Chapter 7: Veruca Salt

Erica's POV:
I came home from long day at work the next day and immediately told them about what I had read in the newspaper this morning. The second golden ticket was found by a lucky girl named Veruca Salt from Buckinghamshire, England. We then turn the television on, and the news shows the winner of the second golden ticket.

"Veruca? Can you spell that for us, please?" The reporter asked. "V-E-R-U-C-A. Veruca Salt." The owner of the same wearing a flashy smile while showing off her golden ticket into the cameras. I can already tell that she's a spoiled brat due by her demeanor haughty attitude. Well, it's clearly visible. "I wonder if she knows she's named after a wart." I said, causing my family to laugh.

"Soon as my little Veruca told me she had to have one of these golden tickets, I started buying up all the Wonka bars I could lay my hands on. Thousands of them. Hundreds of thousands. I'm in the nut business, you see, so I say to my workers, 'Morning, ladies! From now on, you can stop shelling peanuts, and start shelling the wrappers off of these Wonka bars instead.' Three days went by and we had no luck. The wait was terrible. My little Veruca got more and more upset every day. She just kept begging me to give her, her golden ticket." Said Mr. Salt. "Well, gentlemen, I just hated to see my little girl unhappy like that. I vowed I would keep up the search until I could give her what she wanted. Finally, I found her a ticket."

"She's worse than the fat boy." I grimaced. "Right you are there." Grandpa George said in agreement as they nodded, "I know I'm rich and all, but come on! It doesn't mean I'm spoiled enough to beg my dad to find the ticket for me like her." I said. "I didn't think that was really fair-- she didn't find the ticket herself." Said Charlie, looking at Grandpa Joe. "Don't worry, Charlie. The man spoils his daughter, and no good ever comes of spoiling a child like that." Said Grandpa Joe.

"That's true grandpa." I said in agreement. "And no offence for what I'm going to say about her weird name. It sounds like some sort of type of skin disease. Just telling the truth." I added before shutting the television off, making them laugh enormously. "It does sound like." Said Grandpa Joe agreeing.

Just a few moments later, the door suddenly opened, and Uncle and Aunt Bucket quickly entered as they close the door immediately-- preventing the extremely cold wind from entering that will banish the great warm temperature inside. "Charlie, your mum and I thought maybe you'd want to open your birthday present tonight." Uncle said making Charlie smile in excitement.

"Here you are." Aunt said handing him the present. He then unwrapped it in excitement, revealing a delicious Wonka Whipple-Scrumptious Fudgemallow Delight bar as he stares at it in joy as we watch him in warmth. "I think I should wait until morning." Said Charlie. "Like he'll." Grandpa George grumbled. Uncle looked at him, "Pop!" He cautioned which makes me lowered my head again, resisting my laugher from escaping.

"Although, we're three hundred and eighty-one years old. We don't wait." Said Grandpa Joe. "Grandpa's right, Charlie, you shouldn't wait. And besides, even if you wait, the chocolate containing that wrapper will be just the same." I said, making them all nod in agreement. "Charlie, you mustn't be too disappointed if you don't get one." Aunt said as Charlie slowly started to slip out the aluminum foil that was covering the chocolate bar from it's main wrapper.

"And whatever happens, you'll still have the candy." Uncle added. Charlie started unwrapping the chocolate bar from the aluminum foil as we watch in anxiousness and excitement. And one he removed the foil, no golden ticket but only a bar of chocolate. Disappointment filled the air.

"Ah, well. That's that." Said Grandpa Joe. "We'll share it." Said Charlie. Grandpa Joe shook his head and said, "Oh, no, Charlie. Not your birthday present." "It's my candy bar, and I'll do what I want with it." Said Charlie, making me smile at him. Oh, God bless this wonderful and kind cousin of mine. He then breaks the chocolate into pieces and shares it out.

"Thank you very much, Charlie." I said with a warm appreciation smile. "And happy birthday." "You're welcome and thank you." Charlie replied returning the smile. We started eating our pieces of chocolate slowly, as we savour the deliciousness of it as it melts into our tongues. I look at my cousin, still hopeful that he will have one of those tickets.
