Chapter 13- Dil's POV
"See you tomorrow, May!" I called out. My best friend, May, turned around and smiled at me.
"See you tomorrow, Dil! Say hi to your dads for me!"
"Will do." I smiled and watched her for a second as she walked away with some of her other friends. I walked home from school, a smile still plastered on my face. Every moment I spent with May was amazing, I was closer with her than I had ever been with anyone.
I thought of her on my entire walk home from school, how hopelessly I was crushing on her. My dads had said that when I was 15, I could have a girlfriend or boyfriend, but a year later I still hadn't had one. I had feelings for nobody but May, yet I was scared to ask her out, not wanting to ruin the friendship.
Maybe someday.
Fifteen minutes later, I arrived home. From the looks of it, nobody was home; Dad Phil was at work, and Dad Dan must've been out. I saw that the mailbox was full, so I grabbed the mail, idly flipping through it as I unlocked the door.
College letters- already?
Junk.
Adverts.
And one, two, three addressed to Dad Dan. I looked at them suspiciously, as he rarely if ever got letter. Usually it was Dad Phil, pertaining to work.
One was addressed from somebody named "Lily" another from a "Kayla" both of which didn't concern me, considering that Dad was gay, but when I saw one from a "Peter" I was concerned.
After making sure we had extra envelopes, I took the three to my room, hoping that nobody would get home soon. I carefully opened the letter, making sure I didn't tear the contents. The first one I opened was from Lily.
"Hey, Grandpa Dan," it began.
Grandpa Dan? I was Dad Dan's only child, he couldn't possibly have a grandchild.
I read the rest of the letter, something about "schizophrenia" whatever that is, another girl named Alyssa, Lily's mum.
I set it aside, opening the one from Kayla. More things that seemed unimportant. I pieced together that Kayla was Lily's mum, she was concerned about the schizophrenia, finding it odd that Lily had it, because Dan did, too.
What?
I opened Peter's letter last, and that's when I lost it.
"My love, Dan," it began.
My love?
MY LOVE?
I heard the front door open, I angrily stormed out to see Dad Dan coming in. "Hey, Dilly! How was school tod-"
"WHO. THE. HELL. IS PETER?" I screamed, wielding the letter like it was a weapon.
"What?"
"I WANT ANSWERS, DAD! HAVE YOU BEEN HAVING AN AFFAIR, YOU HAVE CHILDREN? GRANDCHILDREN? WHAT ARE YOU HIDING?!" I realized that I had started crying, but I ignored the tears.
Dad Dan paled, then sighed. "Dil, calm down. There's something I need to talk to you about, but we're waiting until Phil gets home. I'll call him and tell him to come home early.
I was too angry to say anything, so I threw the letter down, and went to my room and slammed the door.
