28 || you can get a hug from me anytime

"junhui I thought we were heading to the library." joshua mumbled grumpily as he lightly resisted against the way jun grabbed his hand and pulled him down the streets, far past the library. the purple haired male clutched a large red blanket with his other hand which was paler than the one in joshua's hand due to its exposure to the cold winter air. jun paid no mind to joshua's resists to his hand holding, in fact he gripped the brunette's hand tighter with a small smirk as he responded. "well I lied."

"obviously I figured that by now, nobody carries around a blanket to the library." joshua sighed, giving up and letting jun lead them away. they were nowhere near the busy streets of their rural community or near the bustling shopping centers of the city, instead they were approaching a large empty field. it was much like somewhere where a murderer would lure their victim away and then do away with them, burying them in the outskirts of an abandoned field just like the one they were arriving. "are you going to tell me where we are going or am I going to have to start kicking and screaming?"

"you'll know when we get there!" jun laughed out loud before taking a sharp right into the field. it wasn't as empty as joshua thought; there was a small crowd of people sitting on blankets like the one jun had brought along with them and those people surrounded a small stage where a band was setting up their equipment. joshua watched as they were both led right to the stage, where a familiar face stood while supervising everything going on with the band.

"hey seungcheol!" jun spoke gleefully as he motioned to seungcheol to walk over. the young adult did just that, dropping off his responsibilities of supervising the band for a minute to greet his friend. seungcheol was the leader of said band and they were just about ready anyways when seunghcheol informed them that he would be greeting jun. the band scoffed at him, pretending as if they hadn't needed his help to begin with and the brunette laughed in response, chuckling as he stopped in front of the pair.

"hey junnie! oh I see you brought joshua around this time. it is very nice to see you two together again." seungcheol gestured down to their joined hands in a sly manner. jun smiled proudly, very happy to show off that he was holding joshua's hand while the brunette acted as if he hadn't noticed he was holding the chinese student's hand at all. one of the band members joined the trio, whispering something to seungcheol before the brunette nodded and turned his attention back to the pair, nodding. "yup! I just figured the more the merrier right? knock them dead seungcheol! I know you all got this!"

"what's happening?" joshua asked after seungcheol left and after the two of them settled on to a spot on the field, in the middle of the crowd, that jun had selected for them to sit down together. the purple haired male spread the red blanket out and they sat on it mutually. "seungcheol's band is holding a small concert for the community. they love doing this to test out their songs and make sure that they're smash hits, although anything those guys come up with is absolutely genius."

jun loved to listen to their band whenever they held free concerts like this one, whether it be alone or with company. last time he did have company was when he coped wonwoo and mingyu into going with him. it wasn't completely enjoyable seeing as he acted as a third wheel the entire time but it was much better than being alone. now though jun had joshua and he thought of being with joshua as ten times better than being a third wheel to his two best friends. it was joshua after all, and jun had to admit he did take a bit of a liking to the grumpy brunette.

"you could have just asked me to join you instead of basically kidnapping me." joshua grumbled, brushing his hands together in the absence of jun's hand in his. honestly he wouldn't have minded if jun asked him kindly to accompany him, maybe he would have played a little hard to get but he knew he would have given in to jun. it happened every time jun tried to bring him along on some weird adventure, joshua was beginning to see a pattern with him giving in to jun.

"I highly doubt you would have agreed without bribery and plus I would lose the element of surprise if I did that instead." jun spoke wisely while keeping the cheeky expression on his face. it was comedic how jun could switch off his moods and tones so easily, it was like he was an actor in his past life. jun must have sensed what joshua was thinking about because he grinned from ear to ear and exclaimed words of glee in a loud volume towards joshua. "surprise joshua!"

"you do have a point, I was going to stay inside and study all night. I guess letting go and having a bit of fun instead isn't the worst idea in the world. you have had a lot of worse ideas after all."

"that's the spirit!" jun spoke enthusiatically, emphasizing how happy he was to have had joshua respond positively to him. maybe it did mean joshua wanted to spend time with him, that maybe joshua felt the same way jun felt about him. although jun could have been looking too far into things, maybe focusing on the present was more beneficial and right now joshua still looked a bit unsure about how he felt with skipping out on his aggressive studying schedule. "and you don't have to worry about our project, we can just work on it at my house tomorrow."

"alright jun, if you say so." and with that all of joshua's worries were pushed away and shoved into a box in the back of his head. he was here to enjoy the night, to enjoy it with jun. right on cue the band shouted their greetings to the crowd and then kicked off this meaningful night by starting off with an upbeat song. the drummer's energetic beat was really addicting, it was actually doing its part in distracting joshua from his worries.

"oh it's starting! oh my gosh I love this song!!" jun exclaimed loudly, making joshua jump slightly in his spot on the blanket. the purple haired male was also a big distraction from it all. the band rushed off into their song, letting the melody of their tune bounce off into the small crowd of their friends and family watching. the music rang out, filling the small field of grass with the warmth of their song and at the same time attracting bystanders to sit and join their audience. joshua was memorized by the band's upbeat song, keeping his eyes glued to the stage as he watched the band enjoy themselves to the fullest. next to him the purple haired senior bounced along to the rhythm of the song, even singing along (although it was mostly mumbling because jun had no idea what the words were even after listening to the band for so long).

after an hour or so the pace and mood of the mini concert slowed down. the audience followed suit, going along with the sentimental feelings brought on by the melancholic song now being played by the band. joshua glanced at jun from the corner of his eyes and noticed that the chinese male had stopped bouncing around as well. he bent his knees and watched the stage with a sad gleam to his eyes most likely because he found himself relating to the sad lyrics of the song, especially the parts that tackled dealing with loneliness.

seeing jun being so serious and holding such a sorrowful expression on his face didn't sit well with joshua at all. the brunette hadn't even thought jun was capable of expressing those feelings, but one look at the latter washed all his prejudices away. the last time jun had this much rawness to him was when they were in the cafe together and that led to the two spending the night being comedic with one another. however, joshua felt that this time he had an obligation to try to comfort jun in some way that didn't involve him laughing along to some poorly conceived joke.

jun flinched, furrowing his eyebrows at joshua while the older senior nonchalantly slung his arm over his shoulders. it was really unexpected since joshua wasn't one to really ever initiate skinship between them (or because there never really was any between them until recently), but jun didn't mind it at all. in fact he leaned into the touch, letting his head fall towards joshua's chest as they both melted into the downhearted atmosphere surrounding them.

the chinese male jumped again when joshua abruptly stood up to sit behind him so that jun was now settled in the space between his legs that were widely spread out across the red blanket. couples around them cooed at the sight of joshua wrapping both his arms around of jun protectively while leaning his own head on jun's shoulders. something about joshua doing so made jun feel tiny as he leaned back into the embrace, letting feelings of love engulf him as his cheeks flourished in a light pink tint. and joshua who hadn't necessarily known why at all he was doing this just went with the flow because it felt right.

the warmth of joshua's chest against his back made the previously gloomy jun smile softly to himself knowing that he wasn't alone for once and that for once he was being seen. jun felt a little less overwhelmed by life in that moment, as if for this one night joshua was his escape from the walls that were constantly trying to close in on him. the only problem jun had was that every night wasn't like this one.

just thought it'd be cool to mention this chapter name was greatly inspired by hug. i swear it's one of the most touching vocal unit songs out there.
