39 || unfunny funny jokes pt2

jun sighed miserably as he played with the iv in his arm, passing his fingers alongside the tube and watching the hanging bag of fluids slowly decrease in volume to pass time. it was his second day in the hospital and after a very draining first day in which he managed to disappoint his entire family all in one sitting, jun felt exhausted. the looks on his parents' face when he admitted to being irresponsible with his medication was unforgettable and would forever be engraved in his mind as a reminder to all the disappointment he caused them in both that day alone and in the whole entirety of his life.

the doctors were also disappointed and lectured him on the consequences of his actions. their solution involved getting stronger forms of medication for him and getting his parents to agree to allowing a therapist come in and talk to jun about why he did what he did. it was more of a safety measure to make sure the purple haired patient wasn't depressed, seeing as patients who suffered from depression were more susceptible to skipping medication doses. his parents were more than glad to agree to these terms, his mother even went on to preach the benefits of having a professional for jun to speak to which of course further agitated jun.

and now here he was, stuck in a hospital bed during an afternoon where he would have otherwise been there to spend time with his friends and joshua. come to think of it he really did miss the brunette's presence around him; the last time joshua saw him he collapsed onto the floor and that really wasn't a good last memory to have the latter linger on. at least jun didn't have to worry about hiding his disease from the brunette anymore, it didn't take a genius to figure out something was wrong with him.

"it took me at least an hour to get here from my house, you can at least smile for me." jun was sure he was hallucinating now because he thought he had just heard joshua speaking to him. the chinese male was ready to call a nurse into his room too until he saw the smiling senior standing in the doorway to his room. he hadn't heard from joshua so he figured that the brunette didn't really care as much as he thought he did, but seeing him here now was proof that jun was all wrong about that theory. he had only needed a day to calm himself down from seeing the purple haired patient pass out during their presentation and within that day all he could do was worry.

joshua tried burying himself in books and his studies to distract himself from the idea jun, someone he deeply cared for, was in a hospital bed somewhere and was possibly in pain while he was just fine. however, that didn't work as well as he had hoped. when joshua's parents had gotten a divorce the brunette buried himself in his academic work. when his father remarried he spent any time not at the ceremony reading continuously and when his mother took more shifts at her workplace, joshua coped with the loneliness by studying nonstop. for some reason jun was the only exception to his coping mechanism, and maybe that was because he loved jun.

"smile for you? I'm the one in the hospital bed, I need all the smiles I can get right now especially since I've used up all of my good jokes on the nurses already! they keep giving me pity smiles." the chinese male grinned, finally happy to have someone to keep him company. having his family around only made him feel more miserable than he already was, what with his younger sister being so disgruntled around him and with his parents' presences constantly reminding him of how much of a disgrace he was. "I'd give you a pity smile too if I had to stick around and hear those repulsive jokes all day. they're really not that good jun."

"as if you can tell a better one mister I've got a whole stick up my ass." jun's expression brightened when joshua advanced into the hospital room, stopping himself when he reached a chair right next to the bed. the brunette sat on the chair, causing for his purple haired counterpart to turn to face the chair on his immediate left. he continued on with the comedic mood brought about with his arrival to the once dreary room because jun had looked so upset before he walked in. there have been many instances where the purple haired patient had brought light to his days, joshua was sure he could do the same.

"I'll have you know I'm the funniest person I know." joshua spoke cockily, with smooth words of confidence that called attention from the chinese male. jun made eye contact with the brunette, showing that he was ready to hear the material that joshua had waiting for him to hear. it felt special for the older male to be so considerate to the point where he formed jokes designed to make jun laugh when he wasn't feeling his best. joshua was nothing like those in his past, he was different in the best way possible. "like did you know that a hug without u is just toxic."

"I'm sorry what?"

"it's a chemistry joke, because hug without u is hg and that's the element mercury which is very known to be very toxic to us human beings." joshua explained, his voice trailing off when jun displayed clear confusion towards the joke on his face. he found it to be quite funny and clever when reading it in a book somewhere, the brunette just loved hearing sophisticated jokes like this one. although jun didn't share the same love for them, at first he had thought it was a joke about how affectionate they had gotten with one another during their varying acts of skinship. he realized it was a joke as nerdy as joshua quickly though and that was funnier than the joke itself.

"you did not just make that joke, please tell me you didn't." jun groaned, shaking his head and laughing to himself while joshua offered him a sheepish smile. his embarrassment and the warmth in his cheeks remained as he laughed along with jun while claiming that his joke was just to clever for jun to comprehend which is when the purple haired male began to criticize joshua's joke. he didn't do it too harshly of course, but it was fun to pick out something to tease about the older mainly because the same thing had been done to him in the past as well. "joshua if my sick heart doesn't kill me that joke definitely will."

"okay now that wasn't funny at all." joshua scoffed, shaking his head at the way jun just lit up with laughter that filled the room. a nurse passing by stared at the two, for jun hadn't looked that happy since he'd arrive at the hospital almost two days ago. behind the male nurse followed jun's mother and sister who both looked startled by how happy jun looked. it was unlike him, especially since all he had done during the past few days was sulk in shame of his actions. despite being made at jun, jia tugged her mother's sleeve and the older woman nodded. both thought it was best to let the pair mingle with one another for now mainly because they didn't want to ruin jun's happiness.

"do you want to lay down next to me? that seat looks uncomfortable." jun noticed the way joshua awkwardly shifted in the chair next to his hospital bed when his laughter died down. the furniture at the hospital wasn't completely ideal for sitting on, jun knew that firsthand from how his sister always complained about it when she visited. the purple haired male grew timid by joshua's lack of an immediate response and looked down towards his hands. "and plus I could use a hug right now, you know like how we hugged at the concert. I kind of miss that feeling and I want to feel it especially since I feel like absolute crap right now and-"

"can you stop talking and just move over already?" joshua interrupted nonchalantly, bringing a small smile to jun's face as the chinese male moved aside to clear some space on his bed. the brunette laid himself gently on the bed, shifting slowly as to try to avoid hurting jun at all. he was far from hurting the purple haired patient though; by the way jun clung to him as he finally settled himself in a good laying position on the bed, it seemed more like the brunette's presence was curing him. joshua slung an arm around jun as the chinese male curled up into the high school senior's body. it felt so warm to be caressed in such a way that he felt safe and loved in the same exact hospital room that had drained him so much.

and then the purple haired patient looked up at joshua. he felt electric sparks fill the air in between them. his cheeks flushed, displaying a bright pink color on them that jun would excuse as his concussion acting up if joshua tried to ask about them and jun's stomach churned with nervousness. the brunette didn't notice how nervous the latter was being so close to him yet again, but instead just pulled him in closer so that jun was pressed up against his chest. the chinese male smiled to himself, pushing some of his blanket onto joshua so that the brunette wouldn't freeze, although he was sure that wasn't possible especially since they were generating a heat full of love and fiery passion amongst themselves.

for jun it felt a lot like the cold night they spent together on the field, the comfort joshua brought him was unimaginable and he was going to hold on to it as long as he could. the way the brunette held him and stroked his purple head of hair in the softest way possible effectively helped with getting him to perk up. joshua wouldn't think of him as a disappointment, jun felt like he actually understood him in that moment unlike the rest of his family who only looked at him as a case of recklessness and irresponsibility. joshua managed to figure out what he wanted and how he felt in less time than it had took for his own parents to crack the code behind his way of life.

and for joshua it was just another instance of him falling even harder for jun.
