outro: epilogue
joshua huffed with frustration buried in his throat as he exited the office of his high school guidance counselor. outside, waiting near the wooden door stood jun with a small smile on his face. the purple haired male waved at his boyfriend eagerly, as jun was excited to hang out with the brunet. jun paused though, dropping his smile and adopting a more concerned expression as he realized that joshua had seemed to be irritated.
"are you okay? you seem a bit pissed off." jun lowered his voice. he abandoned his usually high-pitched and energetic tone to instead make use of a more serious one that would hopefully show his worry towards the ill expression on the brunet's face.
"they messed up the calculations for my community service hours so now I don't have enough to graduate. seriously how hard could it be to add a few numbers up, I did all the work!" joshua whisper-yelled as both he and jun slowly left the school building. the further they got away from the building, the louder joshua got with expressing his anger. it got to the loknt where the two paused to stand in the courtyard in front of their school just so that joshua could get everything on his mind out in the open.
the brunet furrowed his eyebrows as he continued on with his rant, all while jun nodded and paid attention to every word that came out of his boyfriend's mouth. "now I have to figure out how to get twenty hours of service within the next two months on top of maintaining all of my grades and studying for finals. seriously what the hell?"
"I'm sure you'll figure it out somehow. I helped out at the school library for my hours, maybe they have a spot available for you?" jun suggested carefully as he patted joshua on the back calmly. the two had grown more accustomed to being affectionate with one another, especially jun who was practically ready to cling to joshua at any given moment. the brunet usually protested when jun happened to be in a clingy mood, but really joshua didn't mind at all; he just enjoyed pushing jun's buttons.
it appeared at joshua was pretty content with getting jun's suggestion because the brunet eased up his stance and then ruffled the purple hair on jun's head, evoking a small giggle from the chinese senior. the two continued with walking towards to the exit so that they could spend the day with one another in the city rather than standing in the middle of the school's front yard all day. however, chatter coming from students passing them by caught jun's attention who abruptly stopped joshua so that they could clearly hear what was going on.
"woah guys look! we have to check it out, that's totally looks like it's the new transfer student!" a student pointed out to their peers as they gestured to a figure walking towards the school building. jun glanced over to see a dark haired teenager, looking around the same age as him if not a year or so older. he squinted to observe the nonchalant expression on the new student's face. jun theorized that although it looked as if the transfer student didn't care at all about all of thr students obviously gossiping around him, somewhere inside it truly bothered the new student to be the center of attention.
"I heard from a student who was told by another student whose parent is friends with the science teacher who was informed by the principal that the new transfer student is definitely related to a celebrity!" a group of students were in awe by the rumors being spread around already. that made jun frown.
"seems like everyone is really pumped up about the new kid. I hope they don't invade his space too much, I know what it's like to be the new kid who everyone is obsessed with." jun muttered in an unsettled tone as he turned to face joshua. the brunet furrowed his eyebrows at his boyfriend with a confused gleam in his eyes. that was when the purple haired teenager smirked down at joshua with a hint of playfulness in his voice. "I mean you were obsessed with me in the beginning too."
"first of all, you never transferred to our school you've been here all along. secondly I hated you as soon as you started hanging out with us." joshua referred to the beginning of the year when he couldn't stand being near jun, let alone tolerate hearing jun's voice every day. it made him shiver internally knowing that they were now nearing the end of the year, being that it was spring and summer was only a few months away, and his feelings towards jun had changed so drastically. the brunet regretted not giving jun a chance sooner, but he was glad he finally did see the flaws in his ways. he didn't even remember why he hated jun so much back then. sure it was because he considered jun to be annoying, but now even the annoying parts of jun were charming and cute to joshua. "and now the hate has barely shimmered down to a slight dislike, so we're far from obsessed junhui."
"oh josh, I seriously doubt that." jun grinned as he noticed joshua's cheeks heat up in the warm sun. it was a cool day, but the sun was just starting to peek its way out from behind the clouds in the sky. hopefully that meant that the day would get warmer as it progressed. jun was never really too fond of the cold weather, with an exception for when it snowed. the purple haired student had way too many good memories associated with snowy days; there was no way he'd ever hate them.
"joshua! jun! how are you both doing on this fine afternoon?" both seniors turned to greet seokmin who was holding a stack of brightly colored flyers. trailing behind the tall junior was jihoon, another close friend of seokmin's who was also a senior. while seokmin wore a bright smile, jihoon seemed more downcast and only nodded to greet his fellow seniors. "jihoon and I were just handing out these pamphlets for the school baseball team. nobody really seems interested in joining though. you guys want a pamphlet? tryouts are next friday and we could really use you guys on the team."
"I'm sorry but I'll have to pass. doctor's orders, I can't play close contact sports like baseball because of my heart problems." jun sighed. being reminded of his heart problems still seemed to bum the energetic senior out when he remembered that he wouldn't be able to do certain things because of it. he was reminded everytime they had gym class, and was reminded now in this moment. however, his saddened expression didn't last long before jun smiled, grabbed a flyer, and then motioned to joshua eagerly. "joshua will though!"
the brunet glanced over to his boyfriend for an explanation as to why he was just offering him up to the team without consolation. jun could only reply with a short shrug as he handed the flyer in his hands to joshua. "you said it yourself you need hours and playing a school sport can get you hours."
"yeah, but I'm not any good at baseball." joshua mumbled to jun, hoping that neither seokmin or jihoon could hear the lack of confidence in his voice. the brunet didn't really consider himself to be the athletic type. sure he was moderately active, and he did eagerly participate in gym, but then there was the fact that he was more of a homebody at times. joshua preferred to stay home and catch up on his studies rather than go out and play sports all day.
"you don't have to be good to join, we just need enough members on the team so the school doesn't cancel our season this year." jihoon spoke calmy in an informative manner. both jihoon and seokmin had ended up overhearing what joshua had said, and they honestly couldn't care less if joshua was good at baseball or not. their primary concern really was just getting people on the team in general.
"just think about it okay? we would love to have you on the team!" seokmin patted joshua on the shoulder before both he and jihoon left the pair to meet up with another member of their baseball team that was trying to engage with the new dark haired student making his way to the school building.
"you would make a pretty good baseball player, there's no harm in trying out!" jun encouraged joshua, wanting to make sure that the brunet knew he had his support either way. sure the purple haired teenager noticed the way joshua seemed worried about the idea, but at the same time he knew that joshua would do well no matter what he set out to do; he had confidence in joshua's abilities.
"I'm still not sure but I have the week ahead of me to decide. I'll definitely think about it later on, right now there are way more dire things at hand to consider." jun raised an eyebrow at his boyfriend as he tilted his head to the side. joshua looked suspiciously happy for someone who was so stubbornly uptight most of the time. the only time joshua got this playful was either when he was in a good mood, when he passed a big test with a fat hundred, or when he was up to something. "you know, like that new bakery that's down the street from here. I heard they have excellent carrot cakes, we're going to have to be the judges of that for sure jun."
"anything for you and your sweet tooth." jun grinned widely before the pair set off, finally leaving the school grounds to walk towards the nearby bakery. they strolled leisurly, enjoying the company the other was offering while letting the warm sunshine heat them up. jun turned to face joshua so that he was walking backwards. the brunet sighed and held jun's hand while the purple haired student walked backwards so that jun wouldn't fall or bump into anyone. "you are paying though right?"
"I paid last time! and I took you ice skating! those tickets weren't cheap at all, I had to get an advance on my allowance from my dad just to pay for them and you know I barely talk to that old man!" joshua protested loudly with a glare pointed towards jun.
"well yeah, but I did buy you an ice pack the day after we skated so you owe me for that one." jun thought back to the day after their fun date. he headed to joshua's house after hearing complaints over the phone about how joshua was all bruised up and sore from falling over on the ice. the purple haired student arrived shortly after their conversation with an ice pack for joshua's bruises and some soup that his mother had urged him to take over for the brunet. he also remembered the way joshua had allowed him to be the big spoon that day; jun got to cuddle the weakened joshua who had no protests at all to the skinship. "if you really think about it, the ice pack was only five bucks but it costed much more than that. it's thanks to me that you can even walk now. my expert first aid skills put into using that ice pack saved you and your bruised legs josh. how does the cost of ice skating even compare to the miracle of being able to walk?"
"fine, we can just split it this time. let's just hurry and get there before the cakes are all sold out." joshua sighed, agreeing to compromise with jun rather than argue with him because he knew that his boyfriend would find some loophole that would guarantee him the win in their argument. it happened the last time they argued about joshua sharing his food with jun, and of course jun won by shining joshua that infamous pout of his.
"that's not any fun..." jun abruptly stopped in the middle of the sidewalk, almost causing for joshua to bump into him. the brunet watched as the gears in jun's head turned, signifying that the purple haired senior was up to something. "last one to the bakery pays for the whole bill!"
"junhui! seriously, why are you so childish??!" joshua called out as jun rushed to reach the bakery first. some of their fellow students passing by stared and smiled gleefully at the pair as they yelled at each other from either ends of the sidewalk.
"I'm not sure, but you love it anyways you can't deny it!" jun called out as he approached the bakery. the moment the purple haired senior reached the front of the bakery, he cried out and teased joshua for losing even though the brunet hadn't even tried to win against jun.
joshua sighed at the sight of his boyfriend dancing out his win in front of the bakery, gaining the attention from everyone on the block. the brunet finally caught up to jun after leisurely walking to the bakery as to not waste his energy, mumbling to himself before he did so, "I love it and you."
(spoiler alert: the two had ended up splitting the bill anyway. jun just wanted to have a race with joshua.)
