse would neigh back to him. And while the siren was understanding the horse, he couldn't understand Alter.
"Al, what language are you speaking?! Horse?!" The taller didn't say anything for a while.
"... Yυp."
"How?"
"Yøu rəæłły thøught ønły sırəns ænđ mərmæıđs cæn cømmunıcætə wıth ænımæłs? Wəłł, thərə ærə ª fəw ænımæł łænguægəs whıch ª mørtæł cæn cønquər tøø ıf thəy cønnəct wıth æn ænımæł før łøng ənøugh. I mænægəđ tø łəærn spəækıng hørsə."
"When did you learn?" Geno asked interested, though he didn't have much hope that Alter would tell him anything after their arguement. However the priest sighed. He started fixing the stirrups, the saddle and whatever else was on the horse.
"... Dønkeys usəd tø bə α cømmon məan øf trænsportatıon før łong dıstances øn thə mønæstəriəs I wæs. Generałły thəy arə usəful thæt wæy. He chuckled. "Oncə I wøke up completeły, I sæw clearły α tałł hørse checkıng mə øut, sæme exæct brəəd łike thə onə wə hæve herə nøw." Alter faced again the horse for a while before continuing fixing the stirrups. "Yes, I will help you go wherever you want. But now give me the carrot." He said and the skeletons chuckled. Once the horse was fed, Alter stepped back and smiled satisfied with how he had fixed the stuff on the horse.
"Is he ready?" Geno asked.
"Yuþ. Rəæđy tø rıđə ænđ łəævə-."
"Gəτ. Æwæγ. £røm τηə ηørsə."
The 2 skeletons turned to the direction of a special familiar female voice. Geno got even more pale. But Alter smiled chilly as his eyesockets were filled in bluish and pale colors again.
"Oh dear." The horse neighed with intensive English accent and hid behind Alter.
"Buønasəra Sıgnørına Infərnał! As ıt səəms yøu fınałły caught up wıth us." He said and this time he was talking again in his fake voice he had for his disguise. Because indeed, Tefra was standing a few meters away.
"Guido Siracussa and Genocide-."
"Just Geno please." Geno interrupted, accidentally using his fake girly voice from nervousness and a slowly growing fear building inside him.
"... You are both under arrest for the accusation of piracy and the charge of espionage. Surrender before things get πasτγ." Tefra continued and her eyes went black empty. Geno gulped.
"How didja find us?" He asked.
"Guido left behind traces of blood. Green ain't your color after all, huh?" The goat said calmly looking at Alter, who facepalmed but chuckled quietly. He took a step forward.
"Øbsərvant as ałways I səə. ßυτ łıstən, Sıgnørına. Æs much as I wøułđn't mınđ at ałł gəttıng arrəstəđ by yøu, I havə tø ałsø thınk øf thə łıttłə ønə I must prøtəct. Maybə I wøułđ føłłøw..." He placed a hand in a protective matter in front of Geno as he got serious. "... ßυτ πœτ ηιm. I wøn't æłłøw æπγ¤πə tø əvən gət nəær hım wıthøut cønsəquəncəs τηιs τιmə. I mækə π° əxcəptıøns."
"First I observed, then I've been informed further of your rather defensive nature towards Geno. But it is not allowed to make distinctions on who to arrest and who to let go." Tefra sighed. "And here, we all monsters opened our souls to you and welcomed you. For a while, I really trusted you... Congratulations, you are a master at lying, ærəπ'τ γœυ?"
"Mayɓə my whøłə đəməanør ıs α łıə, ɓut nøt ałł I'və tøłđ yøu arə łıəs Sıgnørına. I høpəđ yøu wøułđ nəvər łəarn øf whø I rəałły was, as that wøułđ changə yøur juđgəmənt tøwarđs mə. ßυτ nøw-."
"Stop it. Just stœp ıt. Nœ mœrə tæłkıng. §υrrəπđər." Tefra insisted. Alter chuckled.
"I səə høw ıt ıs. If I cømə nøw ıt's øur łøss. If I kəəp bəıng đıffıcułt, søønər ør łatər ɓackup wıłł cømə anđ ıt'łł ɓə agaın øur łøss. Bəsıđəs yøu wøułđn't łət us gø." He started clapping slowly. "Yøu'rə attəmptıng tø đəłay us. Wəłł đønə yøung Sıgnørına. Bra. vıssımø. Tıɓıa hønəst I am quıtə fłattərəđ yøu tøøk such mattər ın yøur øwn hanđs. "Is this dude really trying to flirt with me???" Tefra thought confused.
"Alter, what the heck?" Geno thought.
"I wøułđn't fıght mə ıf I wərə yøu, Infərnæł. Yøu arə đraınəđ frøm magıc ałmøst. Łəmmə guəss, yøu usəđ yøur magıc tø həał α ɓunch øf ungratəfuł søłđıərs whø đø πøτηιπg əxcəpt whınıng whən thəy fınđ thə słıghtəst øf đıffıcułtıəs."
"Tired or not, I have a job to do. I will still have to beat you. You might be actually controlling fire like me, but you aren't born with it. I handle it better. I know it better." Alter closed his eyeockets and exhaled from his nose, momentarily thoughtful.
But slowly a smile crept on his face and looked at Tefra as she walked closer. He crossed his arms. The goat woman opened her hand and fire emerged from it. A breeze blowed her fire towards the priest, feeling the heat gently stroking him.
"I ɓəłıəvə I'łł managə. Vəry wəłł." He looked at Geno. "Prıncə, stəp æsıđə, yøu ænđ thə hørsə. Prəfəræbly æs fær æwæy æs pøssıɓłə." He turned again to face Tefra. "If ıt's α fıght Sıgnørına Infernal wants..."
"... thən α fıgητ shə wıłł gət."
