I'm viciously licked by a hellhound
When I started Highschool I thought I would be different, but I was obviously wrong. Now I feel like my dream of being a criminal profiler is never going to come true. I motivation is crap, school is crap, and I'm crap. And that's my life.
I was navigating to world history, the only class I had friends in. It was my favorite class because all we do is watch documentaries or movies about wars in third world countries. I really good at history and loved it, so naturally I did some homework in this class. But only there nowhere else.
When I walked into the classroom and pushed past a couple of jocks sitting at Sunny's (our teacher) desk. Nicole was sitting in her usual spot, one desk to the left and three desks up. I sat to the left of her against the wall and said hi.
Nicole was one of my only friends, she was really friendly, caring and gentle. But once you got to know her she was fierce, competitive and rude. Sort of like me. We shared a love for music and drawing, except I sucked at drawing she was amazing at it, and she was amazing with the guitar and I played the ukulele and sang.
"Hello," she greeted me with a dumb smile as she turned abruptly to me.
I mimicked her movement and returned the greeting. We talked for awhile about what we did yesterday after school, until Sunny-D played a movie called 'Only in April', it was really sad.
During the movie I was trying to take a nap but then I noticed something outside.
Outside through the windows there was large area of grass and on that grass was the biggest dog I have ever seen. It was a massive, jet black dog playing with guy that looked to be around 20. He had tan skin, and black hair with a gray streak in it, and he was wearing a purple shirt that had the letters: SPQR. I dont know about you but I'm pretty sure that Europe is devoid of any Roman empire. The dude looked over straight at me through the window, so did his dog. To be honest the dog was actually pretty cute.
After class I was still debating whether or not I even saw what I saw, or if I was dreaming. But then I saw the dude. He was looking around the ocean of angsty teenagers. I hid among the crowd and sped up the stairs (which was a very hard thing to do) to biology.
Biology was a bore as always, and after that I had geometry which was the worst class ever. It was so easy and the teachers method the the most flawed thing I have ever seen, and trust me I look in the mirror every morning. Geo was so boring that I started watching psychology crash course videos by Hank Green, and took notes.
When I left the school saw the dude again, I scurried to my apartment across the street. When I got inside my Gram was sitting on the couch like always greeted me.
"How was your day?" She asked.
"Good," I lied. "Can I have the keyboard bin my room?" Asked already knowing the answer.
"Yes, of course you can, just go get it from the garage." My Gram always spoiled me. She raised me since my mom died when I was one. When I was little she would tell me stories about the Roman gods and monsters to get me to go to sleep. I honestly don't know how stories about monsters helped a six year old go to sleep, but it worked.
I grabbed the garage door opener and walked out the door. On my way to the garage (it was pretty far away) I heard thumping it was coming closer from behind an apartment building. Then I heard yelling.
"STOP!! MRS. O'LEARY, STOP!!" The voice cried.
I stopped wondering what was happening but then the same giant dog I saw at school turned the corner and was lumbering towards me quickly. I started to run. But I'm a horrible runner so naturally the dog caught up and started licking me viciously.
'Ew!" I yelled in protest.
The guy that was looking for me at school ran up "Sorry about that. Mrs. O'Leary doesn't understand boundaries." He turned the dog. "Mrs. O'Leary, stop." The dog stopped licking me. He turned back towards me. "My names Percy Jackson." He smiles.
"Kai Blackwood," I returned.
His smile faded, "We need to talk."
"About that dog? Because that would be a very nice conversation topic."
He chuckled, "No, I want to talk to you about your dad." He cautioned.
I was really confused. How would this dude know about my 14 years dead dad?
"How do you know my dad?" I questioned skeptically.
"Because he's my dad too."
I was speechless. I stared at him with wide eyes.
"It's pretty complicated." He added.
"Complicated?!" I screamed, "You have some explaining to do, you can't just walk up to me and say your my half brother! Where have you been all this time!"
"Woah, Woah." Raised his hands to calm me down. He swallowed, "I've only known about this for a couple of weeks, okay? I didn't even know what you looked like. But you saw Mrs. O'Leary I knew it was you." He explained.
"What does that have to do with anything?" I sassed.
"Trust me, I'll explain that," he gazed around us. "But first we need to get inside."
We walked quickly back to my apartment, with Mrs. O'Leary following closely behind. We hurried through the door, I don't know why we were hurrying but Percy looked agitated. My Gram was sleeping on the couch right where I left her.
Percy sat me down at the table and started explaining everything, about the gods, the monsters, the Greeks and Romans. He told me about his adventures too. The huge storm on the east coast several years ago, holding the sky, Mount St. Helens exploding.
"That was you?" I inquired, "How? That was a giant explosion."
"Since I'm a child of Poseidon I can control water, so I summoned all the water I could and I exploded everything. I was really weak after that."
"So if your a son of Poseidon does that mean that I'm-"
He interrupted me. "Your a child of Neptune, the Roman version of Poseidon." He explained.
"Oh. Okay" I nodded. This was really confusing, but I know it was true, it's I've always known.
Percy had confusion written across his face. "You seem to taking all of this pretty well." He observed.
"Yeah, well everything seems to make sense, I don't know how, but it does." I agreed.
Percy shifted in his seat, "You need to go to Camp Jupiter, it's too dangerous for you to be here, I honestly don't know how you survived living this far west."
"But what about Gram? I can't leave her." I insisted as I stood up from my chair.
Percy stood as well, he put his hands on my shoulders. "Your grandmother isn't a powerful demigod that gets hunted by monsters." He reasoned.
"Just go." A voice said from the couch. We both turned to find my Gram was standing in front of the couch. "I can take care of myself, I've been waiting for this day since you turned twelve."
"Wait you knew about this?" I crossed my arms.
She nodded and walked towards me. "But it wasn't safe to tell you. Now go pack a bag, and take the ukulele with you." She ordered
I shook my head, "But it's yours. I can't."
"I want you to have it," she grabbed my shoulders and squeezed them. I proceeded to my room and packed my bag I grabbed the ukulele and the song book and hesitantly left, saying farewell to my Gram.
Percy was waiting outside with Mrs. O'Leary. "Ready?" he implored with a smile as walked towards him.
"I guess." I returned. Percy climbed onto the giant dog and held out his hand, I took it and climbed as well. "How exactly are we getting to this camp?" I stammered.
"Mrs. O'Leary is a hellhound, so naturally, shadow travel." He replied cheerfully.
"Wait, what?!" I shouted.
"Come on girl!" He yelled, and with that the hellhound bounded into a wall.
Yo! This is my fanfic! As you can see. I hope you like it. I'm a bit worried about the way I'm portraying Percy so please let me know what you think.
