"You kids think this is some type of joke?! You can't summon it in this house!" Jungkook's grandma yelled furiously at four of them. Jungkook has never seen her this enraged.
She had bursted inside the house earlier. Her eyes widened in shock as they zone in on the board placed on the center of the room. She stomped in, her hands trembling with anger as she snatched the board, demanding an explanation.
"Ghosts aren't real, grandma. They are fictions of the mind. People believe in them out of fear. Now please give us the board so we can play." Jungkook stepped forward.
His grandma looked at him. Really looked at him. He saw her eyes turned sour, scrutinizing him and then his friends.
"Fine! Take the board!" She suddenly shouted, shoving the board on Jungkook's chest. "Do whatever you want! Don't go looking for my help once it kept you prisoner."
Then she stormed out of the house, a heavy weight upon her heels, but not before sending a glare to the four of them.
"Guys, s-she's kidding, right?" Hoseok laughed nervously after the lady slammed the door shut.
"Like I said ghosts aren't real. Now don't be a pussy, Hoseok. Let's just play the game."

Jungkook has never felt so suffocated in his whole life.
As they circled around the spirit board, he feels something heavy pushing down his chest. Sweat trickling down his forehead.
"Your hands are shaking, Jungkook." Hoseok softly says just for the two of them to hear. "Are you okay?"
Jungkook felt his stomach churning. The hairs on his body standing up as he chewed on his bottom lip anxiously. He stared at Hoseok then glanced at Yoongi and Taehyung who were reading the instructions and preparing the materials.
"It says we need blood, Tae. We'll use your blood, okay?"
"Why can't it be yours?" Taehyung whined dramatically, hiding his hands from the older.
Jungkook looked back at Hoseok. The older's eyes were scrunched with concern.
"Cut your own palm!" Taehyung hissed.
Yoongi cursed, hitting Taehyung in the head. "Fine." He grumbled.
"Jungkook." Hoseok grabbed his attention once more. "If you're really scared—"
"I'm not." The younger says quickly. Yeah. He's not scared.
"Are you worried about your halmeoni?"
"No." Jungkook sighed. He wasn't even thinking of his halmeoni until now that Hoseok mentioned her. "I feel...I don't know. I feel really weird."
It's true. He felt eerie about the room, the house, this whole situation. Like the walls of the house were blanketed with this unexplainable humming energy and he can hear it faintly though both of his ears.
"Let's start!" Yoongi declares enthusiastically. He's smiling like he's about to do something charitable and not summon a fucking demon in an abandoned house in the middle of nowhere.
Jungkook felt Hoseok squeeze his hand reassuringly. He almost laughed at how his hyung was the one comforting him when it's painstakingly obvious that Hoseok's the one who's scared shitless.
Taehyung cleared his throat. "Step one: Place thirteen candles around the board." He read out loud and clear. His voice booming on the four corners of the room.
"There were candles kept with the board in the box where I found it." Yoongi explained as he passed the candles to everyone. "Next step, Tae."
The latter nods. "Step two! Light the candles. It's important to leave one candle unlit for each person in the room or you'll never reach the end of the summoning."
Yoongi snickers.
Hoseok shivers.
Jungkook gulps. A numbness starting to form at the back of his head.
They all lit up the nine candles. Leaving one unlit in front of each of them.
"Step threeeee~" Taehyung announced with an aegyo, making everyone roll their eyes. "Place three drops of blood on the middle of the board."
Yoongi did just that. Not without mumbling that Taehyung was a pussy for declining to do it earlier.
As the last drop of blood hit the board, the lights flickered so suddenly. Hoseok shrieked as the windows close shut with a roar.
"Shit! Let's stop! Let's stop!" Hoseok rambled, his eyes wide with fear, shaking his head uncontrollably. "I don't want to die!"
"We're not going to die!" Yoongi shouted loudly, though there was an evident shake in his voice.
He was unsure of it himself. The way his eye twitched when the windows closed and the wind howled, Jungkook knew he was beginning to feel spooked.
Taehyung looked small as he huddled into a ball, cowering close to Hoseok's side, digging his fingers on the older's arm, clinging tight.
"Read the next instruction, Tae." Yoongi demanded sternly. With shaking hands Taehyung opened the crumpled paper inside his hand. "Step four, write your names on a piece of paper then burn it over the same candle."
Yoongi pulled out a paper and ripped it in four. They all wrote their names down and passed them on to Jungkook who burned it on the candle next to him.
"Ghosts are not fucking real." Yoongi gritted his teeth. "They're not real."
He's wrong.
So wrong.
Immediately, chills ran up Jungkook's back. An overwhelming heat surrounded his throat, prodding at his lips, pushing at his chest. His eyes roll back and his body twitching. The blood in his veins felt like they were slowly being mixed with acid.
"Step five," Taehyung mutters lowly as he holds on to Hoseok like his life depended on it. "Chant 'Will the spirit of midnight come out and play?' until you can feel his presence."
Their lips chanted the words slowly. The grandfather clock striking midnight and chiming in with whistling wind that howled louder and louder.
Hoseok clenched his eyes tight, thinking that this is the end of the road for him and his friends while he chanted the words. He clutched Taehyung's hand so tightly that it started to feel numb for the younger but Taehyung was trembling with too much fear to care because the chills on their back felt more real and more alive each passing second.
All four of the boys jumped when the light bulb overhead broke and pieces of shattered glass rained down on them. Jungkook felt a shard cut his cheek. He reached up to touch it and felt the blood dripping front the wound.
Everything went quiet.
Everything went still.
So, so silent that it's ringing in their ears.
A scream teared from Taehyung when footsteps sounded from the basement. They looked at each other with wide eyes. Yoongi immediately stood up and backed away from the gaping basement door. Hoseok and Taehyung scrambled back, reaching for the door. But as they grabbed hold of the door knob, it crumpled like a piece of paper on its own. They watched the scene unfold in front of them in horror.
"Fuck! Yoongi! I told you! I told you!" Hoseok screamed. He's past the point of caring that he sounded like a girl with how high pitched his voice became.
"Don't blame me! I didn't force you! I didn't force any of you!"
"You were trying to prove ghosts aren't real!"
"Jungkook!" Taehyung shouted at the maknae, grabbing the other two's attention. "Jungkook! Get up!"
Jungkook couldn't. He was frozen in place.
"Jungkook!" Hoseok yelled. "Yah! Jeon Jungkook!"
Yoongi tried to drag him back but the youngest slapped his hand away.
"Are you crazy?!" Yoongi tried to pull him back again but Jungkook shoved him away this time. "Jungkook?" The older looked at him in disbelief.
"I-I don't know what's happening, hyung." Jungkook cried out helplessly. "I-I—"
The thumping footsteps came closer and closer. They can hear the rickity stairs creaking under something's weight.
"Hyung, help." Jungkook reached out to them, his eyes brimming with tears.
Yoongi felt a powerful wave of guilt flood through him as he stared helplessly at Jungkook.
The footsteps were really near now. A shadow emerging through the flickering lights of the open basement door.
"It's a shame."
All their faces paled at the unfamiliar voice that travelled throughout the whole house. It almost felt like the voice was directly inside their heads.
"No one else can hear your pathetic screams from out here but me."
The shadow creeped closer until a man's silhouette became visible.
"But I'll take what I can get."
Every furniture. Every object inside the house started to shake. They gasped and screamed, feeling the ground vibrate and the air growing unbearably cold. The mysterious voice chuckled, as if amused.
"Oh I'll have so much fun."
A dark shadow shaped as a man stood directly in front of them. Its eyes were blazing red and its mouth pulled in a devious smirk.
"Are you ready to play with the spirit of midnight?"
