Shmaptin Shmerica
The airport was huge. From Peter's vantage point behind a container, he could see the planes spread along the asphalt for a long distance, broken up by gangways, containers and the actual building.
"Spidey, you focusing?" Frostbite whispered, keeping her eyes on a van in front of them.
He nodded, looking back at the van. The Rogues were talking with the Avengers, something about surrendering from what Peter could hear. Tony was growing increasingly agitated as Steve refused, ultimately giving up on a peaceful surrender.
"Underoos!" He called.
That was their signal. Spider-Man flipped up, yanking the shield out of Steve's grasp and webbing his hands together. Frostbite shot out, skating along the newly formed ice, aiming it at the captain's feet. They both stopped simultaneously, Spider-Man landing on the van and Frostbite beside it.
"Hey everyone," Spidey said, giving them a wave.
"Nice work, kid."
"Well," he began, "I could have stuck the landing a little better, it's probably the new suit- it's nothing Mr Stark, it's perfect, thank you-"
"Yeah this isn't the time to start up a conversation, Spidey," Frostbite hissed.
"Right, my bad. Cap, big fan- ow-" He winced as Frostbite slapped him with a shot of water. Tony resisted the urge to roll his eyes and turned to Steve. The captain gave a grim smile and raise his hands, ripping the webbing apart as a pair of arrows went for his webbed hands and iced feet.
The two teams launched at each other, everyone pairing off into fights. Natasha went head-to-head with Clint, both of them pulling their punches. Wanda interfered, throwing Black Widow away with a tug from her fiery magic. She then shoved Blank 0anther away from Bucky and went to attack, but something stopped her. Under her boots, her feet grew cold, latching into place. The witch whirled around, glaring. A young girl in a glittery white suit smiled innocently, giving her a wave.
"Hello! Hopefully don't mind," she said sweetly. Wanda growled and the ice around her shattered in a red haze. She began her advance, throwing cars and containers at the girl, but she blocked each one with a shield of ice, walking backwards calmly.
"How are you doing that?" Wanda asked, panting.
Frostbite cocked her head. "Same way you are. My mind."
Red and blue clashed, ice against telekinesis, mind against mind. Wanda fought hard, but so did her opponent. It wasn't long till she squeezed her eyes shut, a tsunami of frigid water raining down on her. She gasped, her lungs paralyzed in shock for a split second. "I'll get you back for that!" She yelled. Frostbite merely smiled.
"Sure."
Meanwhile, on the other side of the airport, Spider-Man was swinging. Halfway through the air, he fell, the web snapping as a shield cut through it. He landed in a roll on a truck, looking around for the captain. "That thing does not obey the laws of physics at all," he said.
Steve pulled his shield from the sky. "Look kid, there's a lot going on here that you don't understand-"
"Mr Stark said you'd say that." Tony hadn't really, but if there was one thing Spidey had learnt from watching his sister, it was to make his opponent feel inferior. Recalling a vine he had watched ages ago, Spidey shot a web at Captain America's ankles, pulling him towards him. Shooting two more, he leapt off the truck, sliding across the ground to meet Steve. With a powerful kick, the captain went flying through the air, hitting the side of a container. Spider-Man flipped past, ready for an attack. "He also said to go for your legs."
Steve shot up suddenly, running for his shield. Spidey webbed each hand, straining as he pulled the man away from the shield. Come on, come on, come on.
Steve flipped, pulling Peter over his head and flinging him through the air. The spider yelped, his brain freezing as he panicked.
Frostbite, who had moved nearby, whipped around at the sound of her brother's yelp "Spidey!" She watched as he collided into the ground, his shoulder taking the brunt.
Wanda took her time to strike, wrapping coils of red smoke around her opponent. Frostbite struggled, determined to make sure Peter was okay. "Let. Me. Go!" Peter groaned again and Evie fought harder. Her legs dangled in the air and Wanda could see that her shoes were actually ice. The witch finally looked up into Frostbite's cold eyes. Wide and full of concern, she kept glancing back at Spider-Man, trying to force her way out of the bonds.
She's worried about him. She cares about him. Wanda lost focus on what she was doing. The red exploded, Evie dropping down in the middle. Ice crawled across the floor, encasing the Scarlet Witch in a freezing prison. With one hand still glowing blue, Frostbite glanced over at where she had last seen her brother.
He had vanished.
Spider-Man had finished up with Cap, finally throwing the heavy gangway off before it crashed down on him. He then took off, running across the building. Sam looked up as Bucky exclaimed, "What the heck is that?"
"Everyone's got a gimmick now." They took off, but not fast enough. With some quick calculations, Spidey swung in through the window. Glass shattered as he kicked the Falcon out of the way. Pins and needles ran down his spine and he whirled around, a metal fist launching into his open palm. Bucky's eyes went wide as his fist stopped. The arachnid turned the arm over, inspecting the prosthetic.
"You have a metal arm? That's awesome, dude!"
Bucky stared at Spider-Man in wonder. Not only had he stopped his metal arm, but he was young. Like, Steve-before-the-serum young.
Before anyone could blink, Sam flew in, grabbing his opponent harshly. Spidey struggled, grabbing Sam's face. "You have a right to remain silent!" He got thrown at the roof for that remark.
Outside, Wanda had thrown Frostbite onto her back. She glared down, almost inviting the girl to fight her again.
Tony intervened first. With a repulsor aimed at the Sokovian, he hovered above them, scanning the wet, ice-covered floor. "Wanda, I think you hurt Vision's feelings."
Evie sat up as Wanda shot back a retort. "You locked me in my room."
"Okay first, that's an exaggeration. Second, I did it to protect you. Hey Frosty," he said to the girl behind them.
She nodded a greeting. "Mr Stark behind you-"
Tony whirled around, dodging and exploding Clint's arrow. "I don't need glasses like you, you know."
Frostbite rolled her eyes. "Doesn't mean you use your eyes-" she shot back as cars began falling. Ice formed a shield above her, but oddly, the cars missed. Iron Man ducked and weaved, but to no avail. Metal and rubber crushed him and Tony found himself literally between a rock and a hard place.
"Multiple contusions detected."
If Tony had the strength, he would have rolled his eyes at the A.I. "Yeah, I detected that too."
Wanda turned back to Frostbite. "I don't want to hurt you. I think we have a lot in common. However-" she smiled at her nails, the thick accent shining through her voice, "-I can't disappoint the captain."
Evie yelped as metal walls closed in around her, swishing her like a sandwich in a tight box. "Well this isn't ideal," she muttered.
Above her, still in the building, Spider-Man sung through the metal beams, chasing Sam. The man spun and shot at the webs but the vigilante still swung through. Landing on a railing to catch his breath, his neck tingle again. "Oh gosh." He ducked, narrowly missing something thrown by the Winter Soldier. "Hey buddy, I think you lost this!" He pegged the bit of metal back at the soldier, who just missed being sliced in half. Sam intervened again and they launched into another fight, Spidey finally webbing the two up. "Are those carbon fibre?" He asked, regarding Sam's wings.
"Is this stuff coming out of you?" The man shot back.
"That would explain the rigidity: flexibility ratio which, gotta say, that's awesome."
The Falcon raised his eyebrows at the kid's outburst. "I don't know if you've been in a fight before, but there's usually not this much talking."
"Alright, sorry, my bad." He swung down, sending the crashing to the ground. "Look, I'm really sorry guys, but I've got one job here today and I gotta impress Mr Stark, so I'm really sor-AAAAAAAH!" His scream faded as Redwing flew him away, leaving Sam and Bucky stuck on the floor.
Frostbite growled. This metal sandwich was getting really uncomfortable. "Alright," she whispered, "where's the water at?" The problem with her magic was that unless she could see the liquid, she couldn't get to it. She compacted herself as much as she could, twisting to find a hole, a crack it a gap of any sort. After finally finding a hole, she peeked through, angling herself so she could see the sky. Puffy, white clouds drifted lazily ahead, big and full of water. "Perfect." Using every ounce of strength she could, Frostbite pulled a cloud from the sky, wedging it inside the tiny hole. Once it was all trapped with her, she shuffled to the middle, pushing the water vapour against the walls. Then, she pushed. The mist turned solid as it expanded, straining against the old steel. The space slowly grew larger, allowing Frostbite on her knees. The walls gave way and in an explosion of shards and scrap metal, she broke free. "I'm not afraid of you, Wanda!"
Wanda was nowhere to be seen. But a giant Ant-Man was.
"Holy-"
Frostbite whirled around, spotting Spider-Man with the same expression as her. Ant-Man laughed, War Machine firmly in his grasp. He threw the Colonel at a nearby plane.
"I got him," Spider-Man said, attaching a web to Rhodes as he flew over their heads. With the web in his hands, Spidey planted his feet firmly on the side of a truck, smashing it in the process but stopping Rhodes from combusting from hitting the plane.
The tables had turned and the Rogues were starting to win. Spider-Man, now flying behind War Machine on a web, swung around the giant's arm before sending a kick to the face. It did something, but not enough.
Spidey racked his brain for ideas, part of his mind on how to take down the Rogues while also not trying to get grabbed by Ant-Man. Giant-Man? Who knew. Man, Ned would love to hear about this. He blinked, his mind racing. "Hey, Anybody seen that really old movie? Empire Strikes Back?"
"Geez Tony, how old is this guy?" Rhodey asked incredulously.
"I don't know, I didn't carbon-date him, he's on the young side!" Stark replied.
Frostbite perked up from where she was on the ground. "You don't need to carbon-date someone to know their age, Stark! You could always ask!"
Spider-Man ran around the giant, webbing him up. "You know the part," he started, panting, "where they're on the snow planet..."
Frosty rolled her eyes. "He's been watching too much," she muttered. She thought back to the scene, a light bulb switching in her brain. "With the walking thingy!?"
"Maybe the kids are onto something."
"High now Tony, go high!"
Spidey swung around the gigantic legs, wrapping them up nearly. Scott started to stumble, unable to control his large form anymore. Tony and Rhodey launched at his face, tipping him back as the twins cheered.
"That was awesome- oomph!" The web-slinger was smacked from the sky, rocketing through the air, skidding along the ground.
"Spidey! Frostbite screamed as Ant-Man fell towards her, the force of him dropping onto the floor sending her stumbling and sliding to join her brother. They lay there, panting as the adrenaline started to fade.
Tony flew over, landing in front of them. He reached for Spidey's shoulder. "Hey, kid you alrigh-"
Peter jerked back, fighting.
"Woah, hey, same side. Guess who."
He finally saw who it was and stopped, his chest heaving. "Oh. Hey man. That was scary."
"Yeah, you're done, alright?" Tony said firmly.
"What? I'm good, I'm fine-"
"You did a good job. Stay down."
"No, it's good, I gotta get him back-"
"Peter."
He looked over to where Evie was sitting, finally ceasing his fight with Tony. "Just listen to him. I am so done I can't even think straight oh my gooooosh..." she flopped back, rubbing her forehead. "Wanda gave me a migraine."
Peter nodded, giving up. "Okay... Yeah, I'm done."
"Good. Let's get you back home."
Peter helped Evie up, turning to Stark. "Did we win?"
Tony looked around and the wreckage. The airport was almost unrecognizable after all the damage it had done. "Yeah. We won."
