Chapter Two

Choice one has been selected.

Trigger warning for:
Death.

In silent agreement, the three of them rushed back into the building, determined to save their neighbour. They ran up the stairs, weaving through the sea of panicked people, panting by the time they reached the third floor.

"Logan? Logan?!" Virgil yelled, banging on the mans door when he realised it was locked. Why hadn't he tried to get out yet?

"V-Virgil!" His voice came from inside, clearly distressed. "My wheelchair is gone!"

The three roommates looked at eachother in shock. The science teacher needed it to get around, how on earth did he loose it?! Despite the confusion, they knew they didn't have much time as smoke began to advance towards them.

In a split second, Roman moved backwards and then ran towards the door, kicking it down. He then headed inside, rushing to lift Logan as the other two scrambled to try find the mans wheelchair.

"Leave it! We should get outside immediately!" Logan demanded, his frail lungs already coughing from the smoke. Roman nodded and left the apartment, feeling slightly relieved when he saw the stairs were clear. He carried the man downstairs, terrified.

Patton and Virgil quickly followed, not noticing the creaks of the floorboards as they raced after them. Unfortunately for Virgil, he stepped on a particularly rotten piece of wood and screamed as he fell through the floor, his legs dangling into someone's apartment.

"Virgil! oh my goodness!" The fatherly friend shrieked, trying to pull him back out, crying all over again. He wasn't as strong as Roman, and cursed himself for never taking up his friends offer to go to the gym together. "It's gonna be okay, I-I'll get you out!" he exclaimed, coughing as the smoke finally reached them, the fire not far behind.

"No! Get out! Patton, please!" He crief, his entire body shaking from the strength of his sobs, pieces of wood digging into his flesh. "Get out, please, I can't-"

As the flames grew closer, Patton whimpered, shaking his head. He couldn't leave him, he couldn't! Of course he didn't want to die, but he wouldn't be able to live with the guilt if he left anyways, so he continued trying to pull him out.

With each tug, Virgil wailed in pain, his stomach littered with splinters and tears.
"Patton, stop!" He yelled, coughing harshly.

But he couldn't stop, he kept tugging at his arms, only to scream when the floor broke evem more and Virgil fell downwards. He tried to catch him, but missed, and watched as his best friend fell, sobbing when he heard a loud CRACK as Virgil's skull smashed.

The last thing Virgil saw before his word went black was Patton's terrified face lit up by the orange flames.
