Chapter Twenty Five
We return back to the city it's quiet like usual, but as soon as we turn a couple corners life begins to show itself slowly before instantly filling the streets. The people are busy walking around and ignoring us. One day here and we're already old news.
Instead shop keepers and families staring at us, they are talking and whispering with each other while holding their children close.
What's going on? I haven't been here for long and I already know something is up.
As we walk down the grassy street and avoid trees a little brave boy catches my hand. His brown fingers wrap tightly around mine and he stops me from walking. I immediately stare at him in disbelief as the busy street of gossiping and people falls into a hush.
Luke, Adam and Danial stop to stare at me while I bend down to be eye level with the child. His dark hand reaches for my face and brushes my cheek lightly before nodding his head.
"Can I help you?" I ask smiling at his quiet, dark brown eyes.
The boy shakes his head but returns my smile and lifts my hand to his face. My white, pink skin seems to brighten as it's brought to his soft, chocolate coloured face.
"Miles!" Another little boy calls out to him taking him by the hand and dragging him away, "you can't trust this hag."
My mouth pops open and I stare in shock, did an eight year old boy just called me a hag? Luke, Adam and Danial move to my side and each of them stare at the boy who called me a hag.
"Is that the way to treat our guests?" Luke asks raising an eyebrow, "I mean she isn't easy on the eye but she is certainly no hag."
I don't know if I should be grateful he stood up for me or upset that he still called me ugly. I don't need his approval on my looks, I don't need anyone's, but it's nice to be recognized as beautiful. Feeling beautiful and confident is a feeling I'm not used to.
"Well I heard that she's the leader of the Undergrounders!" The little boy yells as the people give each other disapproving looks. "Her people are taking over our land because they're tired of the dark they put themselves in."
"Well he has a point," Luke gives me a look over his notched brow, "they crawled out of the ground disgracefully, like a fungus, a virus, like cockroaches they survived the plague and continue to infest our land."
Now murmurs of approval ripples from the crowd and heads begin to nod. They all seem to really like Luke, they trust him. "But she," Luke breaks off the dangerous mumbles with a loud voice before pointing at me, "her people have decided to help us, and in return we will help them. Soon you will understand, but until than no harm shall come to theses people. Treat them as our own. Any crime committed against the Immunis will be punished with the same authority and equality as one else."
"Immunis?" The little pale boy scoffs holding Miles behind him, "that's what they call themselves?"
"Yes." I snap stepping past Luke and lift my head with pride, "we do not associate with the Undergrounders. In fact," I pause as all the judgemental looks scrap off my protective shield layer by layer, "in fact, we want to kill them."
With that I walk away from Miles and his friend who had a dumbfounded look stretched onto his face. I smirk and brush past Luke who quickly follows before passing me, "be careful Princess, this isn't your kingdom to rule."

As I reach the block where we slept last night I expected to hear silence accompanied by birds singing and the soft sprout of a water spring like last night. Instead, I hear people. Lots of people.
Turning around the corner 250 people stare at us blankly. Adam and Danial stop short behind me as we stare into the crowd of uncomfortable people. Suddenly, a familiar worn face I emerges from the crowd, John. He gracefully steps through the barrier of people smiling as my mother pushes her way through the followed by Issy.
"Jean!" Mom yells as she crashes through the human wall, rushing towards me her arms outstretched welcoming me into a hug.
I walk into it willingly and hold her tightly, "Mom."
Issy jumps into our hug and wrenches Mom off of me, "Mom you're going to kill her if you hug her any tighter, let her breath." With that Issy embraces me tightly forcing me to groan.
"Hypocrite," I whisper in her ear as th last of my air is forced out of my lungs, "Issy, let go. Please?" I try to breath breaking way from her insufferable hug, "I literally saw you a couple hours ago and mom, I love you but look behind." I nudge my head to the crowd of staring eyes. I'm not one to flourish in the centre of attention, in fact I do the exact opposite unless I have to fake it.
Taking a step towards John, Issy let's me go to hug Danial and Adam. I think I can hear their ribs cracking under her bear-like grip.
"John," I approach him looking around, "what's going on?"
"The Bellator Clan brought us here promising us to see you and catch up with what's going on. So, I think the real question is, what did you do?" John turns to look at the chatting group behind us who seem to be mystified by the concrete buildings laced in green.
Bellator Clan, isn't that Warrior in Latin? It does suit Luke very well, but it makes me think that there are near by clans which have different names. Perhaps I'm too skeptic of this situation, but it's a thought worth thinking.
I sigh and look around before my eyes land on Luke who's standing with his arms cross and fingers outstretched to his bow, "Luke," I call earning a glare from him before he briskly walks to my side.
"What?" He snaps clearly on edge as his eyes scan the jade towers surrounding us which have his men perched in the windows.
"This is John," I open my hand to John as he smiles and stretches his hand out to shake Luke's, "John this is Luke, he is a warrior and spy for the Bellator Clan."
"I'm not a spy and much more than a warrior for this Clan," Luke scoffs shaking his head.
"Sorry," I apologize smirking, "Luke is much more than a spy and warrior, he's also the designated prick and Leader of the impudent insolents of this Clan."
John raises his eyebrows as Luke spits on his hand and shakes John's outstretched one, "how impudent is that for you?" Luke snaps walking away.
"I'm so sorry John," I apologize for Luke's manners as John wipes off his hand with piece of fabric.
"What a charmer," John smiles and shakes his head, "so what is it you want to tell me?"
"Well I was hoping to tell you with Luke but if not I'd prefer to go somewhere private," I tilt my head to a space between two buildings. John nods and follows me willingly until we stop, "You know what Stratis looks like on a map, right?"
"Quite well, I grew up between levels and learnt a lot about each one. Of course there are still grey areas like parts of the First Layer and the Centre, but I know most spaces and paths." John pauses and looks me in the eye, "why?"
Ignoring his question I continue to press for information, "and you know which doors are locked, switches for powering doors, lights, major electrical power outlets , vents, power plants, exits, entrances, water manes, pipes, everything?" I raise an eyebrow as my heart beats heavily against my rib cage.
"Yes of course, all of those things," John shakes his head, "but Jean, why do you what to know?"
"Because I need you to make a map."
