"You're right," you say, looking up at Emery. "I just... it's hard to let go."

"I get it," he says, risking a smile at you. "Hey, I know what'll make you feel better."

He fishes inside of his pocket, and tosses you a Cliff bar. 

You huff a laugh and peel the wrapper. "Where'd you find that?"

"That one Dauntless's hidden train stash," Emery says, slinging his arms over his knees. "He's cagey."

You both laugh, the sunset illuminating your backs. You split the bar in half and pass it to him. He takes it, taking a bit.

"We choose our jobs tomorrow, you know," he says, chewing thoughtfully. "I think-"

"You're going to make a great scavenger," you say.

"You knew?" he says, incredulous. "How'd you know I wanted to be a..."

"Come on, I've known you forever," you say, smacking his shoulder. "Of course I know what you want to do."

You both talk about your plans, your dreams, and suddenly the night outside is dark and starry. 

"Goodnight, Emery," you say, standing to go. He looks up and smiles at you, but doesn't get up.

"Goodnight, Y/N," he says, hiding a grin, turning back to fiddle with some broken glass on the ground.
