53 || even the strong need comforting
weekends were joshua's favorite days of the week for a number of reasons, the first being that they were days where he didn't have to go to school meaning he was free to study all day. the second was that when he wasn't studying, he was spending time with his friends whether it be going to the mall or just hanging out at either wonwoo's or mingyu's houses. the last was that weekends, including fridays, were when his mother didn't have to work which left her time to spend with her son. joshua usually didn't bother his mom on fridays because either he had plans with his friends or she had plans involving her bed and a nice twelve hour nap.
saturdays and sundays though were strictly mother and son bonding times. the two made it a tradition to spend every saturday and sunday morning together with a nice breakfast to start the day. it was during these morning sessions where the two caught up with one another; it was also during one of these breakfasts that joshua's mother found out about jun and her son's crush on the strange chinese male she had also grown fond of (they chatted occasionally on her timeline, either about joshua or a cooking show they both loved watching). no matter what they had planned for their days, both joshua and his mother always made sure to keep their mornings free for each other. that was why it was a big deal when joshua woke up to an empty house, with only a note from his mom informing him that he was yet again alone.
she had to cover a shift for a friend and would be back later on in the evening, but that still didn't help joshua feel any better about missing out on their morning tradition. in fact he felt torn down by the emptiness in the house. the brunette woke up with an uneasy feeling in his chest and he had been looking forward to talking it out with his mom. now he was just left with that horrible uneasy feeling and an empty house which was ironic because the absolute last thing he wanted was to be alone.
and so joshua decided that he wasn't going to be alone today. he wasn't going to resort to burying himself in books to hide from his fear of being alone, not when he had a very understanding boyfriend to go to. jun was someone he never felt alone with mainly because the purple haired teenager would never allow joshua to feel such a way when he was around. even when they were around other people jun made joshua feel like he was seen, like he was important. the brunette knew all about how jun felt when they were together, but joshua was sure that his boyfriend underestimated the effects of his own presence on him.
it took joshua half an hour to wander his way to jun's house. he walked really slowly because of the uneasy feeling in his chest that was just clawing at his insides. the only thing keeping him from not staying home cuddled up with a pile of assignments to keep him busy was the thought of jun taking him in and making that feeling in his chest disappear. his boyfriend was really good at distracting him from everything else going on in life; jun's carefree attitude was one of the things that joshua loved about him.
it then took joshua another minute to be let in by jun's father who greeted him with a warm smile. jun's parents were fond of him just like how his own mother adored jun as if he were her son as well. because of this, both families were comfortable with either of the two making surprise visits to the other's homes. jun even got into the habit of spending time with joshua's mother when joshua wasn't even home, that was how comfortable they were. jun's father also didn't question joshua's arrival and instead he directed the brunette right to jun's room where the purple haired student was residing.
"and so snow white started to live with the seven dwarfs although honestly it was more like they enslaved her because she basically was their maid and not by choice." joshua smiled just hearing the sound of his boyfriend's voice. he stepped into the doorway of the chinese male's and leaned against it as he watched jun start to enthusiastically preach to his younger brother about a fairytale, unaware of his presence. jun had mentioned to joshua once about how jackson also loved reading and would make him read books aloud to him, but he never mentioned how cute they both looked while doing so. "never let anyone make you their unwilling servant jackson, be with people who make you happy."
jackson nodded at his older brother's words. although he didn't exactly know what jun meant by them, he absorbed those words into his memory. the first grader trusted jun with his life so whatever jun said was taken very literally and seriously by jackson. the first grader listened to every word that came out of jun's mouth as the purple haired teenager continued on with reading. it was when jackson looked up to find the source of a soft cough that he spotted joshua standing in the room. "oh joshua's here!"
"hey you, you didn't tell me you were coming around here." jun smiled, taking his eyes off of the storybook in front of him so that he could instead look at his boyfriend. the brunette shrugged before walking into the room more so that he was standing at the foot of jun's bed. "it was a last minute decision, I just felt like coming over."
"jackson let's move over so joshua can join us okay?" jun sensed something was wrong with his boyfriend, considering the brunette had randomly decided to visit his home without calling first, so he figured it would be best to have joshua sitting with them on the bed at least after coming all the way to his home. jackson listened and immediately shifted to his left after taking the storybook from his brother's hands and clutching it tightly to his small chest. jun took advantage of that and used his empty arms to welcome joshua into them. the brunette sighed in relief after being accepted into those warm arms, laying in between jun's legs so that his head was resting comfortably in jun's lap. he hummed contently as he felt his boyfriend run his fingers through his hair before jun turned to his younger brother. "okay now that we're all settled in, why don't we continue with the story?"
joshua closed his eyes and exhaled deeply as he felt jun play with his hair. jackson had decided to hold the storybook for his older brother while they read together which mean jun was free to play with his boyfriend's hair as he pleased. somewhere along the way joshua moved so that his head was now laying towards jun's left inner thigh. his boyfriend had stopped running through his hair to point out a complex word in the fairytale to define for jackson so when he was done joshua looked up with a small pout which caused for jun to let out a light laugh. "okay fine you big baby, I'll keep playing with you."
"jun? can I ask you a question?" the purple haired male looked to his left after catching a few strands of joshua's dark brown hair into his hands. he turned to see his younger brother closing the book and staring at both him and joshua. the young first grader looked to be puzzled by their interactions. jun had assumed it was because jackson had never seen a couple before other than their mom and dad interact, but he laughed out loudly when jackson did continue on with his questions. "does joshua make you happy or are you both like snow white and the dwarves?"
"kid, believe it or not but I'm your big brother's servant. he makes me do everything for him!" the brunette answered quickly before his boyfriend could muster up a response. he laughed for the first time that day after seeing jackson's reaction to his words; the first grader gasped and then looked to his older brother for answers. how dare he make joshua his servant! especially since he was the one who had told jackson not to do so in the first place, how evil of him! and as jackson began to back away from his brother, jun rolled his eyes and slapped joshua's chest lightly in protest of what lies his boyfriend was telling jackson. "that is not true at all! don't believe his lies jackson, he's trying to corrupt your innocent mind with poison!"
"oh no like in the apple, no please don't!" jackson's eyes widened at the mention of poison and it wasn't long before the first grader ran off to fetch his father for help. the two boyfriends laughed as they watched jackson retreated; joshua hadn't expected for the firsg grader to react in such a way due to their joking around but it was all so worth it. he laughed as he turned around and buried his face into jun's abdomen. joshua smiled to himself when he felt his boyfriend's arms wrap around his upper chest and when jun leaned down to kiss the top of his head.
"well now he's probably scarred for life, or at least for the rest of today." jun mumbled to the brunette. now that they were alone they were more free to be with one another without a pair of eyes watching them. they were still getting used to the whole relationship scene and being affectionate with one another in public; it was just so much easier to love each other in private rather than show it off and receive harsh judgements. luckily they had the most amazing friends so it was easy to be around them and still be themselves. although there was still some degree of awkwardness to being all lovey dovey in front of their parents or jun's siblings, the couple was sure they'd grow used to it as time passed. "you seem down today, is everything alright? we can talk about it."
"I was lonely but I'm not anymore, not when you're holding me like this." joshua admitted easily, which was something he wouldn't have revealed months ago when the two were just getting to know each other. jun frowned when he realized that the brunette had come over because he felt such a way and hugged the top of his boyfriend's head closer to his stomach to show that he was there for joshua. in response joshua grabbed one of jun's hands and placed them on his own head, just like how the purple haired male had done before in the past. jun laughed at the memory of him doing so in the past and when he looked down at the brunette in a questioning manner joshua only shrugged. "I also like it when you play with my hair, it helps."
"I can do more than just that to help." jun smirked before leaning down to peck joshua on the lips. it was a quick little kiss that gave joshua a preview of what was to come after. the brunette smiled upwards at his purple haired boyfriend, nodding before moving his head backwards to give jun more access to close in for another kiss. jun hummed as he breathed in the vanilla scent of his boyfriend, making a mental note to tell joshua to lend him some of that body wash someday, and pressed his lips against the brunette's. jun pulled away to giggle when part of joshua's bangs had tickled against his forehead and wiggled their noses together when he finally pushed the bangs behind joshua's ears.
the clearing of someone's throat and a soft knock on jun's open bedroom door caused for the two to sit up and looked behind them. there stood jun's father sporting a sheepish smile as he scratched the back of his head awkwardly. he hadn't expected to see the two cuddling so closely to one another and was trying desperately hard not to make the couple feel too disturbed by his presence. "I'm sorry to interrupt but can you guys go tell jackson you're not planning to poison him? he's downstairs crying..."
jun's father left the room after getting a nod of confirmation from both teenagers. it was when he left that joshua finally stood up off of jun's bed and sighed. he had wanted to lay down in his boyfriend's warmth for a little more, but they did have to apologize to the first grader for messing around with him. "to be continued?"
"definitely."
