29 || a visit to the wen household

it was an understatement to say that jun was incredibly excited for joshua and his study session at his house. it wasn't really a study session because joshua was only coming over so they could work on their photography project, but jun did like the ring to the words study session so he called it that. jia rolled her eyes at the way her older brother skipped around their house, even going as far as to dust the flowers in the vase on their dinner table to make their home presentable enough for joshua.

it was nice how far jun went to prepare for the brunette's arrival; she would have labelled jun's actions as cute if she wasn't currently shunning him for stealing and wearing her favorite sky blue hoodie (he was cold and loved her baggy clothing style, don't judge). it also was no surprise that jun ran to the door when the doorbell rang, their mother yelled at him to slow down from the kitchen but that did nothing to calm the excitement in jun's heart. it did raise his heart rate and make him more susceptible to having shortness of his breath given that he had hypertrophy cardiomyopathy, but that was besides the point.

"welcome to my humble home joshua! well it's not mine because my parents paid for it, but you get the idea right?" jun smiled in glee as joshua entered the wen household. he locked the door right and led the brunette to the couch where jia had spent the last hour sulking in the hopes that jun would notice and hand her sweater back. she stood up, shooting a very obvious glare at jun and waving at joshua before making her way upstairs so that she could sulk in her room instead. "we can sit on the couch if you want, it's very comfortable. I've sat on that couch practically my own life so I would know."

"I'll take you up on that offer." joshua nodded. jun's house had been exactly what he had predicted it to be when the idea of going over to the chinese male's house was first introduced to him. he figured that jun came from a bigger family than he had, which was proved when he caught sight of all the picture frames of family pictures on their living room walls, and that they were all friendly people like him. that last part would be proved when jun's mother walked into the living room to greet the brunette.

"oh mom, this is joshua! he's the one I told you about, we're working on our photography project today." the purple haired immediately introduced joshua to his mom even before he had a chance to sit; jun wanted to show off that joshua had come over to their house, he might as well have announced it to the entire household. the brunette smiled, wanting to make a good impression on the older woman who nodded. "if that's the case, why don't I make you guys something to eat? I've been working on cupcakes for jackson's bake sale, speaking of that boy can you please get him downstairs jun? he needs to contribute to the baking somehow."

"aye aye parental unit number one!" jun answered quickly, going as far as to salute his mother to show that he was more than happy to help out his mother by searching their home for his little brother. the youngest wen sibling, jackson, was around six years old and loved to hide in small spaces from responsibilities like helping his mom bake pastries for his first grade's bake sale fundraiser. luckily jun knew all about the small hiding spots in their house, he used to use them himself when he hid away for some alone time as a kid. he was very seasoned when it came to hunting his younger brother down too seeing as jun loved to spend time with his siblings. "I won't be too long and then we can work on the project in my room."

joshua was left alone in the living room at that point; jun went to look for his little brother upstairs after hearing the younger male scream in agony, most likely because jia had caught him hiding in her room, while his mother went to the kitchen to prepare some food for the pair of high schoolers. the brunette took this as an opportunity to check out the hanging picture frames to his right that were accompanied by a wide filing cabinet that had smaller frames sitting right on top of it.

"so the cookies aren't done, but I got you a glass of water if you don't mind." joshua's mother appeared with a medium sized glass and handed it to joshua with a warm smile. the friendly trait of the older woman reminded joshua of jun, except she was less annoying and way more motherly than he was. he bowed down gently when acccepting the glass from her and took a small sip before setting it down.

"thank you very much." joshua went right back to observing the images in the picture frames. the larger ones on the walls had more people in them and seemed to be professionally taken. there was one of all three wen siblings with their parents while another included the family of five and the rest of their extended family (jun had a lot of cousins from what the photo showed). the small frames on the filing cabinet were limited to just the three siblings; joshua spotted one of jia looking angrily at the camera before shifting over to the two frames with a younger looking jun smiling baskfully at the camera in contrast to his sister. "are those of jun?"

"yeah they are! he was a very cute kid. he definitely has his father's nose, although I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't tell jun's father when I say it looks so much more adorable on jun than it does on him." the older woman gave a small wink to joshua who laughed at her joke. they both silenced themselves when jia passed by to glance at them suspiciously. when she realized they were talking about jun, she deemed their conversation boring and went right to the kitchen to try to mooch off of some of her younger brother's baking materials to use for a youtube video she wanted to make (jia co-owned a channel with her best friends and they wanted to try their hand at a watch us fail at baking video). "I'll make sure to keep it between us then."

joshua scanned the other photo frames, smiling when he spotted another of all three wen siblings inside of a canoe, paddling lightly with big smiles. another picture next to it showed the canoe upside down with jun and his younger brother laughing with large smiles while jia being the more hot-tempered one of the three glared at them with fury in her eyes. at the end of the trail of frames on the filing cabinet sat one of jun giving a cute pout to the camera as he sat in a hospital bed. his mother seemed to notice joshua's curiosity without him even saying anything because she spoke up to explain the photo while he stared at it subconsciously.

"oh I forgot this one was here; jun always hated this picture, he said it reminds him of the hospital all the time. I've been meaning to take it down, but again he does look cute in it." she spoke lightly while trying to justify the taking of the photo herself. like all mothers would be, she was very proud of taking such a cute picture of her son while he protested against it. it was taken when jun begged her for something (she couldn't remember what it was) hence his pouting in the photo, and it was one of the cutest photos she had of jun that hadn't been thrown out yet. "jun's scared of the hospital? I didn't know about that."

"he's not scared of it, I think he just associates it with what happened to him as a child and he's just sick of being reminded of well, being sick." she looked to joshua and sighed. to her knowledge she hadn't really known of joshua for too long, but if jun felt comfortable inviting him over to the house she figured he must have been a close friend to jun. that was why she gave a further elaboration of jun's relationship with his disease. "jun always did hate being called the sick kid, he complained about how nobody wanted to be friends with him because he was 'contagious'. I thought it was silly of him to think that way, but he was serious about it as a child."

joshua nodded to show the older woman he was listening, even if he was confused by what she was saying. jun had a disease? it wasn't possible right? he hadn't noticed anything that would have indicated otherwise, other than how jun sat out of gym activities whenever they played particularly rigorous sports. joshua was going to ask more about what the older woman was going on about, but the loud voices of jun and his younger brother stopped him from doing so.

"alright we're here mom! jackson wouldn't move from jia's bed until I gave him a piggyback-" jun laughed while speaking. his brother was perched right on his back and the wiggling movements he was making only made jun laugh out loud because of how ticklish the older wen sibling was. the purple haired male stopped laughing though; his face dropped entirely when he saw joshua talking to his mother who had that dreadful picture of him in the hospital in her hands.

= = =
class is so boring so I might as well update to pass time right?

also the background information on jun and his siblings here is all fictional, making all that stuff up was actually really fun and I couldn't resist 👉👈
