Chapter 9: Mike Teavee
Erica's POV:
The live footage was inside the living room, and just to see a boy sitting on the floor in front of the television, playing a violent-sounded video game while his parents are standing nearby. "All you had to do was check the manufacturing date, offset by weather, and the derivative of Nikkei Index. A retard could figure it out." Mike Teavee drawled. I tilted my head in confusion as I turned to Charlie and asks, "What did he say?" He just shrugged in confusion as well. In fact, he had made us all confused here. Good lord, does he even know what he was saying?
"Most of the time, I don't what he's talking about." Said Mr. Teavee. I nod in agreement, right he was. "You know kids these days with all the technology..." "DIE! DIE! DIE!' Mike suddenly yelled in a violent way, making me put my hand over my heart due from shock. A kid shouldn't say that god for saken word. Oh, may God help and guide this technology addicted boy as he grows up.
"Doesn't seem like they stay kids for long." Mr. Teavee continued. "In the end, I only had to buy one candy bar." Said Mike Teavee. "And how did it taste?" The reporter asked. "I don't know, I hate chocolate." Said Mike. "Oh come on! If you hate chocolate, why are you going to a CHOCOLATE factory?! You could've easily given the ticket to somebody else!" I yelled, annoyed by him.
And that's when angry Grandpa George started yelling. Oh goodness, I need to prepare Charlie because I know that it will contain a lot of swearing that I don't want him to hear. "WELL, IT'S A GOOD THING YOU'RE GOING TO A CHOCOLATE FACTORY, YOU UNGRATEFUL LITTLE BAST-" I quickly cover Charlie's ears with my hands, preventing him from hearing grandpa's obscene tirade.
I smiled at Charlie and he smiled back. But anyways, I am utterly speechless by that boy. How could even one hate chocolate? And what kind of creature an individual could be due by their hatred for chocolate? Oh, I don't know, I just can't believe them. I don't know how Mr. Wonka will react to that boy when he sees him. I can only imagine. I bet he will not like him as much as I do now.
Once Grandpa George is all done, I removed my hands from Charlie's ears. "The question is who would be the lucky finder of the last golden ticket?" The reporter said as my cousin shuts the television off. He then turned to Uncle. "Dad?" Yes, Charlie?" Uncle asked. "Why aren't you at work?" Charlie curiously asked. "Yeah, I noticed too. Why Uncle? What happened?" I asked. "Well, Charlie and Erica, uh, nothing happened, the toothpaste factory just thought that they'd give me a bit of time off." Said Uncle, making me frown. "You mean, like summer vacation?" I asked, still frowning.
"Sure, something like that." Uncle answered. Well, I don't believe him, something definitely happened, I can see it through his eyes. But oh well, I know he can look for another job that's more better. But I am here with a job so I can still help our family while he's searching for a new job. Then I remember Charlie's chocolate bar which I almost forgot about.
"Oh, Charlie!" I said, "Yes, Erica?" "I got something for you." I said excitedly. "What was it?" Said Charlie, noticing my excitement making him excited too. I smiled widely before revealing a Wonka bar which I sequestering the entire time. My cousin grinned as he gets the candy bar from my hand.
"Erica, you don't know how happy I am for this." "I know! And remember when I told you that I would give you one of those Wonka bars in surprise." I said as he nodded. "Yes, I remembered." Said Charlie. "This is it, Charlie, the surprise!" I sang, making them chuckle. "Thank you!" He said in joy, giving a hug. "For you Charlie, for you." I said kissing the top of his head. "Well go on, open it! And see if we're lucky this time."
Charlie unwrapped the Wonka bar with my fingers crossed. Once he removed the wrappers, we got no luck-- no Golden Ticket inside. I sighed in disappointment but smiled at my upset cousin. "It's alright, Charlie. At least your cousin tried." Grandpa Joe said. This is so utterly disappointing, but I know that I won't stop until I get that last golden ticket for Charlie.
