Fight on the street and more revelations
Where the 2 skeletons talk again with the Infernal siblings, get again in trouble with humans and Geno gets leaded to a quite surprising revelation about who really Alter's friend and helper of the mission is.
No one's POV:
-
"Damn, they all go crazy see fights." Geno thought observing the huge mob of monsters around them. But it was annoying getting pushed around by some of them that were passing really close. "Guido can you pick me up?" He asked loud enough for Alter to hear him. Without saying anything the taller temporarily stopped and picked up Geno so he was on his shoulders. Then he continued walking carefully to make sure the smoller wouldn't fall.
The first thing Geno saw once he was higher than everyone was a stray fireball flying in the sky far away. He shivered seeing it. He observed around and saw some monsters literally jumping and climbing the houses and buildings just to be able watch the fight without getting squeezed by the mob.
"Ain't they making it more difficult for the guards to fight with their appearance though?" He wondered silently. Oh well, this was a different monster society, he wasn't sure whether that was normal or not. Finally, Geno's eyesocket caught Tefra's movement the moment she was jumping back to avoid the knife a human was holding.
Soon he saw Pyros too, fighting a tall buffy human who was trying to punch him with summoned orange gloves. However the small goat's flexibility was incredible, he wasn't even teleporting and facing his opponent with a confident smile. The human was limping just a tiny bit from his leg but more than that he didn't seem to be injured anywhere else. Pyros wasn't really making any attempt to harm him badly.
Unlike his sister.
Tefra's situation seemed a little more difficult. She was fighting 2 humans at once who were trying to attack her with knives. The one of them had a blue whip and swinging it at times towards her. Despite outnumbered the only injure she had was a scratch on her right cheek while her opponents were bleeding, roasted and bruised.
She seemed irritated and as if she was really sick and tired fighting them and wanted to finish at last. The way her eyes were glowing an intensive magenta, the speed on her movements, she didn't seem to find the fight difficult, yet she seemed to hold back. To not kill them?
"Hold on tight, you got this..." Geno heard Alter saying quietly.
"Are you saying this only for her or both siblings?" He asked. Alter looked up to him.
"Both."
"Are you sure about that?" The smaller asked ready to tease again.
"Sister, it's time for a cool move! This fight is about to take too long!" Pyros suddenly said looking at Tefra but still avoiding his opponent.
Tefra looked at her brother only for a moment and nodded. They approached so they could drag their opponents closer, in the middle of the battleground. When the 3 humans were really close to each other the goats suddenly jumped high. A big beam was summoned and they stood on it.
"EVERYBODY BACK OFF!" Pyros suddenly yelled as him and Tefra were waving their one hand. Immediately Geno saw all monsters from the mob him and Alter were in backing off and so Alter did the same. Suddenly a round wall of fire surrounded the 3 humans and Geno could barely see them.
"Let's dance, s h a l l w e?" Tefra said then snapping her fingers with Pyros. Suddenly the humans' souls flew out of their chests and turned... orange. Not just that. The humans started flying towards the fire walls. They started getting panicked and trying to stay away from the fire before they could touch it.
On their attempt they were bumping on each other. And then Alter had to try harder keep Geno on his shoulders, who wouldn't stop laughing like many other monsters around, seeing the spectacle. At the same time the smaller was admiring. Orange magic? He had heard about it but never actually saw anyone using that! He asked Alter if he knew about it.
"Orange magic has 2 sides and natures unlike blue. Blue magic controls the soul's gravity and the summoner can move it wherever they want, to all directions if desired. If a weapon is made of blue magic, staying motionless will help you avoid the attack unharmed. You don't get damaged if you move while your soul is blue. Orange magic makes the one who's soul turned orange to move nonstopping and be unable to keep themselves motionless. The user of the magic has almost zero control of the soul they turned orange and can only repeal it. If orange magic is on a weapon and you move through the attack, it will not damage you. It's second nature and perhaps more dangerous and tricky is that if the soul that turned orange doesn't move gets damage."
"So cool! But does that mean then that the humans could pass through the fire since it's orange?" Geno asked. Suddenly a human yelled in pain holding his hand that was burned and dropped his knife, seemed like he didn't prevent move away from the fire. "... Uuuh, nevermind."
"That is fire magic, not orange son." Alter said chuckling. He suddenly then held his chest and took 2 deep heavy breaths. He seemed to pant for a while. Geno looked down to him worried.
"Are you ok? Should I get off you?" He asked.
"Nothing to worry about, I'm good. Stay where you are." The taller replied with certainty. Geno turned again to watch but at exactly that moment the fire wall started shrinking and approaching threateningly the humans who were trying to get stuck to each other.
"Surrender now, or our cool attack will affect you!" Pyros said.
"Basically drop your knives before you taste the heat." Tefra spoke too. The humans looked up frustrated and still scared but obeyed. "I better see these knives far away from you." The female goat continued and her eyes glowed brighter in a threatening way. Gulping the humans kicked away the knives and raised hands in the air.
"I-It's just a prank! Ha ha..." One of the humans tried to say sweating bullets both from the heat of fire and nervousness. The 2 goats jumped down once the blaster was near the ground. The fire disappeared. Out of nowhere suddenly 2 more monster guards appeared. It was Mal and Rus!
"Oh yeah? Threatening a few monsters' lifes is considered a prank now?" Tefra asked. The 2 humans got extremely pale and shut their mouths as the skeleton guards were cuffing them. The taller though was just staring at her silent and glaring.
"EXCELLENT JOB BOTH OF YOU TO CAPTURE THE HUMANS!" Mal congratulated. Pyros started bubbling about their awesomeness while Tefra was listening silent. Suddenly before Rus could cuff the taller human, he pushed away the skeleton and went for an obvious attack towards Tefra.
"WATCH OUT!" Geno screamed in his normal voice, luckily no one seemed to pay attention to details. Tefra turned and grabbed the human's fist only inches away from her face. Surprisingly she didn't seem to put effort hold the human motionless, him instead seemed to have a hard time to move.
"You humans..." She said calmly. The man started screaming in pain and trying to get away from her. But the small goat was holding him in one place. The creepiest was that blood started coming out of the man's fist and staining the ground. A sound like bones cracking filled the air.
"She's crushing his hand." Geno thought terrified.
"... a r e r e a l l y p i s s i n g m e O F F." Tefra completed. Pyros stood near her.
"Enough Tefra!" He said concerned and serious. A few seconds later the small female let go of the human who started rolling to the ground holding his bleeding fist while Rus was cuffing him too. She glared at the other 2 humans who were literally hugging each other.
"A n y o n e e l s e?" She asked and they shook head left and right fast.
10 minutes later...
The humans were taken away and the monsters applaused and admired the siblings for their battle. Pyros was accepting the praise excited while Tefra seemed indifferent and cold.
"C'mon, let's approach closer. She might give ya an autograph~" Geno said. Alter facepalmed and sighed.
"Not yet."
"Why not? Are you shy~?"
"Definitely not how you act when Captain addresses to ya for any reason or he's close." Alter attacked. Geno growled and looked away.
"Why does his tease has so much effect on me everytime he mentions that bastard?!" He thought.
"Y'know, I'm into ascetic and church life. I have experiences both as monk and priest. If ya ever need, I can help you with stuff like marry you with-"
"Don't even think about completing that sentence!" Geno skirled trying to get off Alter and down himself, while the other was fighting to stop laughing.
"Why not? I think ya complete each other. I observed that since the curse Captain has never been really happy or cheerful until you came along."
"Nonsense, absolute nonsense!"
"Remember son. The mind is lying but the soul doesn't deny!"
"Ajsjejfvkmsamxn!!!" Geno yelled covering his scarf. Alter pat him gently.
"Daaaw. Is someone angy? Is someone confused and annoyed because I'm playing the game he started? There there." He kept going in a 'baby voice'. Geno pouted and looked away.
"Stop saying such nonsense, I-I don't understand you!" He stuttered. Alter didn't reply.
Geno looked again at the goat siblings. Now they were staring at an old looking building. On the 2nd floor there wasn't even wall, it was destroyed and anyone could see 3 monsters. They seemed to be pleading for help. Tefra suddenly teleported and disappeared.
At the very last moment Geno realised Alter was gone from his side and saw him walking towards Pyros. He hurried to follow, thinking that for a skeleton that can't teleport he had a hard time understanding when Alter was moving. Pyros finally saw them and waved his hand. Alter responded the same way.
"Buongiorno Pyros! I watched the fight! It was impressive." He said. Pyros stood again proudly.
"Good morning Guido! Good morning Eugenia! We were trained to be impressive and awesome of course!"
"Is it normal for the monsters around here watch fights though? Aren't they in danger?" Geno asked.
"It has a tiny dose of danger but it's actually helpful! You see..." Pyros leaned closer and started whispering. "... the appearance of the monster citizens is blocking the streets and so the humans can't escape easily! It's the only way in disguise for the other monsters to interfere!"
"Oooh, interesting!" Alter said. Then he looked up. "What is your sister doing?"
"As it seems 3 monsters climbed up there to watch the fight but now are stuck and can't get down! Tef is helping them!" Pyros replied and his expression suddenly turned a little more sad.
"Is she always that hardworking?" Geno asked. The male goat's attention turned to the small skeleton.
"No. She used to be more easygoing and slacking off on her duties. I had to ran behind her and scold her to finish her work, only for me to do it for her in the end. But then..." He suddenly paused and looked down.
"Let me guess. The unspoken thing that happened 4 years ago, right? She changed?" Geno asked. Even if he had the curiosity to know, despite he had told himself it wasn't his business to know what exactly happened then, he didn't ask about it. Pyros nodded and sighed.
"... Yes. After that I was surprised to see her working more intensively, it almost made me think that she wasn't my sister! Now I ran behind her to tell her not to overwork herself! But she doesn't listen. And when it comes fighting the humans... this is where I can't stop her..."
"Woah..." Geno did. He looked up to see Tefra the moment she was holding one of the monsters that were stuck by the hand and teleporting together down, a little further from her brother and Geno. The monster thanked her and walked away. Tefra then turned and approached.
"Good morning Tefra." Geno said.
"Hey." Tefra replied. "What's up?" And there the small skeleton started bubbling about how amazing the fight was and congratulating the 2 siblings for the win.
"Everything was awesome! But I got surprised and a little scared when that human started screaming. You literally broke his hand!" He said then. Tefra looked away rolling her eyes.
"Tch. He'll live."
"She doesn't give a damn... What on earth really happened to you?" Geno thought a little sad.
"Say, where's Guido? Isn't he with you?" She asked then. Geno looked at her surprised.
"Guido?" He said turning to look behind him. "But he's-..." No one was there. "... behind me?" He stopped talking and started scanning the area. "How is he so silent all the time?!" He thought. But soon he sighed relieved. Alter was a few steps away, talking with another monster that was listening to him impressed.
"Ah, he's there. Seems like someone's questioning him!" Geno said. "Alter I swear to God, if you walk away like that again I'll-!"
"Well, that's fine. I'll go check if there are any other monsters on that building." Tefra said.
"Sis, the fight have drained you. I don't think you should-. Aaand she's not listening." Pyros said and sighed as Tefra had walked away and soon disappeared. At exactly that moment the monster Alter was talking with walked away. The tall skeleton then looked up to the building. And he approached it. "Sir Guido! It's better you don't approach! The building is ruins and pieces might collapse!" Pyros warned.
"No need to worry Pyros! I won't approach that close." Alter said. And he turned to look again up. Geno looked up too and saw Tefra with her back turned scanning the 2nd floor. She was walking backwards and approaching closer and closer to the end since there was no wall. But she stopped inches away.
Geno felt breathing again. But suddenly, to his terror he saw Tefra pressing her hand on her head, shaking it left and right and taking another step back, almost stepping to nowhere! A plank broke and fell down and all monsters started getting really worried. Some of them screeched with the sudden plank breaking.
"TEFRA!" Pyros yelled as he saw her loosing her balance for a moment. But the small female stood normally and turned to look at Pyros.
"Don't worry bro. I'm fi- IIIINE!" The floor beneath Tefra broke and this time she fell down too.
"SISTER!" Pyros yelled even more terrified ready to run. But Alter, who was closer ran first, stopped abruptly, opened his arms while looking up and caught her bridal style. Pyros looked at him surprised but then a sigh of relief escaped him and placed his hand on his chest.
"H-Huh?" Tefra did opening eyes and looking at Guido. They stared at each other surprised for a few seconds before Alter make a gasp of awe.
"Buongiorno principessa! I didn't know Heavens were dropping angels!" He said cheerfully looking at her. Geno expected that this would fluster the little guard even a little, but instead she laughed together with Alter, who put her down carefully.
"Thank you." She said looking away.
"You welcome!" He replied.
"Guido, I have no words to thank you!" Pyros said looking at him and Tefra surprised once he was closer with Geno.
"No need. I'm just glad I prevented a possibly serious injure." Alter said.
"THAT'S HIM GUARDS! ARREST HIM, NOT ONLY HE THREATENED ME, HE'S ALSO WEARING FAKE MAGIC BLOCKER!" A man's voice was heard suddenly. The 4 companionships turned and saw a human with 2 soldiers approaching with fast steps. Geno remembered him, it was the man Alter threatened after trying to hit 'his daughter'.
"Eugenia, I want you to step away a little." Alter whispered. Geno looked up to him worried.
"But-!"
"Rule number 2 Eugenia, rule number 2! You agreed." Alter cut him. Geno obeyed and stepped back gulping. They were so f*cked, that human probably understood Alter was wearing fake magic blocker and once the soldiers were checking...
"How is Alter gonna handle this?!" The small skeleton thought. The siblings had stepped aside looking at Alter surprised as the soldiers had keep him motionless. He couldn't escape. The accuser was smiling evily, he was about to get back at Alter for getting threatened.
He thought.
Immediately the one soldier grabbed Alter's wrist and started palpating the magic blocker. Geno held his breath. But soon the human's grim serious expression turned confused and troubled.
"What's going on?" His partner asked him.
"His magic blocker is normal." He said. Geno's eyesocket widened up.
"Normal?! How?!" He thought confused. He looked at Alter. "What did you do Al?"
"Normal!" The accuser said and held Alter's wrist violently, shaking him and palpating too. He was angry. "But I felt it, it was fake!"
"Hands off him Sir!" Pyros interfered separating the human from Alter.
"He-... He removed the fake blocker and just wore a real one!" The human didn't give up, he kept accusing Alter. But it would make sense, Geno thought. Alter might did indeed replace his fake magic blocker with a real one when no one was watching, not even him. He suddenly remembered. When they were watching the fight.
That one moment when Alter suddenly started breathing heavily and asked him if he was ok. From the time he threatened the human until now, he wasn't wearing the blocker for too long and yet... he was already getting drained by it. Geno felt again horrible. If only he wasn't opening his big mouth!
Then Alter wouldn't have to step up, defend him and get targeted to be accused, he wouldn't have to wear magic blocker for precaution. He was getting in trouble because of him!
"Do you have any proof that I indeed had any fake magic blocker?" Alter asked calmly. The accuser clenched his fists.
"Search his stuff guards! I know that he had fake magic blocker! AND HE THREATENED TO MURDER ME! Who knows whay else he's hiding!!!" He insisted. The soldiers looked at Alter grimly.
"Sir, hand over your bag. We have to do a check for precautions." The one of them said.
"Signore, I know my innocence. And despite you just want to be sure, I do not desire to be searched. I'm friends with Bernard Aristo, he invited me to visit here and... he wouldn't be happy if he knew I'm treated like that." Alter said. Geno felt that he was playing a trump card. He was using names and high authorities! It seemed to work for a moment. The guards looked to each other hesitant.
"Bullsh*t! See?! He's trying to hide! Just search him!" The accuser yelled, he wanted so badly to get Alter in trouble. "He's using Aristo's name to get away from crimes! There's no way that nobody is friends with-!"
"He actually is..." Tefra stepped up, standing in front of the humans and staring at the accuser strictly. "... We met this man yesterday and he has enough proof that shows he has connections with Bernard. If you mess with a friend of Bernard's you're messing with me." She said stably.
"Oooh sh*t, she's defending us!" Geno thought seeing with pleasure the accuser's annoyed expression.
"What's the proof?" The one soldier asked raising eyebrow. Tefra turned to look at Alter.
"If you don't mind, do you have the letter?" She asked. Alter willingly opened his bag, searched and gave Tefra the letter. She held it in her hands and approached the soldiers. They started reading above her shoulder, probably they could read italian. A minute later they stood normally and looked at the accuser with an unreadable expression.
"What? He's lying, isn't he?!" He asked. The soldiers shook head left and right.
"The letter has Lord Bernard's signature. He indeed knows the skeleton and he's not just a guest here, he's also defended by him." The one said. They turned to Alter's direction and bowed down lightly.
"We apologise for the trouble Signoro Siracusa. You're clean. We weren't informed Aristo called you here. We will not waste your time again like that."
"WHAT?!" The accuser yelled. "But he had a fake blocker, I saw it and he threatened me, I-!" Suddenly Tefra yanked him from his collar and made him lower so they were on the same level.
"G e t ł ø § t n ø ₩."
The human whimpered and ran away once Tefra let him go. The soldiers walked away casually but sweating bullets from Tefra's snap. When they were gone, many monsters around approached and looked up to Alter in awe.
"You know Bernard Aristo?!"
"You have connections with Bernard?!"
"You're friends with one of the 3 Aces?!"
Geno's POV:
-
That last comment gets my attention.
Excuse me...
WHAT?!
"... They were a unity of 3 families it was said. Ambassadors for human and monster kind of Portugal in order to unite them. But one of the most certain things I know is that for Echo now, who told me a few things when I met her, they are secretly her commanders behind her plans... That's all I know..."
That's all I know my ass! He's friends with someone who's really high authority around here as it shows and is helping us from distance?! Alter, you know more than what you say and I don't like that! How and when he met with that Bernard? That's it, he will not escape from me until he answers my questions!
Alter is trying to hold back the excited mob of monsters. I prevent to see Tefra and Pyros exchange a quick look. And then, after searching quickly around, Pyros locates me, approaches and signs me to hold his hand. I hesitate a little but despite not understanding what he wants I hold it. He guides me near Tefra and Alter.
"Alright everyone alright! Step aside, let Signoro Guido and Eugenia breath!" He jokes as him and his sister try to make way through the monsters. Tefra is holding Alter's hand and I can't help but smile. Despite I really wanna bombardise Alter questions!
About 10 minutes later...
Guess news are running faster than the wind. Wherever we were passing every monster was looking at Alter as if he was resurrected Jesus. At least they weren't getting in our way. Welp, Alter is famous now, just because he's friend of Bernard Aristo. But I'm not sure if that is good. Too much attention might make things more difficult. I just hope Alter has everything under control at least. Finally the siblings stopped dragging us.
"We haven't finish our patrol yet. We must go to the humans' side too. Will you be fine on your own?" Tefra asked.
"I believe we'll be fine Signorina. Grazie for helping solve quickly the problem with the humans." Alter said.
"Humans are such liars! Why do they lie all the time?! For money?" I ask 'frustrated'.
"Most likely." "Most likely."
Alter said. Tefra said.
They both look to each other and laugh realising they said the same thing.
"They are so sweet together." Geno murmured.
"Indeed they're getting along very well as friends!" Pyros next to me says. Close enough. When the siblings are finally gone I turn to look at Alter. Now it's the time he won't escape from me! He signs me to walk next to him. For a few minutes we say nothing. Until he leads the way on a distant alley. We stop, he looks down at me, crosses his arms and leans against a wall. He sighs smiling.
"Alright. Shoot me with your questions before ya burst from impatience." He says. Say no more! I yank him from his collar and start shaking him.
"Bernard Aristo! From the 3 Aces! You're friends with authorities of Portugal this high as his to help us! How?! When?! If you know him and you know Echo who knows the 3 too and you met with her a few years ago, you know them too more personally?! Why didja lie?!?!?! Does Bernard know your current situation, that you're pirate?!" I ask nonstopping, shout-whispering. Barely understanding in what order I'm doing the questions.
Alter though doesn't take it seriously! He was trying to stop laughing as long as I was shaking him! I step back and clench my fists. My fist hits the wall to my left. A hole is made. Finally Alter stops and understands my annoyance. He looks at me silent for a few seconds. He pushes back his glasses.
"Honestly I wish I wasn't using Bernard's name so fast. Or ever for that matter. And I certainly wasn't prepared for the monsters make big fuss about it. I didn't want it be revealed like that, but... I guess you gotta know now a few more things..." He says.
"How you, a priest, has connections with him? How didja meet him and when?" I ask a little calmer but not less impatient. He looks at me with an enigmatic smile.
"I thought you would figure out by now. But I'll make it clear..." He says and pauses again. I cross my arms.
"Well?" I ask. But the next thing he says catches me off guard.
"Vincent, my old friend from the monasteries and Bernard are one and the same person."
